Rhaegar did nothing wrong
00:01:24,480 --> 00:01:29,463
The King's going to be there
Everybody is going, Father
Take me as well
00:01:34,073 --> 00:01:39,562
Why is Ned going?
This is unfair.
00:01:43,523 --> 00:01:47,579
Hush now, Benjen
Ned is of age.
00:01:52,223 --> 00:01:58,119
But Lyanna isn't
00:02:07,218 --> 00:02:11,231
You can't joust, Ben
You're too little
00:02:15,017 --> 00:02:21,112
Shut it, macumber!
Lyanna just wants to see the prince is all
00:02:23,866 --> 00:02:28,769
Aye, I want to see if he's as dashing as they say
-Thats enough, Lyanna
They say the prince loved singing
00:02:31,254 --> 00:02:34,112
poor robert
-as it would be if i were a fair maiden
-Lya!
00:02:38,673 --> 00:02:42,124
Besides, tourneys bore me
-Lyanna!
00:02:44,126 --> 00:02:47,151
Enough of this!
Wylis, take these to the stables

The Hound is one of the most underrated fighters in Westeros, it all comes down to because everyone thinks of him as a thug while every other known 'great' fighters are knights (Hound hates knights)
In Robert's tourney, Mountian had all intention to kill the Hound when they fought while the Hound never actually fought back but instead parried all the Mountain's attack
a charcter even noticed that Hound had all the chances to strike a killing blow but he didnt took it
>>69168876
it sucks that autists love Stannis because without the memes he's actually a very interesting and tragic character
Could Jaime survive the onslaught if he actually stabbed the High Sparrow?
He did not have his other hand but the sparrow were armed with batons
>>69168824
>>69168848
Robert Strong is undead construct, probably immune to pain.
>>69168903
He would die and wouldn't take a single sparrow with him. Clubs are a pretty good weapon, especially against an asshole who forgot his helmet at home
>>69168903
Not with only left hand. Plus it would have been a bad move politically
>>69168801
The Hound is almost as strong as the Mountain and a much better swordsman.
>>69168903
He had fine steel and kingsguard armor, they had iron blunt weapons and rags. Even if Jaime swung like a blind man he'd be able to take most of them down until one hit his head, and if he wore a fucking helmet ever he'd wipe them all out easily
>>69168903
yes. he needed to kill the high sparrow and quickly announce himself as the new high sparrow.
So if the Umbers turn on the Starks who the hell is left in the north? Who's going to rally around Jon? The fucking Manderly's!?
>>69168801
I believe the Mountain's major advantage, besides his brute strength, is the intimidation factor. Sandor, knowing Gregor intimately and growing up with him, is probably immune to his shit already.

He might have fallen for her at first sight. It fits the whole prince charming routine.
>>69169621
>Makes sense why they use a stag for the Baratheon coat of arms
That was literally confirmed by GRRM a long time ago.
The point of the first books was being a subversion of the typical medieval ballad tropes.
Rhaegar was a prince charming, a beautiful boy straight out of a maiden's dream, he played the harp, fought valliantly with a sword, was a troubled soul in love with someone he shouldn't love, and then the fabled prince meets the real world, Robert was a man straight out real middle ages, strong, rash, moved by anger and revenge.
To make the point come across nicely, when fables meet the real world reality, they shatter; Rhaegar shattered against Robert's hammer.
But then, a certain writer became soft, he admitted that a lady friend of his "convinced" him to put dragons back in the book world, he started putting more and more of those fable tropes he was trying to shatter in the first place: the princess with her own special uniqueness (the dragons), a family where everyone gets to be super extreme special (a warg/exceptional young general, Azhor Azai reborn himself, a girl getting schooled by the most elite spy in the seven kingdoms, a shapeshifter elite assassin girl, a young boy exploring unknown lands) and, alas, the secret magical bastard trope fits right in.
Anyhow, it doesn't matter if Lyanna loved him back, it doesn't matter if it was a love escape, Rhaegar was a married man with a child, Lyanna was bethroted to a very important and powerful lord. Escaping together was a crime against the kingdom, making it look like a kidnapping was even more irresponsible.

>The term Stag cuckold differs from the usual use of the term cuckold. According to Sage Vivant, author of the book 'Your Erotic Personality', Stag cuckolds are typically heterosexual men who get off on the idea of their wives or girlfriends being with other men but do not really fit the historical term cuckold. Many such men dislike the term cuckold because society has denigrated its meaning, making it a shameful thing. The term cuckold has not only been misunderstood but also rather disrespected throughout history. They were seen as weak men that in a bizarre tradition from Europe were seen to wear antlers as symbols of this supposed weakness.

Love is the death of duty.
If the day should ever come when your lord father was forced to choose between honor on the one hand and those he loves on the other, what would he do?
He He would do whatever was right.
No matter what.
Then Lord Stark is one man in 10,000.
Most of us are not so strong.
What is honor compared to a woman's love?
And what is duty against the feel of a newborn son in your arms?

this whole shit was about both Rhaegar and Lyanna dumping their duties for their own selfish endaevors

It's been a while since I read the books. Is Jon Snow a good character? I can only remember him as being moody, sullen, emo, boring and dull. But automatically good at observation, insight, swordfighting, leadership, archery, warging, diplomacy, prophetic dreaming, and friendly to good people, and honourable and dutiful like his father. Which is why I kind of remember him as being a Mary Sue. Just another Harry Potter.
And I also keep hearing about how fans want him to be a legitimised Stark or a secret Targaryen or Azor Ahai or the Prince that was Promised, how they want him to ride a dragon and get a flaming sword, how they want him to save the world and marry Dany and become King.
That just makes him sound even more of a boring character to me.
Can some Jonfan give me an alternative and proper description on Jon Snow on why he's an interesting character you like? He must be complex and interesting in some ways, right?

The crime D&D committed with Stannis was that they rendered almost his entire plot-line, his reason for being in the show, to be moot. It was pointless because in the end Stannis winds up having no affect on the world around him. The Boltons roll right over him and scarcely notice.
If it had been done more intelligently they might have done this:
>Season 5
We have that scene were Roose chastises Ramsay for playing some Cerwyns. Telling him they can't rule the North through fear alone.
So let's have a few more scenes like that. Give us something about the Hornwoods, maybe even name drop "that Forrester lord you killed".
Now whatever Stannis does with his family, have him actually put up a fight against the Boltons. He still loses and still dies, but the battle is a bloody one.
>Season 6
So in the aftermath the Boltons have won, but their forces have been gutted. They are much weaker now and have lost Sansa. The other northern lords hate them, and especially Ramsay. Once Ramsay's brother is born Roose (and Ramsay) realizes that to appease his vassals and maintain his grip on the North he'll have to denounce Ramsay's actions, strip him of his inheritance, and hand him over to the other Lords to dispense justice to (execute him).
This at least would show that Stannis and his army, even in total defeat, will have changed the landscape in the North with all the surviving characters forced to adapt this. So his plot-line actually had a point now. It was also give Ramsay a more convincing reason to murder his own father and brother. Maybe even HE knows his regime is doomed, but simply to stay alive he'll do whatever he needs to survive even one more day.

I've been re-reading the series lately and you could tell Marin was really in love with the idea of ASOIAF from the beginning but it seems to have really simmered and gotten dull after ASOS. All of those are explainable by normal circumstances. Archery: Winterfell training; warging: genetics (his bros/cousins have it too); prophetic dreams: tons of characters have those. A halberd or Pole Axe? yeah, that would get through armour if you got a good hit in.

The shit tier weapons in the show certainly wouldn't, though granted the armour is just as terrible.

>Why do the later two books AFFC and ADWD feel like they've got no love in them?
'cause AFFC is where GRRM started going against his own original plan for the story and as such he has improvise.
Plus, he had a different editor who refused to reign him in. As such he added all these extra characters and plot-lines, without resolving the old ones, and now the story is even more complex than it was before.

Who else is hyped as fucked for Sunday?
I don't think there has been a single episode or scene I've wanted to see more then Sunday's due to the ToJ scene (Besides Cleganebowl which we've had no hype/leaks/anything for). The fact we might finally have confirmation on a 20 year old theory (R+L=J) is fucking crazy, especially being that if it's on the show it's 100% going to be in the books (GRRM talked about there being something from the first book that he was going to reveal in the 6th book that people figured out a few months after the first book was released, the only thing I can possible think of is Jon's parentage).
Honestly I know the show won't do justice to how we've all imagined the scene to go in the books (The whole 'Promise me Ned' with her like having / giving him a baby etc.), but please DnD don't fuck this up.
Also if the ToJ scene doesn't fucking confirm Jon's parentage I'm going to be fucking pissed.

I think somebody did the math and deduced it was impossible for Robert to be in as much debt as he was if it was just the tournaments.
So either GRRM doesn't know math or Bobby B was getting screwed some other way. Perhaps with Lord Baelish spending a lore more money than he was letting on.
I think it's probably the former though.

Mary Sue/Gary Stew doesn't mean a character is flawless or qualified beyond expectations, it means its qualities are inexplainable by any internal plot elements. Jon's qualities are pretty easy to explain and make sense in their context.
Btw keep in mind that the main points of comparison between Jon and other fighters/archers are mostly people with literally zero proper training (criminals and wildlings), which is also why he seems OP.

In my opinion, the absolute best part of these books, and what sets them apart, is that the new povs give a completely different look on the actions from the previous books.
It is no longer only the main players and lords and ladies, it is guards and priests and victims that comment on the game of their lords and kings.
And wwe get to see Cersei's pov instead of Tyrions and learn new stuff and realities that Tyrion hid from us or turns out to be a lie or false impression.
And fuck yeah for the Dornish, even if the story only rewards you at the very end and during rereads and fucking hell are the Ironborn interesting.

I'm not ruling out the "getting another ship" bullshit, I'm ruling out the fact a smart dickless man like Varys risks everything to kill someone he doesn't need to kill (Obviously talking about show Varys, I understand why it happens in the books)
