Jaime is the same person he's always been. An asshole. He just cares about Brienne now too instead of only Cersei, which tricks people into thinking he's a good guy when really, he's still a jerk.
Jumping into the bear pit was a "the things I do for love" moment. He didn't save her because he's a good guy, he saved her because he loves her.
The difference is Brienne is a good influence and Cersei is a bad one, so his character changes depending on who he's with.
The ONLY reason he hates Cersei in the books is because she was unfaithful to him, not because he had any kind of revelation about her not being a good person.
On the show, if Cersei had been there instead of Brienne, he wouldn't have cared about avoiding bloodshed.

There are flashbacks in nearly every chapter mate. Some of the more iconic ones are the ones of Casterly Rock that Jaime and Tyrion often have. They're not very long, mind you, sometimes just a small paragraph of memory, though sometimes they can be long. Aeron has a flashback of the Kingsmoot just in the last Winds of Winter chapter we've recieved

The issue is that this is a narrative with a lot of compelling side characters that are masquerading as "important", /got/ gets tricked into thinking they have prospects when they don't. The truth is they're not gonna make it to the end of the story.
This wouldn't be a problem but /got/ needs a "guy" to latch on to, someone who is going to actually endure until the end, who is going to BTFO both Dany (the normies favourite character) and Tyrion (reddit's favourite character). Jonbros have embraced the fact that when the night is darkest, we need to turn to him. We have to appreciate an endgame character who still has moments that are "based", unlike Tyrion and Dany who produce nothing but cringe. Based Stannis chose Jon because he saw something in him, and now the people of /got/ that are honest with themselves have seen it as well.

So basically if Arya indeed still lives then most of the story of the training she got from the faceless men was pretty pointless. There's other ways to show that she got trained as an assassin and she still values her identity. And the last scene where the guy says "now a girl is truly no one" makes no sense either.
Or Arya did get killed and she was the project of the many faced god to have access to someone from a prominent house, and the assassin girl was told she was "truly no one" because she fulfilled her mission and cut off her own face to replace with Arya's and take over Arya's identity for a long time to come. Maybe she deliberately injured arya so she would flee to her stash of personal stuff which she needed to fill out the identity which she had already learned from Arya during the training.
Knowing the people that make the show, probably the first option.

Brienne is better in the book IMO were she is just a big poor wretch who got cursed to look like a big mannish ugly freak woman to the point that if she had tried being a lady she would have been fucking miserable so she opted to try and be a Knight instead (especially because her marriage arrangements always failed) and finds that she is also miserable but at least this way she has some agency and purpose.
In the show they made her into this grrrrl power figure to the point of annoying when in fact in the book she was always kind to people even Podrick when they met, she was mostly concerned about teaching him to survive instead of trying to get rid of him.
She also kind of moves away from Rently and avenging him because she is a good person in her heart and also very young and naive (she is like 18 or 19 in the book) and all the characters are surprised at how she is so willing to believe how there is good in everyone or in things like Knights always being virtous and proper, and how she is willing to die protecting the person she serves and the innocent (and honestly in the world of ASOIAF she shouldn't have lasted long but there she is).
Yet despite being a Knight she also yearns for feminity and to be seen as a lady but feels that that's never going to happen, especially since no dress or female clothes fits her or looks proper on her and she has such shit esteem and has been bullied all her life that when a man does show sincere interest she thinks they are mocking her.
Show Brienne is a bit of a tryhard bitch who hates girly things because she wants to be a knight and her daddy supported her decision (when in the book he hated it).
