Season 6 isn't even bad. At least its kinda artsy and conversations are good, also some other things that they explore, such as huge character development (if not development, then at least changing) with confident Sansa, darker brutish Jon and a different Dany. Dany in that last episode finally seemed like 'this is it, fuck it, I am the one' and wasn't annoying girl. I hope she matures somewhat.
Worst parts are definitely related to sudden deaths of high lords by their kinsman (Doran, Roose, Balon). Seemingly nothing happened, but over the long run, any TV show is grateful for the chill, almost filler-like episodes full of conversations and places explored.

How is it not? Visions of medieval armies being drafted peasants with sharpened sticks is a 19th century Victorian stereotype. Even with armies made with general call up of men (which were an early medieval practice) you'd at the very least have spear and shield.
