All it takes is some critics to reappraise a middling thriller for everybody to start seeing things which aren't there. I've seen M. Night movies with more emotional depth and smarter twists.
I can see both sides.
On one hand, criticizing something like Lawrence of Arabia for being too long or slow would be idiotic, since it adheres to the pacing of epic films as a genre, and the slow build up of the film is what makes its action sequences so daring.
On the other hand, a film's "point" can also be generally displeasing to you. That is, the film can be achieving exactly what it's setting out to, but that still doesn't register for you.
Like, I get what spring breakers is trying to do, I just find it annoying as shit. You can still "get" a film but not like it.
What's the criticism. I think you can definitely make valid criticisms about it

the opening snow shots they use for the title card was taken on the highway outside of my house growing up in Oakport Township, so that's neat. Apart from that I don't think any of the movie was shot in Fargo
