I really liked Arya and her role in the show was pretty good, with the adaptation to being Tywin's servant being understandable since you can't cram in as many characters if you want people to remember them. Then the part with Sandor was pretty good too.
But then she got to fucking Braavos, and I swear to god she has done nothing since. Her character doesn't change in the slightest and all she learns is trivial bullshit she'll never be able to use.
With Sandor, Syrio and when she was on her own she at least struggled to learn how to get by and was disciplined to fight. The Faceless Men did none of this except for honing her natural talent for fighting with a blunt weapon while blind. Fucking hooray.
Honestly I just hope she's dead even though I know she isn't.

You could start as a slave or a street urchin in some Free City or Slaver's Bay and start an adventure by joining a sellsword company and exploring these exotic and violent cultures.
You could fight in wars, explore the Summer and Jade Seas, ride with the Dothraki, join factions, explore the far eastern lands of Yi Ti and the Shadowlands, make a fortune, hire Unsullied, buy slaves or free them, meet warlocks, learn about blood magic, all of it.
Endless possibilities. It would be the perfect setting for a CD Projekt Red or Bethesda-tier game.

No, I am fascinated by it. The thing is, the "medieval European" setting has been used in nearly every single fantasy world in all types of mediums for decades. Lord of the Rings, Westeros, Dragon Age, Dungeons and Dragons, World of Warcraft, Elder Scrolls, and those are just some of the bigger titles. The whole list is countless.
Whereas a cultural mixup like Essos that takes elements from mythology and ancient east and the orient are rare in fantasy settings, and they become really interesting if done well. Something exotic, brutal, savage, barbaric, totally alien in culture. Something you're not used to. And Essos has like 20 different cultures, all pretty interesting to explore, while Westeros has like 4.

it's much harder to depict any other ancient culture, because there simply isn't as much written or depicted accounts of how life was there, or what hapenned.
it comes to the point where the best accounts we do have are from european merchants and travellers (which can't be given much credit)

All throughout the chase I was not impressed. The Faceless men do not chase people through the streets, none of this Assassin's Creed bullshit, in the book they more or less say exactly this, they're not Bravosi, they're subtle cold assassins. For the record, the setting didn't make Morrowind good; what made it good was the writing (in terms of characters and quests) and the game mechanics. A setting is mostly just window dressing.
For example, people like Westoros as opposed to Essos because of the history and characters that are depicted there. Essos is exotic, but I care much less about it because the history for it is not nearly so well filled in, nor are the characters, nor the families and politics.
Oblivion wasn't bad for the setting; it was bad for the lousy game mechanics, quest arrows, and bland writing.

I agree that in terms of its mechanics, it was shitty. Choices felt like they mattered even less than they did in The Walking Dead. No choices matter in the end, but the Walking Dead made it FEEL like they did.
Game of Thrones nullified the choices you made way too quickly. I also think it was a mistake to do a series that would have more than 1 season. It should have just had one season and the ending would depend on what choices you made; how many allies you got for Ironrath.
However, none of that means the characters were bad.

Then look at something like Until Dawn, where most of the characters and most of the story was cliche and uninspired, but the presentation was enough to make people work through it, and that game was also well reviewed. Not s telltale game, but it's the same genre.

I never said the game was good. I even agreed that it handled choices poorly. The only thing I've defended is the accusation that all the characters are just Stark clones.
It's been demonstrated that they are not, but to avoid admitting you were wrong about this ultimately trivial thing you have instead tried to shift the discussion entirely.
I think the game got flack because the choices you made never had any pay-off and it felt like they had no influence on the plot. Choices were nullified way too quickly and it made it feel cheap.
That's just my opinion. I don't know what critics said.
