I....what.....I'm....I can't even....I'm having trouble grasping at words here at what I just saw. I've been stabbed in the heart, and I'm trying to get it out and stop the bleeding. It is still so damn painful. But nothing compared to what infests my mind. Well done GRRM.
What a viscerally powerful moment in A Song of Ice and Fire, and the first time I'm really glad that the show is ahead of the books because this absolute tragedy to me wouldn't nearly have been as effective on my mind in words, as it is being shown or being sung to me on film. GRRM has a mastery of English language to put you in the right frame of mind, but just seeing the visuals, the music, the beats, the tones, the faces....
I mean...wow. This made me ill. Worse than Red Wedding. Worse than Ned's death. Damn.
I mean is that even a heroic death? Hodor never grew up! His entire life was stolen from him and made to serve another, your mind not only mangled by the experience, but forever tainted by another human being taking control over your body. And to be sacrificed like that?!? Is that heroic or tragic? Is that a saviour or a victim? Was this a mind-rape? I heard Hodor meant 'Hold the Door' so long ago and thought some theory like a siege and getting hit on the head, or maybe Bran warging and messing him up or some other tinfoils, but as soon as I heard "Hold the Door".....what a beautifully tragic way to tie it all together. I have no words GRRM. I have no words D&D. You've nailed it.
This episode is a 9.5/10 for me and one of the best of the series thus far. I thought this would be a good episode since there were some leaked pictures of the Children of the Forest, but it is like this episode took a crowbar and broke open Pandora's Box. Sooo many great things going on, advancing the plot and creating even more exciting things. Furthering so many theories and giving credence to so many others. I have very few to no gripes with this episode.

Wow the writing in season 6 so far has been awful. I tried to curve my cynicism after the dany asspul with the torches but episode 5 was a pile of hot trash. Theres no way that the white walker reveal will go down like that in the books. The HBO writers are taking a huge dump all over GRRM's vision and trying to pump out episodes to satisfy the plens.

Kingsmoot is great, Theon is great, Euron is good though I wish there was an eye patch and Dragon Binder. Kinda funny Euron deforests the land for a fleet when the CotF just talked about how Man destroyed their weirwoods. CotF created the Others!? Varys actually scared is unsettling. Littlefinger's a weasel and I'm still slightly upset over how LF 'underestimated' Ramsay, but the story still seems to work and Sansa is acting correctly IMO. Not sure where LF's plot is going. We get to see Blackfish again, so I'm hoping he isn't screwed over by the plot as the legendary military commander Stannis Baratheon and his arch-rival House Twenty Goodmen. Sansa's and Jon's dynamic was too good. Poor Edd. I think he's a dead man because the Wall is going to fall this season. Good luck JBear, there should actually be a cure out there for you. I wish there was more of Meera, she's now the third person to kill an Other. Arya scenes were pretty good, more about the Faceless Men, the play was a nice little retrospect on things of the past.
The beats were on point. The music was great. The character moments were spectacular. The dynamics were exceptional. The episode even had time for jokes! Brienne and Tormund are just way too hilarious and the joke is so well timed in this episode. Looks like Brienne is heading to Riverrun to meet with Jaimie and she chastises Sansa for lying to Jon and talking about how Davos and Mel have jumped shipped, all the while omitting that it was Jaimie Lannister who helped her get on the way and gave her Oathkeeper.
This is one of the highlights of the series. That ending is going to give me nightmares...
