How long have you been on /who/? I think I came here between series 5 and 6, I have very distinct memories of coming here right after the "tick tock goes the clock" nursery rhyme to check exactly what the words were because my dad asked me

I came here between Nightmare in Silver and Name of the Doctor. At the time there were various reports that some fans got their season 7 dvds with the unaired season finale earlier than expected and I figured if there was one place to get leaks from it would be 4chan.

needless to say I was heavily disapponited

It's interesting how Cornell dosn't like goig outside the era's "limitations" as it were. Perhaps it's because I came from NuWho and encountered the classic Docs through the novels first, but I've never thought one should be restricted by the era.

I'm a newbie by other anon standards. Came on 4chan during series 8 looking for spoilers as to the identity of Missy (altho I'd suspected she was a female Master, and looking back it seems so obvious now).
>>
>>70571756
Darnit gif doesn't work.
>>
>>70571756
Yeah I thought Missy being the Master was pretty much a given lmao. The big surprise reveal in Death In Heaven was more for the Doctor than the audience, I felt. And casuals I suppose.
>>
>>70571756
>>70572265
Yeah, we all hoped she was someone else but deep down we all knew it would be the Master.
>>
>>70572312
I didn't really know what to think and didn't care much.
>>
>>70572265
>Missy being the Master was pretty much a >given lmao

Hold up. That's some serious revisionism--you know how many people thought she was the Rani? Maybe you thought she was the Master, but not everyone did.
>>
>>70572368
I'm not the anon you're replying to but Missy being the Master is what most of the fans I interact with were expecting.
>>
>>70572368
Nobody knows who the Rani is man she's never coming back
>>
>>70572368
>you know how many people thought she was the Rani?
They were meming. Like I said, we all wanted it to not be the most predictable option so we would throw around every female Time Lord ever in the show as possibilities. But Moffat is a hack (not that the Rani would have actually been a good idea) so we got the Master.
>>
>>70572265
I liked how they did a red herring at the start of the finale, casually introducing Missy as just an android who worked for the death-institute. The actual master-introduction later caught me quite by surprise.
>>
She's not the Master. The real Master will be revealed in Moffat's final series. Watch it happen.

Some time between series 5 and 6. Tripfaggotry is actually a lot better now than it was back then, although there was a terrible bout of it recently. I was actually one of the worst trips and I would intentionally rile people up with random off topic bullshit, but I've grown up since then.

There was a lot of rumours and discussion about the show, the S6 arc, River's identity, even Rory's identity with the "Rory is the Rani" meme.

Pehaps my favourite /who/ meme of all was the one about Paul McGann being depressed he was never canon and never asked back for the show, and making his own 50th minisode in his basement before becoming suicidal with his catchphrase "why live".

This image was, at the time and in context, the single funniest thing I have ever seen on 4chan

There were semi-regular streams of classic serials that I'd watch and fall asleep to after I came home from school. I miss those. They were incredibly comfy.

"In Campbell's film, a writer, a producer and a director are hired by seedy erotic film producer Benny U. Murdoch (Roy Kinnear) to make a dirty movie based on the poem. However they run into difficulty when each of the production's backers want a completely different style of film made. All Moffat era characters gather in a circle around 12 who is lying dying on the floor. They all hold hands and perform a rendition of The Long Song which gradually becomes more and more jazzy as 12 begins to regenerate.
As the regeneration energy rises, the characters stop holding hands, and raise their hands in the air.

Funny post anon. But Beast Below was lame.
>>
I just found this in a youtube comment section:

The Ninth Doctor was very vengeful. The Tenth Doctor was very vane. The Eleventh doctor was very impatient. There ending's signify them overcoming their personality flaws. The Ninth Doctor refusing to kill as his final act, The Tenth sacrificing himself to save an old friend, and The Eleventh spending several centuries protecting a peaceful farming town.

Following this pattern what flaw do you guys think the 12th will overcome? Will it be his compassion like Darvos said?
>>

>>70576056
Oh I completely forgot about that. But he'd have to kill it because it's dangerous not to put it out of its misery.
>>
>>70576067

No, I think Darvos was wrang. I think what will overcome him will be finally developing a consistent characterization. He'll do it, then go 'ooh!', clutch himself, and expire.
>>
>>70576067
Yes. He'll kill the last member of some alien race, refusing compassion.

Davros might be right about compassion being the death of him but by the show's ethics it's not actually a flaw to be overcome. If anything, death by compassion would be fully overcoming the callousness that characterized his Doctor early on.
>>
>>70576406
Nah, it shouldn't be Rassilon. I'd rather it be a random villain of the week, who is an utter scumbag. Someone no one would miss. Someone who the world might be better off without.

But the Twelfth Doctor saves him anyway. Because that's what the Doctor does. It would serve as a deeper contrast to Eleven (remember Solomon from Dinosaurs on a Spsaceship? Neither does Eleven.).

RTD's original idea for Ten's finale was him just protecting a random family. I want something like that.

You aren't the Doctor though.
>>
>The Doctor is dying. He has only one functioning heart left and the second one has 42 minutes left to beat. What does he do? What does the Doctor do when he thinks his time has come? And can Bill save him?

Wouldn't that be a GOAT episode? No trick like "I know I'm not gonna die". This time he has an entire episode to be sure he's dying and has no way out (he has but he doesn't know).

Time of the Doctor? Yeah, but in 42 real minutes not some 900 years bullshit. What does the Doctor do with his final hour? That'd make a great finale.

Only if it was the last episode ever. They'll never do a conclusive, final, reboot-requiring last episode of Doctor Who.

Well, no. Because he would have hallucinations of Missy torturing him "Oh how you're going down in the first round, I expected bztter from a Scotman, I can't help you that'd be cheating" as his hearts pain him. This isn't your usual "Oh he's gonna be fine for 42 minutes and then die out of nowhere", no he's dying throughout the entire episode, minute by minute.

>>70577166
That's just because that's the length of a normal episode. 60 minutes would be better for a finale.

This. The whole "the doctor is about to die!" thing has been done to death in the show, I almost cringed on s9 e1 when we learned that the doctor was "going to die :,(((((((((" again
>>
>>70577404
But this wouldn't be about him finding a way to get out of it, it's be about learning what 12 would do if he died in 60 minutes, not in 1200 years.
>>
>>70577389

So about 39 minutes of Capaldi helpless and gurning like Pertwee while Pearl Mackie is our protagonist?
>>
>>70577474
Something like that, with 12 going around doing what he wants to do just before dying and being tortured by a hallucination of Missy, while Bill is going around the universe with the TARDIS to try and find a way to save him. In the final moments, she saves him but they look up and see in the sky: Gallifrey is back.

To be continued on Christmas day.

She's a girl who was stolen from her mother, and raised by a sociopath. At about the age of 4, she's placed into a painful suit that controls her actions, and eventully is killed by the suit.

Then she dies. And comes back to life. From there, she becomes friends with two other people, all the while planning to use them to kill a man she's never met. She's bee n trained since youth to be a killer, and that's what she's gonna do.

Then she finds the man, and kills him. Well, tries to. She utterly fails, but at least she meets her mother and father. Plus, she learns that the man she's been taught is a monster is actually a good man.

For years, she in jail for a crime that she was told was the only thing she could do, what she was supposed to do. True, she has bunches of fun during that imprisonment. .

>"Ah bloo bloo bloo The Doctah doesn't love me!"

It's a little more complex than that. Her problem is more that the Doctor can't love her the way she loves him. There's a difference between "he can't love me"--at least there's a way too change his mind. But her problem isd that she thinks he can't love her, tha he will never love her in the same way she loves him, that he is incapable of loving in the same way that a star can't love--he can only be witnessed upon, and if you tried to get too close, the Doctor would just sweep you asway in just being him. But she stil loves him anyway, and she wishes she could love anyone else.

This is all in the episode, said almost verbatim by River.

(Funny thing is, I think River is sometimes too memey. So this isn't from a "Riverfag", just watching the ep.)

>>

> The things that happen in the show/universe have a direct effect on a person's character, much like the things that happen in life change who you are

No, you're reading those effects in because you'd expect them to be there. In fact, they aren't, which is why River is a shallow character.
>>
>>70580707
It's really not that hard, especially in Doctor Who where no one expects a full on character study. Just some level of complexity, a character that has more than 2 dimensions to their personality, and reacts believably to whatever they experience in their story. River is one of the most shallow characters in the modern show. She can't simply show emotion or motivation, she always has to tell it straightforwardly so you understand she's not stronk female River right now, she's sad River.

>>70581239
She has all this 'muh tragic backstory' for sympathy points yet her big tragedy is supposed to be that the Doctor loves her like she loves him? That's ridiculous. She's never given a shit about her terrible life for some reason, just that the guy she was brainwashed to obsess over and kill doesn't buy her flowers & candy.

We're also constantly told she knows the Doctor so well, that she can run circles around him and he's so predictable to her, all this lip service, yet she clearly doesn't have a clue about him. That speech in THORS only made this worse. All the time she's known him, all the shit in her diary when he was, yet in her episode with 12 she is still has no idea what he's like. Because the plot needed some melodrama and they've run out of ideas with River. He's had companions who understand him better than she does.
>>
>>70581370
It was my first too.
I feel it's a tad overrated, but very good nonetheless.
>>
>>70581239
that's bullshit this and he should know better by now

he can't settle down in a domestic/human way but he obviously is capable of love and everyone he cares about knows this

it also shouldn't be an issue with river since she doesn't even live a normal life and is supposed to be so much like him

she's a pseudo time lord who supposedly loves living for the adventures and danger just like he does but instead she acts like a more shallow teenager than even rose tyler did despite being 200 fucking years old and having so many romances besides the doctor by the time we see her in husbands of river song
>>
>>70582656
*she should know better

If River knew Capaldi's Doctor for 24 years why did she say 'the Doctor can never go to Trenzalore' when she knew he does go and that he survives it?

When Smith's Doctor really thought he was going to die on Trenzalore why didn't he give River the sonic screwdriver she would need to have on her for him to save her in the Library?

Moffat retconed a minisode where 11 gave her the screwdriver and it was supposed to be his last episode

"Wedding of River Song" is one of the last times she met the Doctor. Before, she thought 11 dies at Trenzalore.

He never left Trenzalore by that point, so he never got the chance.

I think her issues aren't necessarily "shallow teenager", but I admit that YMMV on that.

On top of this, Matt didn't see River again after Angels. Remember that she was a ghost in Name; it was a little late by then. He wasn't convinced about his death on Trenzaore until he actually went there.

No, THoRS is the last time she sees the Doctor before she dies in the Library. 12 comes after 11 and obviously survived Trenzalore. He had 24 years to mention this although she already knows he comes after 11 in THoRS. Also the official timeline says Wedding of River Song is one of the earliest she meets h again after they leave her in the hospital at the end of Let's Kill Hitler.

>He never left Trenzalore by that point, so he never got the chance.
he got his TARDIS back at a point. It's a Time machine. He could have done something as important as giving her the tool he needs to save her and come back before he even left.

Sorry, I meant "Husbands of River Song".

Like this anon says >>70583323 , by the time he went on Trenzalore, he wasn't gonna leave, if it meant risking the planet.

But River is a data ghost in Name of the Doctor when she says he can never go to Ttenzalore. She has met 12 before she died obviously. For her it:s after THoRS. So she is supposed to know he survives Trenzalore and gets a new cycle of regenerations.

But he does leave to take Clara home to safety. He could have gone to take River her screwdriver too and gotten back before any trouble happened without out him. It travels in time.

...Good point.

In that case, maybe she didn't warn him about 12, to keep the timeline straight. 12 probably told her what to say.

Or Moffat just forgot the details and screwed it up.
