I was at the filming for this, didn't want to give spoilers away so all my previous comments have been about logistics.
Will add little titbits as they come.
-The catering line was planted, the person who shouted that out wasn't a member of the audience but a production member.
-This "we got custody scene" was repeated about ten times because the jokes kept falling flat. And only filmed with Chris Evans......this scene was refilmed at the second episode!
-The Matt LeBlanc introduction to the USA vs UK challenged has also been refilmed at a later date, on our day he filmed it only twice but both times walking along the balcony. I am guessing that the producers weren't happy with the filming we did on the first day, and refilmed certain parts the next week alongside filming the second episode.
-Gordon didn't actually remember the correct name for his Ferrari, so he had to be corrected.
-They've cut out a lot of Jesse's interview, they talked a bit about Batman vs Superman and the level of applause from us in the audience barely registered on the British politeness scale. I was rolling my eyes a lot when Jesse was talking about what a hero Woody Allen is.

Top Gear used to be some literal who car autist shit, so it had time to develop chemistry between the presenters and that's what made it successful.
It's now so high profile that they'll never get that luxury again. This had to succeed right from episode 1, which is why they went all out with repeating gimmicks from the old show to hook people. But it failed, and next episode's ratings will be a fraction of this week because nobody will be watching for morbid curiosity again.

Nothing feels right and the entire episode felt like it was a re-shoot, like they filmed the episode once, didn't like it, and then re-shot it all over again. Leblanc phones it in while in the studio and Evans is unbearable in a car. The challenges are boring and have no substance, comedy or stakes and all the non-presenters they bring on the show seem to be reading from scripts, it's really jarring when Leblanc talks to someone and they answer back like a machine because they're not an actor.

With the last couple of seasons of Top Gear, it was starting to feel increasingly scripted and forced in many segments, but the presenters were usually enough to make it fun. All they've done now is try to duplicate a show that was already in a decline, in a way that just makes the reason for the decline worse.
Hopefully Grand tour will take the opportunity to redevelop the show a bit rather than sticking to the old format so closely.
