When I first read ASOS, I thought for sure Coldhands was Benjen, but Bran doesn't recognize him and Leaf mentions that he's really fucking old. Leaf, being one of the Children of the Forest, is like thousands of years old, so when she makes a remark on the age of this dude I started doubting the Benjen theory straight away.
It's also worthy to note that Coldhands first appears around the same time Sam kills the white walker in the books, so the combinations of Coldhands and Benjen makes perfect sense for the show because he showed up so late.
