This. It was a very simple setup and payoff. You will not see this kind of coherence in a Zack Snyder film.
>>

that whedon hates white men. so he hates himself, he punishes cap.

He did, the hammer jiggled. When he realized it was about to lift he stopped trying to actually lift it because he didn't want to embarrass his friend.

This
>>
It started to move. If it had been a situation where he genuinely needed the hammer, he probably could have lifted it. But he stopped trying and they laughed it off. I'd bet money we're going to see Cap use Mjolnir in Infinity War at some point.
>>
>>68705578
Violence is not profane, only sex is. Do you even wholesome Christian family values?
>>
>>68705528
It jiggled, because cap is almost worthy, so later on we'll get cap lifting the hammer in eternity war to solo Thanos
>>
>>68705403
(who)?
>>
>>68705578

He sees war as a necessary evil, which it is. You on the other hand are a pussy.
>>
>>68705250
He almost did it, that's the point of that fucking scene, you impossibly retarded fuck.
>>
Steve is a soldier, a warrior, through and through. He leads soldiers like no one else, but he understand that he is not a leader of people. That he doesn't have the right to govern others outside of the needs of his team. He absolutely believes that war is all he is good for, but that belief comes as much from his humility as his belief that as a man out of time, he can't connect to the modern world and thus relies on the familiar structure of the military chain of command.

Thor could not wield Mjolnir because his actions proved selfish and vainglorious; he sought war simply to show how great he was an endangered the people he cared about to do it. Steve would not do this, he doesn't fight like a Viking with boast and laughter; at best he's got a dry wit but he rarely even cracks a smile in combat. He understands what he's fighting for and why.

So why can't Cap lift Mjolnir? He doesn't see himself as the kind of person that can wield Mjolnir. It's a weapon built for heroes and kings; remember Odin forged it for Thor in the belief that it would serve as his badge of office when he became King of Asgard, just as Odin's spear Gungnir served as his. Steve Rogers doesn't see himself as a hero or a king. He's a soldier, and keeping himself firmly grounded in that belief is what made him the best choice to receive Eskine's formula.

So basically Steve can't lift Mjolnir because he doesn't believe he's worthy of it, or that he doesn't want to be able to because either it sees him or he sees himself as a hero king, or some other title that makes him feel uncomfortable. Mjolnir would absolutely find him worthy, but maybe it senses he doesn't want to see himself that way so it holds back.

I'm guessing desperate times might force them both to work together in Infinity War though.
>>
>>68705403
>>68705643

Is this a new meme? It's stupid, I can tell already.

Stop it.
>>
Remember, Cap's biggest fear was not having to fight any more.

The reason he couldn't lift the hammer in that scene is because his intention wasn't noble.

Steve could lift the hammer if it was to, say, save someone else.

A better question would be:
>You grab Mjölnir's handle
>Break the desk under it
>It will either
>A) Fall to the ground exactly as you intended, while in your hand, as doing your bidding.
>Or B) Remain in mid air where it was laid, in your hand, causing you to wield it.
Does this constitute a loophole?

By the way, technically speaking the fine print doesn't say that you need to be worthy to lift the hammer. The fine print just says that if you are worthy while wielding the hammer, THEN you shall wield the power of Thor, so nothing really stops the Hammer from allowing someone else to wield it. It just doesn't like the concept.
>>
>>68705938

>>
>>68713137
A happens.
Your intentions have nothing to do with it, you're not worthy of wielding the hammer, so the hammer falls to the ground, with you attached.
>>
>>68713229
Say I wield the Space Stone (That's the one that can affect Gravity, right? Or is that the Reality Stone?)
>I hold the hammer
>I manipulate gravity to move the hammer in the way I want it to move
I am in complete command of a worthy thing. Infact in a way, that worthy thing is an extension of myself at this point.
Does that make me worthy?

Bretty good.

Cap's AoU arc was all about him not being able to live outside of the fight. His nightmare by SW, his conversation with Tony where he realizes he can't "end the fight and go home", him looking longingly at Hawkeye's house when he finds out about his family, the ending where he tells Tony that training the New Avengers is his home. Then you literally have Ultron tell him something like "God's righteous man, pretending you can live without a war". His arc in the movie is about him struggling with the concept of home and a normal life and at the end realizing he can't achieve that. Fighting with the Avengers is his home.

Because Iron Manlet is MCU's best-known character and baseline heavy-hitter. No surprise that the rest of the roster's feats don't stray far from what his armors are capable of.

As it stands there isn't a single Avenger who can 1v1 Man of Murder right now. Not until the Captain Marvel flick, anyway.

Cap solves his problems with violence. Where as the plot of Thor 1 was that Thor had to solve his problems with violence to become worthy to use the hammer again.

In AOU, everyone had a nightmare and saw their worst fear. Cap saw the end of war being his.
>>
>>68711124

It's a magic hammer that recognizes intent.

The elevator isn't being actively managed by someone just to move the hammer, it's just doing its thing, so it moves with it.

Trying to lift it with a truck like in Thor is a person trying to lift it (with machinery), so they can't do it.

I imagine if someone pushed a button in the elevator for the sole purpose of moving the hammer, it'd create problems.

I think stan lee who helped making super-man and hulk said they would be the only match. mostly because hulk has no limit, super-man does.

What? Quicksilver tried to catch it and it forced him to its movement. Your argument would make one 'worthy' while the hammer was caving in their fucking skull.

>>

Nah, there's civil and shitposting capeshit threads on both.
It all depends if the topic at hand is interesting enough for people to focus on discussing it instead of biting baits.

>>
>>68714823
To be fair, AoU was kind of a mess and people just disregard the movie from the start.

It had some good themes and arcs for the characters, but the execution was pretty fucked. It could've been a much better movie with a different director.
>>
>>68714516

My understanding is that Superman isn't weak to magic so much as he has no superhuman resistance to it. It affects him the same as it's affect any other human.

Depending on how the rules work, he may be able to do something about it, though - if he's attacked with magic lightning or fire, he's still superhumanly tough. He could practice snapping out of enchantments. If the enemy's spells require ray attacks, he could dodge.

Doctor Strange would definitely have a shot against Superman, though, but he'd have to get the jump on him, since Supes could super-speed punch him; you saw how fast Faora moved against those soldiers.

Why is it hugo weaving wanted to quit? I cannot think of anyone more perfect for that role
>>
>>68715015
I think he hated the make-up process.

They can always recast the actor if they want Red Skull back though.
>>
>>68714928

Almost certainly. Cap always needs a war to fight - he couldn't bear to see the war end for good. And that's enough to begin the corruption.

I mean, Frodo was pretty pure-hearted and it corrupted him. He didn't throw the ring in. It had him.

they complain all the time when you have rightwing opinions that you should fuck off to /pol/ but they themselves especially during the force awakens fad talk about raiding /tv/, i've seen it in their /swrebels general/ threads fuck /co/ right up the ass. no wonder comics turned to sjw pandering without a fight they're complete cucks

They're not going to cuck us out of this scene, right? They need to do it in IW.

Damn this is pure kino
>>
>>68715208

It will be there. And Thanos will ask him who he thinks he is and how he dares to stand up to him and he answers "I'm just a kid from Brooklyn" just like in the first Captain America movie.

The writers are same, they already re-used the "I could do this all day" line for Civil War.

He's holding back, hard. If he so wants he can match all of the Avengers combined (bar Hulk) in a fight. He holds back because he doesn't want to pulverize everything in a ten kilometer radius and make his friends feel worthless. Which is why he was barely in AoU because honestly, he could've snapped Ultron in two if he didn't want to play around.

Pic related, he BTFO a fully prepared Iron Man with one lighting strike. That's the difference between a man playing god and a real god of thunder.
>>
>>68715762

Yeah that was forced.

The movie is canon. William Hurt is in Civil War. Where the fuck is she?

This is why Cap and Tony made excuses why the vision could lift the hammer, while Thor saw it as a a sign they can trust him.
>>
>>68705938
Thor consistently allies himself with Tony in the movies, I think if he was in Civil War he'd be helping out the quipster
>>
>>68705938
holy shit is he really that thretening and OP in the comics?

Thor in the movies is a wuzz in comparison

Yeah but he just doesn't fit into the universe.

They made him too overpowered so he can come into any situation and just fuck everyone up.

If they had made Asgardians a little more gimped I think I could hang onto that a bit better but as they stand right now they have no weaknesses.
>>
>>68705528
Yeah, IIRC there's a shot where you see the hammer budge and Thor knows what's up.

Hulk is the exception to pretty much every rule anon

He is literally raw unstoppable strength
>>
>>68705938
why can't we have this Thor in the movies? ;_;

hopefully we see a bit of his OP side in Ragnarok.
>>

>>
>>68717199
it's true, it's been said since thor came abound, and is why thor's movies always lack.
>>
>>68713183

Because Iron Man is popular.

Avenger movie implied Thor's lightning can't do shit to Tony which doesn't make any sense.

Question:
Since technology is what you create to control what you understand through Science, and Science itself is nothing but the study (any study) of the forces that govern existence,
Then wouldn't it be completely within the realm of possibility that "magic magic" is part of a sufficently advanced civilization's science and technology?

If a sorcerer can study, understand and control magic, how is he different from any scientist who studies, understands and controls different forces that govern the universe?

What could possibly stop someone from creating devices that use, focus or control magic, while you can do the same with everything else, and there infact exist magical artefacts?

How do you know that Thor magic isn't actually magic, magic just layered beyond tens of thousands of years of mundaneness to the point where Asgardians consider it nothing more than just another natural force to control like magnetism and electricity?
