AFFC and ADWD have some of the best written chapters of the series, the problem is it's a clusterfuck because George doesn't know what he wanted to do and some of the chapters are a pain to read through.

The only thing that really casts doubts on Euron's claims is his self-proclaimed erratic behaviour. People think he might lying based on his threat to Rodrik the Reader after he calls him out and asks if he really went to Valaryia and other places. I always took that as more Euron just trying to put the Reader in his place since Harlaw is more or less the second most powerful Ironborn House.
He clearly has been away pirating for a long time, which just surviving that lifestyle for years is a tough job. He also has a crew of "mongrels" he had to have picked up somewhere, not just in Tyrosh or Lys raiding the stepstones, but from far away places. Obviously he also has the horn, and no matter what it actually does it is clearly magic, so he's probably telling the truth about Valaryia as well. Then, he also captures the Warlocks, who were on their way to Slaver's Bay from Quarth to get revenge on Dany, so he at least he's been that far east.

Well Euron was banished, so it's not like he could waltz in until Balon was dead. And he and his crew couldn't storm Pyke and kill Balon themselves. He also needed to look like and accident. Some amateur assassin would probably fuck up and then EVERYONE will think Euron did it, the faceless men are pretty discrete.
The dragon Egg doesn't do Euron much good at all, he can't hatch it, and selling it to buy sellswords of dubious loyalty is a bit riskier than getting men to follow you because you are King. Euron wanted the Iron Fleet for his plan to get Dany's dragons anyway.

Doubtful. That is tournament armor. Armor used in battle often had gaps on the back of the legs and arse, covered in linen and mail. Then again that might be because they were less advanced and they didn't figure out how to cover everything until armor fell out of fashion when guns came around.
