Haven't seen BvS. But that's a pretty big discrepancy between Professional Critics and the audience. Ill assume film critics/media sites weren't "properly" compensated for good reviews.
>>
>>67858102
But in reality, BvS get 98% with 100k votes even before it was out in America.
>>
>>67858102
Basically what >>67858386 said.
About 100k audience reviews were out even before the movie got its wide release, so really what you're looking at here, is half the reviews being "I liked it!" before it came out, and the rest, the other half soomehow dragged it down to 70%, which means if we assume everyone who rated it after it came out rated it honestly, then the real rating is somewhere under 50%

Nigga, understand this:

Marvel knows the formula for the perfect blockbusters. They can place any character there that people will eat up because the story beats are always the same.

It's also much easier to sell a new and repetitive character than to sell a different take on beloved character. People are much more open for the former than the latter.
>>
>>67859215
But I guess a lot of people haven't heard about Batman and Superman since they have no movies that established that universe so it would be fair to compare them to Iron Man who nobody knew existed before the first Iron Man movie.
>>
>>67859324

This. I'm not arguing the Marvel movies are bad, what I'm arguing is that they are movies in plural. It's the same shit over and over. The people defending BvS may not be smarter per se but sure enough the marveldrones have to be the dumbest capeshiters
>>
>>67859157
>>Well Iron Man isn't a literal who

He was a C-list hero that nobody on the mainstream knew about and the /co/ hate it because "muh civil war".He was also portrait by a then C-list actor trying to recover his career after drugs and shit.

And even will that iron man was able to get 600+ million WW in 2008 having to compete with The dark knight without 3D or imax tickets and without china pushing the sales as much as now.

Iron man and RDJ may be top 1 hero/actor in the mainstream right now but lets not pretend BvS is in the same situation that iron man was.

Really?
>>
>>67859063
Spider-man 3 was GOAT though, you're high-balling BvS way too much.
>>
>>67859520

Iron Man is also an unknown character so people had no expectations or bias other than wondering if RDJ will be able to finish the movie without having another episode.

BvS star three characters that everybody know and love, and people have some really fucked up and intense notion about how they should be portrayed. The expectations were a lot higher.

That's the difference here. For example if The Amazing Spider-Man had been the first Spider-Man movie ever the critics and audience would have been a lot more lenient with the movie. But since it was a reboot people were a lot more picky about the movie.
>>
>>67859157
>Why isn't it called Mos2 then?

That's kind of the definition of high balling.
Giving a very high estimate.

Say, someone throws a ball 50 yards, and you say it flew somewhere under 100. That's highballing, while saying it flew over 5 is lowballing the estimate, because it's a true statement, but it's greatly exaggerated.
The first implies that the throw as close to 100 yards, while the second implies it was only a little bit over 5.

You're saying BatmanVSuperman and Spider-Man 3 are of similar quality, since you wouldn't say something like "mfw Citizen Kane was better than BatmanVSuperman". That would be an understatement, that would be a clear highball. But so is Spider-Man 3.
>>
>>67859859
The audience score was near 5/5 with 100k ratings before it got its wild release, so you need to substract roughly 100k 5/5 ratings to get the proper score.

Also

IM3 made 786 million worldwide by this point.
>>
Reminder that it isn't actually as bad as the old capeshit movies. It's just the effect of inflation, nothing is interesting anymore unless the rating is either skyhigh or at rock bottom. Whenever you feel the slightest disapointment you instantly go for a low score. In this case it's even more relevant cause it's a blockbuster movie that everyone is dying to express their flashy opinion for.

Kinda like how a movie/game needs to have at least 95% to be considered good these days, you know, like the 4chan rating-scale?

I'm not even defending the movie, i'm literally pissed and think Znyder deserves what he got for not actually making it Batman VS Superman, but in no way is it Fantastic Four-tier
>>
>>67859966

Iron Man was a new character to the audience and the story beats of his movie his designed to please the audience. There's nothing that can offend the audience.

Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are wildly known and loved characters. The audience have clear ideas of how they should be treated based on their nostalgia. Not to mention that people are already tired of Superman and Batman movies.

Thanks, senpai. Got some new ones to add to my pasta.

Daily Reminder. DC Fans are full of goalpost moving, denial battered housewifes that can't admit their savior is a hack and that BvS was shit, critically and success wise.

Before the release of BvS
>It will be the Dawn of Capekino.
>Marvel is going to get BTFO.
>"It will be a philosophical political drama that explores mankind's need for hope and the dangers of absolute power".
>Zack Snyder will deliver... In Zack Snyder we trust.
>People loved it, received a standing ovation.
>It's being called the next Dark Knight
>Literally EVERYONE loved it!

After the release of BvS
>Critics don't matter, they're paid off by marvel and/or just have a skewed view since they're so used to Marvel movies they can't appreciate true CAPEKINO!
>Just look at the user score, fans obviously love the movie.
>Citizen Kane and 2001 also had mixed reviews when they came out!
>Its deeper and smarter than people think, too much for Marvel fans.

After 1 week of the release of BvS
>Reviews don't matter, fans love it and it will still beat out Avengers.
>It will still beat out Ironman 3.
>Its going to break a billion.
>I-its making more than Ant-Man and Captain America, g-guys.
>Avatar had a slow build up too!
>People just don't understand the genius of this film.
>It came out on Easter Weekend, g-guys that's why there's an 81% drop off in Box Office numbers. It doesn't mean anything!
>Suicide Squad will turn things around, g-guys I p-promise!
>It takes multiple viewings to really get the underlying theme guys and symbolism of this """"""""film"""""""

Yesterday I saw Antman for the first time again, since I saw it in theatres. It just reminded me of all the funny parts that BvS or MoS never had, and future DC movies never will have. Its little things like

>i want you to go inside and steal some shit
or the mexican dude with the "so me and ignacio are in this exhibit and there this girl fine and she says she knows so and so" part. The only movie that may have this is Suicide Squad. But that's been Marvels appeal to the general audience.

being a 80's baby marvel consistently outsold dc in comics only natural that marvel movies do better now since we're grown with disposable incomes.

He really didn't i remembered the same plus Ronan minus Whiplash who wasn't really the villian of that film if you take Justin Hammer into account.

But you're right. Marvel is pretty mediocre with it's villains. However so is the DCCU at this point. Joker in SQ might be fun but Joker is always fun and pretty hard to do wrong. It's just a fantastic character.

You are now aware that you live in a world, a terrifying world, where there are people right this moment who use terms such as "canon" and "cinematic universe" when talking about films and television shows.

A terrifying world where imagined characters on a screen are required, according to those who discuss them, to adhere to "ground rules" set out by the creators of said-characters. A terrifying world where those that discuss these characters and their actions, are actually enraged if said-characters deviate from the mannerisms expected of them, the mannerisms that may have initially been set in the pages of a comic book.

Think about that. A comic book. For children. Yes, pictures and words on the same page, which are meant to be read by children, that are actually read by adults who then bicker and express their frustration at film-adaptations of these comic books not being "faithful". Faithful to a comic book. That's supposed to be read by young children.

This is your world. This is the world of capeshit. Terrifying, isn't it?

Starting the MCU with Iron Man, Thor, and Cap as foundational pieces would be like if DC started a cinematic universe with Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, and Blue Beetle. How in the FUCK is WB going to let Snyder direct Justice League after this? This movie isn't just underperforming on its own, it might wind up killing all the DC movies. Now all those other movies are going to have to fucking apologize and do damage control for this movie.

You can already hear it with Aquaman's director repeatedly talking about how "fun" his movie is going to be. Warner Bros wanted this to excite people but all it's done is make them angry.

How do you not fucking get rid of Snyder after this? You can't risk him ruining Justice League, that could literally kill the DC movie universe. Boot his ass out, delay the start of production until summer, and find a new director. Has to be done.

I remembered Whiplash because he was the only dude who could replicated the Iron Man technolgoy. He's a nobody in the comcis, but in the movie, they made him interesting.

I remember Malekith because fuck yeah Dark Elves. When was the last time you saw an Elf on scnreen that was not in LotR? THOUGHT SO. And its a Dark Elf. And Space Dark Elf, like the Dark Eldar.

Iron Monger I remember because of Jeff Bridges aka the Dude.

Crossbones was a bad motherfucker who I really want tos ee die, but he won't die yet. Also he was in the Winter Soldier.

And Red SKull? I mean seriously. This was the poster boy for the Nazi side during WW2. And he was Cap's equal in his movie. ANd his longest nemesis in the comcis.

So fuck you: I remember the MCU well enough that I remember all those villains. I'm pretty sure even a nromie, who ahd seen all the MCU, can at least remember the Red Skull or WHiplash

It pretty much is the same as Earth One. A lot of elements of MoS take from Earth One, as well as Superman 2. Of course, one of the major changes was replacing the villain with Zod, but I think it worked for the better by giving Clark a villain who was an equal in strength.

*sigh* Nice dubs btw.

Look bruh. Thor is also rooted in classicism and mythology. The Norse epics. The fights with the jotun. The old speech.

Its why I like to compare MoS to Thor. For what it is, both Thor and MoS work. The Thor film revisits the Norse mythology and implements it in its movie, and even the design of Asgard is a homage to the design aesthetic of Jack Kirby. Likewise, MoS had such simialr homages. To the old American ideals that young Kent was raised on. The birth analogies some anons have pushed. There's a lot to take from MoS, and I do think, for MoS, it worked.

But BvS... it just fails. And no, I'm not going to fault Snyder. I don't think he's the problem. No, BvS fails because, a lot of the ideas it puts, which sounds nice on paper, just don't work for the average audience and viewer. You can tell me the symbolism of Lois Lane dropping the spear in the water, then going to get it back again but, to the audience, it still looks Lois acting really, really dumb.

>it was actually almost completely opposite what Nolan aspired to convey.
It's an extension of the trend that Nolan started dipshit. 2008, he made TDK and blew everyone's minds, and Fox and DC have tried their damnedest to recreate the general components based on the TDK precedent. Gritty, dark, "adult," heavy focus on symbolism and subtext, etc etc.

The only place where Snyder is actually doing stuff that Nolan didn't already do, are for Snyder's generally-horseshit cartoon cgi bullshitfests. It's still the exact same formula that Nolan pioneered 8 years ago, except this time made by a /fit/ faggot hack.

>It's hard for marvel people to understand this because their movies have no style altogether.
I'm not a "marvel person." I've always been a DC person. Defending Snyder's garbage shows exactly how much of a corporate club faggot you are. >Look bruh. Thor is also rooted in classicism and mythology. The Norse epics. The fights with the jotun. The old speech.
only superfically though. that's the main difference. thor has a hammer and the people are named after the Gods. The rest is mindless plot and action.

this actually had characters with timeless motivations.

>>67883581
>Gritty, dark, "adult," heavy focus on symbolism and subtext, etc etc.
you could say the same thing about tim burton's batman. it's not novel nor illegitimate to have actually bad intentioned characters. rational ones at the same time.
>>
>>67863247
It wasn't exactly hard to do either.
It was just one part of a montage where we see Paul Rudd treat an ant as he would a beloved dog.

They didn't make Doomsday talk.
>>
>>67884563
MoS maybe. But not BvS.

And yes, dick waving and who has the bigger cock is a timeless motivation. Being told you're weak and wanting to beat up a stronger bully is also a timeless motivation. But it is a mindless one
>>
>>67884662
None of that matters. This movie is timeless art, and even the expertly crafted visual poetry is being overlooked by all but those intelligent enough to realize how magnificent this singular cinematic event truly is.
>>
>>67873265
>if DC started a cinematic universe with Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, and Blue Beetle.

That made me hard. They should honestly make an additional, completely separate cinematic universe to put all their less popular characters in they they will never get to. I guess that's what TV is for, huh.
>>
>>67884563
Father-son issues are not mindless.

And hell, Thor was directef by Ken Branagh. KEN BRANAGH. The guy who did the most faithful film adaptation of Hamlet. While Snyder does style over substance pieces.

Admit: you are shilling for BvS because you are a fan. Or a contrarian. Either way I respect both.
>>
>>67884563
>you could say the same thing about tim burton's batman.
What are you 14? Batman and Robin was the outcome of DC desperately trying to copy what Burton did.

Man of Steel was written by TDK trilogy writers, produced by Nolan, and is an overt attempt to give Superman the Batman Begins treatment. Both MOS and BVS copy Nolan character beats, Nolan structure, Nolan's gritty realism, dark real-world subject matter, and heavy thematic undertones. The problem is, that doesn't work that well when you have cartoony, cgi action sequences and characters with ridiculous powers. Most of the problems with MOS and BVS is that they try to copy something that A: was only good because it was well-helmed and well-written, and B: Doesn't work with characters like Superman.

They're trying to make Nolanesque movies in a Marvelesque cinematic universe and the end result so far is largely shit.

it was more complicated than that.

bvs explored a few important cultural themes

democracy v. individual
power and its consequences
personal relationships and their scalability to institutional events

a lot of stuff

plus jesus metaphor, excalibur, greek mythology. it's not the same as thor having a hammer.
>>
>>67884762
Ah yes, the "I'm smarter than you" defense. Liked by Megadeth fans as well.
>>
>>67884762
Nobody is "overlooking" the "visual poetry." We all see it. It's just not really that impressive. It's generally pretty tryhard and concrete tbphwyf.

what exactly from the movie do you think of as "expertly crafted visual poetry?"
>>
>>67884840
I don't understand your point. Burton was Batman. Burton was dramatic. So was Snyder. Nolan wasn't that heavily dramatic it was more visual than personal or thematically driven. If anything Snyder was a throwback to Burton but it's not the same thing, even though both are psychological.
>>
>>67884762
doesn't matter man. Some people don't want to grow, some always want to. It's their loss.
>>
>>67884880
>>democracy v. individual
Thor also had that. Only one son of Odin could become king.

>>power and its consequences

Again, Thor. Thor abused his power, and was banished for his recklessness. Loki also tried to wrestle for power in a devious way.

>>personal relationships and their scalability to institutional events

Father-son relationship that affects a monarchy. Thors love for Jane that reflects a bettet appreciation for lower beings and makes him worthy.

A lot of stuf, yes.

>>excalibur

Not in BvS

>>greek mythology

BvS didnt explore this. Perhaps Winder woman might.

>>>excalibur
>Not in BvS
>>>greek mythology
>BvS didnt explore this. Perhaps Winder woman might.

these were both explicitly mentioned and through metaphor.

lex talked about prometheus and superman is prometheus figure.
bruce's parents were seeing excalibur the night of the murder if i'm not mistaken. the kryptonite sword is a type of excalibur. louis layne diving to get the sword out of the water is related to king arthur if i'm not mistaken, something about the lady in the lake.
>>
Who cares ?
>>
>>67875567
Because Vaughn takes shitty source material and makes better movies out of them.
Kick-Ass was a piece of shit comic, that became a decent film.
Kingsman likewise.
He also got the X-Men out of their slump and made what was probably the most kino entry in their franchise.
>>
The film wasn't great but it doesn't deserve the critical backlash it's receiving. There is much worse capeshit out there. However, this is subject to personal opinion.
>>
>>67885198
>>lex talked about prometheus and superman is prometheus figure.

Okay this one I can grant

>>bruce's parents were seeing excalibur the night of the murder if i'm not mistaken.

Actually it was the mask of Zorro. But Snyder did show that Excalibur was also screened. It could have been either

>>the kryptonite sword is a type of excalibur.

The kryptonite weapon was a spear.

>>louis layne diving to get the sword out of the water is related to king arthur if i'm not mistaken, something about the lady in the lake.

And arthurian legend had Merlin to show Arthur the lake. NvS didnt.

I get what you are trying: its just weaker in BvS unlike MoS. If you like BvS for its portrayal of the DC character then fine. I cant stop you. And I do think people should see the movie to form an opinion.

But I think BvS fails.
>>
Capeshit deserves no attention

Excalibur was on the marquee, not a coincidence.

you're being too literal.
>>
And there are still people on /co/ calling it great.
>>

And I think BvS did not convey the symbolism effectively
>>
>>67884840
>Batman and Robin was the outcome of DC desperately trying to copy what Burton did.

No, Schumacker was trying to replicate the 1966 batman tv show but had to use the aesthetics established by Burton for pretend continuity.
>>
>>67886010
>Excalibur was on the marquee, not a coincidence.

The marquee said "this wednesday" underneath the name of the movie. The mask of Zorro poster said "now playing" on it.

Marvelcuck, shut up and eat shit.
If you would have been objective and actually watched the movie you'd have seen that it was a good capeshit movie, but your blind hate for everything DC doesn't allow you to see it.

I enjoyed many Marvel movies, but there is no denying that they are all almost the same. I welcome a change in the genre and MoS and BvS are exactly that.
If you are trying to convey a sense of tension it is hard to believe it when the characters are throwing quips every second sentence
