It really just comes down to personal preferences. ASOIAF (which I really like too) is a nice soap opera mixed with a pseudo-medieval fantasy which was written for the taste for the early 21th century people.
LOTR however is technically a world made of the mixed mythology of Saxons, Norse, Celts, Finns and several more folks. It is an epic fantasy written by a conservative English middle-class man in the first part of the 20th century.

i dont see how aragorn took all the glory. this was teh greatest redemption scene of a character ive seen. if you didnt respect him before, you definitely respected him after that and even loved him. his loyalty and humbleness displayed towards aragorn in taht scene was quite breathtaking (literally because he was dying and taking his last breathes)
