Horror of Fang Rock Edition

What do you think of the first Graham Williams era story? Is Reuben the Rutan a good villain?

Actually for being the first story under Williams, it still feels like the sort of thing Hinchcliffe would commission - do we know if GW signed off on it, or was it a situation like Tom inheriting leftover Pertwee scripts in S12?

>>
>>69359625
Pretty sure it was a holdover that Holmes had commissioned

I've heard that Uncle Terry really wanted to do a vampire story for the Hinchcliffe era but was vetoed because the BBC had a sexy vampire show going on around season 14 or so and thought Doctor Who and vampires would make fun of it or something

Dicks wrote this as a fun way of getting back at Holmes, since Dicks commissioned a historical script from him and he gave him Sontarans, and Dicks gives them the weakest silliest enemies (although he treats them seriously, just like Sontarans are a 'serious' alien treated for comedy)

Season 15 shows that Holmes was a lot more responsible for the 'dark' stuff than Hinchcliffe with the first 3 or 4 stories all being arguably as dark or darker than Hinchcliffe stuff
>>
>>69359962
Dicks held on to the Hinchcliffe vampire idea for a while and pitched it to JNT when he took over, and it became State of Decay

Dicks is a truly underrated GOAT (and I dont even like the Pertwee era)

Jack hasn't even in been in many episodes and the last one was 6 years ago.

I mean, normally I would agree with you. Fanservice is a bad idea and can ultimately kill the show. But it's Jack. And it's the Christmas Special. That can be fun for people that don't even know the character.
>>
>>69373909
Hiw long he's been gone is irrelevant. Jack also had a popular spinoff with many episodes that his character was explored in more depth for those interested.

It sounds like fun to you because you are a fan who wants to be serviced. The average viewer is going to be faced with diminishing returns. Jack showing up and making some comment about 12 being old/a silver fox and then angsting about being immortal is not an exciting or fun development. New ideas, characters and premises are more exciting than covering the same old ground and we've already had plenty of the latter in 12's era.
>>
>>69373909
>That can be fun for people that don't even know the character
no one tuning in for Jack will be ppl who don't know the character

if they want to boost ratings they should get a big guest star who hasn't already been on the show to do a one off

Well they should wait to air confidential until everyone as watched the episode. They should know not everyone can watch the first airing of the show and hold off on showing the confidential until the next day or something. Or better yet just air them a week apart. That way you can see how they did the last episode right before watching the new one. I swear the BBC is run by idiots that just can't think logically.

You are literally the first person I have ever heard of who had this problem. I imagine most people realised they shouldn't watch a half-hour long "making of" program and not expect it to contain spoilers.

You could always just not watch Confidential on first airing, and wait for the re-run later in the week...
>>
Captain J was just an Angel ripoff who liked cock

Confidential analysed the thing you just watched to death, and then spoilered next weeks.

>You could always just not watch Confidential on first airing, and wait for the re-run later in the week...
Like I said, I stopped watching it during series 3. But I really don't think it's so much to ask that they just wait a little bit longer to air the confidential. Airing it after they show the episode ONCE seems like they are intentionally trying to ruin it for everyone that can't catch the first airing.

And that's all I'm going to say about this now, clearly you think differently and you don't seem to understand where I'm coming from so I'll just leave it at that.

Seems more likely that they were trying to hold the attention of the majority of people who did watch it on airing, by saying "now switch over and watch this as well".

DOCTOR WHO > DOCTOR DW WHO > DOCTOR WHO DW > DOCTOR · WHO

None of them are truly good though.
Something always feels a bit anticlimactic at this point when the title of the show turns up and it's just "DOCTOR WHO". At least the classic series had the good sense to put the WHO underneath and in huge letters.

I think the current trend is taking advantage of widescreen. As much as I love the classic style, a vertical logo just isn't as visually appealing with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The best thing they can do is cut the fucking serifs. I've made the complaint here plenty of times, but serifs are ugly and outdated. Modern graphic design focuses on edge simplicity. I was so hyped when the sans-serif logo was being used on promotional toys and things before series 8 and was pissed they didn't actually start using it.

So, shall we make an actual new thread? I would normally be against it, but the other one is already flooded with OP's autism.
>>
>>69415119
Yeah, sure, go ahead. It's not like it could start a thread war and get /who/ banned or anything.
>>
>>69415201
>le thread wars automatically get /who/ banned meme
Stop. Nobody's going to complain if we refuse to use a thread that's terrible and was made by an obvious troll once in a while.
>>
>>69415201
The other thread is literally more of a /got/ thread than a /who/ thread. It needs to be abandoned.
>>
>>69415291
There's like four posts about GoT at most. There's more in a regular thread.
>>
>>69415242
But they will complain if said troll posts another thread.
>>
>>69415348
Then we'll report him and he gets banned and his threads deleted. Nobody's going to ban /who/ for one retard.
>>
>>69415387
Bans are pretty easy to bypass. I don't see any point in worrying that it's a "shit OP". Making a fuss over it and making another thread will only encourage him/her to continue. Anyways, I'll be in the new thread, no matter how shit the OP.

No, ignoring his threads and reporting them will encourage him to give up.
But sure, if nobody wants another thread I won't make it.

The person didn't make a bad thread on purpose to annoy us, they're just stupid and shit at making threads. And now I guess they're shitting it up because we called them names? I dunno.

>The person didn't make a bad thread on purpose to annoy us
Yes they did. They've been doing it for fucking months. Observe how almost every time he does it before the bump limit is reached to stop people from making good threads.
