First off the biggest problem with the scene is the choreography is TERRIBLE. Whether they had dual wielding or not that was the same kind of choreography the sand sneks had last season that got so much flak, it just looks so cheesy and stupid.
Secondly, Arthur Dayne is called 'The sword of the morning' for his greatsword dawn, they literally could have had either of the other two kingsguard dual wield if they really had their heart set on that. This scene was so powerful in the book with each of the kingsguard coming forward and saying one line of the conversation and both sides full of respect for each other and some what sad about being honor driven to fight. They re-wrote it so the other two kingsguard weren't in it, the conversation was shittier and Ned was pissed at them then hired literally the worst choreographer in hollywood they could find.
