Yeah. The producer was making it sound like they needed the Kickstarter funds to be on the Tony's--but the performance was locked in weeks ago. The producer just wants to get his money back, since it costs hundreds of thousands to perform on the show.
>>70769370
Because I have patrician tastes, I appreciate technical excellence in performance. I also enjoy opera immensely. But Broadway gets new and experimental works that push creative boundaries.
I also love classic literature, and all the ancient Greeks and Romans were faggots. And niggers are fucking fantastic at singing and dancing.

My first musical should be about the life of the Estefan's? I'm skeptical

I honestly think Les Miserables and Jesus Christ Superstar are the most perfect musicals in terms of well-roundedness. They're great but not the greatest musicals but they're high-tier. You want to get into the GOAT Sondheim afterwards, stay away from Andrew Lloyd Webber, he's a hack.
Speaking of The Crucible, you should check out the one available on Digital Theatre if you haven't already.

No. Les Miserables is bad for a first timer because they stick with the full-singing, even when it would make more sense to use dialogue. So someone new to musicals might think all shows are like that and be put off.

Generally, before a show is staged in full they workshop it. The actors who do the workshop are meant to get a share of the royalties. But the Hamilton producers basically found a loophole and screwed the cast out of these royalties.
Odom was basically the only member of the cast who said anything public about how wrong it was. Since he did that he's basically been downplayed in marketing, public events, etc.
>>70771576
Yeah probably, at the very least it will spawn poor imitations.

They're not "meant" to, it is just sometimes included in contracts. The Hamilton workshop actors couldn't reach an agreement, but agreed to a contract that allowed them first refusal of roles, but not royalties.
>>70771753
Yeah - it's especially galling as Lin's dad gets a percentage of the profits but the cast were going to get nothing (the producers caved once they started getting the bad press)

>>70771995
How recent is what?
>>70771852
I acknowledge the actors were stupid, they agreed to a non-Equity "lab" rather than a "workshop" - workshops always fall under Equity rules that gives the royalties, under the system that came about after A Chorus Line. So literally all the producers did was to avoid calling it a workshop. It's the gray area over how forthright they were over not sharing royalties that ended up with them having to fork them over to the cast.

How recent is this?

Yeah we needed some Trump jokes...
>>70772027
So the producers weren't just being fabulously progressive?
This is supposed to end in 12 minutes. How many awards left? Three?
is that really trump?
>>70771961
Straight female here. We love our theater just as much as the gays.
Trumpolice will be formed and you know it.
Jesus, they still haven't put Chicago out of its misery?
>>70772121
yes
>>70772121
yeah. you didn't know he's a tony winner?
>>70771979
It's not greedy though, as they earn it as they help develop the show. As in they create lines, or movements, etc that then become part of the intellectual property of the show. Since they created a part of the show that will then be used on and on, they deserve to share in the money that makes.
And to be clear, we're talking about one percent of the gross, shared amongst all the workshop actors. That's what the producers were fighting against paying.
>>70772039
How do you mean? The workshop royalties have been since A Chorus Line when Michael Bennet paid out of his share to the actors whose stories made up the show.
This whole dispute with Hamilton was about 5 months-ish ago, resolved in April.

He's always there.

Tumblr won't be happy that SA didn't win. Especially after they paid for them to do their performance tonight, hahaha
>Getting Oprah to come to the Tonys and not giving her show an award.
This was an easy call.
Cynthia should still win on her own though. Fingers crossed.
>>70772287
tumblr doesn't care about disability
>>70772162

For once I'm not doubting that a straight girl is on 4chan
>>70772319
But they do love their gay boys and that cast was packed with them. It was their new Newsies.
Nooo don't remind me of my own mortality, Tony Awards
And now, the yearly ghost summoning ritual to appease wrestless spirits.
This is why you have a singer, you don't get smatterings of applause
Aw I forgot about Kyle-Jean Baptiste.
Who do y'all wish had died?
>>70772284
My bad bruh. "Cis female here. We enjoy theater just as much as all the other groups of equally important people such as homosexuals, transgender individuals, genderqueer individuals, atheists, and furries."
Feel better?
>David Bowie
Still too soon.
This entire show would've been much improved with a Dames at Sea performance. It should've at least been nominated for Revival.
>David Bowie

Yes, because Leslie Odom, Jr. is a better actor.
>>70772477
I would call it Moot: the musical, it would be like Hamilton, with Hiro being Burr

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Homie can talk shit all he wants now with a Tony on his mantle. He deserved it and I'm proud.
>hamilton fires blanks
THANK FUCKING GOD!!!!
>>70772696
Perfect. Would Michael Cera play moot?
Was there any doubt that the color purple would win?
Is this the only nomination Hamilton hasn't won so far?
Anyone noticed that Lin's face onstage whenever he isn't singing is really stupid? Like his "I have emotions" face looks really stupid. Watch any of the clips of the show when he isn't singing and his face looks highschooler-tier whenever he's silent.

Called it. Cynthia for the win.
The best actor in Hamilton should be Hamilton, yes? Will they switch roles now?

He's always "on" which I find to be the most annoying thing about him, nothing about him ever seems natural. Which is also why he didn't deserve to win Best Actor

Lin's nice but when he isn't rap-singing he just stands there looking goofy and confused. Plus I feel like he can't sing and move at the same time?

And if the gossip is true, Liza was campaigning against him because he told a story about how she was high when he met her. So he really beat the odds.
>>70773277
Lin is doing it in London in 2017. It's all set.
>>70773221
The oscars are just for movies that show within a certain timeframe in one of like, 10 movie theaters in LA
the only reason the tonys seem narrow is that it's relatively difficult to reproduce theater on a large scale

No sooner or later, if you're not an attention whore they you become an actor. Otherwise there's no reason for you to deal with the crap that comes with theatre.
>>70773455
They're archived at the Performing Arts Library in NY, but you have to have a valid academic reason to be able to watch them, such as being an actor studying a role, etc.
