Where were you when the Russos were exposed as one hit wonders and Winter Solder was merely lightning in a bottle?
>>
>>67697818
Who knows? Tony's all for being toys of the US military because he thinks everyone is going to fuck up as hard as he did when he created a genocidal super-robot, yet Widow seemed pretty against it shit like that at then end of Winter Soldier.

If she's not playing spy, she's probably only with Tony because he's the best chance she has at finding Banner.
>>
>>67697741
Marvel movies are peak designed-by-committee movies

They hire directors and people who will work within their framework rather than auteurs with vision who want to control things themselves. Also they hire cheap.

The Russo's, the guys behind what is generally considered the best MCU movie and now are in charge of the flagship movies? The made an indie movie and directed two movie pilots before doing Winter Soldier. Whedon was a TV director.

To be fair, it's not just Marvel doing this. Look at things like Jurassic World, Fantastic Four, etc. Plucking a promising indie director for cheap trumps hiring someone proven, expensive and independent.
>>
>>67698160
What's funny is people think Winter Soldier didn't have quipping.

It wasn't Whedon level bad where people communicate purely through quips but there was still plenty of it.

>>
>>67697329
Serious question time. Why is this line supposed to have any impact? How is it? These aren't the comics, and in the 2(?) movies they're in together, they're fighting, and there's not really anything that makes it appear that they're friends. If anything, at their best, Cap just sees Iron Man as a co-worker.

Any hope for Suicide Squad has been destroyed. What movie actually survives heavy reshoots? The final film might be as bad as Fant4stic if they fuck up with this now, just to pander to the FUN crowd.
>>
MAXIMUM QUIPPAGE
>>
>>67698808
But they still always bicker. It's like when they're facing a threat, they work together fine, but in their spare time, there's nothing they agree on. So it should be a no-brainer that of course Captain America is going to choose Bucky over Iron Man, Bucky is far more of a friend than Stark ever was. There's no drama.
>>
>>67698900
you're basing this off of things that are never shown in the movies because it's a movie. You're thinking too hard about the plot to a superhero movie
>>
>>67698823
>Any hope for Suicide Squad has been destroyed

Yeah, it's ruined now that it's not a grimdark mope fest, I was looking forward to such a deep and edgy take on The Joker

He's basing it off things that ARE shown in the movies.

Falcon and Widow are closer friends of Cap's than Tony, let alone Bucky.
>>

>>67698488

quips aren't inherently bad. I had no problem with any Winter Soldier quips. I also have no problem with quips when they come from a character like Ant-Man. Whedon just went crazy with them in Age of Ultron.

>>
>>67699063

>>
Now THIS is more my speed!
>>
>>67699099
Why do we INSIST on talking about this as if they have to be one or the other? That kind of thinking is EXACTLY what's wrong with botch the DCEU and the MCU. BvS was exhausting because it was TOO grimdark. AoU was irritating because it was TOO quippy. Why can't studios just make a well balanced movie?
>>
>>67699186
AOU was better than BvS though, so its safe to say marvel atleast knows what they are doing.
>>
>>67699063
That doesn't count

It's not fair tho
>>
>>67698940
What the other anon said, I'm just saying exactly what was shown in the films. The only times Tony and Steve get along is when everyone is getting along, like the party in AoU, or after the big bad was defeated. Aside from that, every other scene they hate each other. And even here, it still feels the same way, what with lines like "Sometimes I want to punch you in your perfect teeth." Right off the bat, it sounds like they're already at odds and they can't find a middle ground already. How is it supposed to be believable that they're friends?

Now I'm more of a DCfag, so I never read the Civil War comic, but I would certainly imagine there was a whole lot of content that showed off Stark and Rogers 1 on 1, being buddies, prior to the event. But it's just not as present here. Both characters already have deeper friendships with other characters. The tension that's attempting to be created just isn't there.
>>
>>67693492
I don't understand the conflict. Why would some level of oversight be a bad thing, and why would Captain America of all people think checks and balances are a problem? If anything, wouldn't Tony Stark, a wealthy capitalist, be the one who would prefer a hands off, laissez-faire approach to Avengering?
>>
>>67699226
Says you. But even if we were to agree, better does not mean great. Why not aim to improve?
>>
>>67699226
No it fucking wasn't. AoU was definitely the same tier as BvS. But naturally a Marvelfag will say AoU was better, and DCfags will say BvS it was better. But they were definitely the same level in their series, both enjoyable to respective fans, but everyone agrees that they're worse than the previous film, and have multiple flaws.
>>
>>67699324
Thats what civil war is though, right? How many quips have we seen in civil war, 2? the underoos, and this one. Does that not look like improvement?
>>
Pendsonhahyihimmy
>>
>>67699289
Tony has changed. His inventions have killed and caused so much trouble in the previous movies...ie killer robots, guns, missles etc. Bucky was Caps friend before he was Captain Americlap. I'm sure there is something in the upcoming movie that exposes Bucky as being set up.

tl;dr it makes sense if you think about it
>>
>>67699289
No because modern wealthy capitalists are corporatists, and Cap is from a generation that didn't believe in overbearing government.
>>
>>67699353
To be fair, absolutely. And the Russo's directed what I personally feel (and most seem to agree) was the best Marvel movie by far, but I'll have to withhold judgement until the movie comes out. AoU looked like it was going to be a major change of pace, too, but when the movie came out it was more of the same. At least in my opinion.
>>
>>67699353
I wouldn't say now. Ultron looked intimidating (despite the fucking moving mouth and teeth and all that shit), yet in the movie he gave off some of the most quips, which was awful as your villain shouldn't also be providing comedic relief.
>>
>>67699289
The problem is the context. This is not a vacuum where both sides are cut and grey. Tony's position is valid but it would involve putting the Avengers under a corrupt army general under a nazi/hydra regime. How are you supposed to trust this shit?
>>
>>67693492
If Hawkeye doesn't get killed in this movie, I'mma be mad miffed. I'm sick of his stupid fucking face.
>>
>>67699365
So how come instead of saying "Wow, maybe I should stop doing stupid shit", he says "We all need to be put in check."

I mean, there's a lot of shit he's been responsible for fucking up, he can't really say everyone needs to be put in line when he causes the shit.
>>
>>67699491
True, but why wouldn't Tony understand at least that much? He knows Hydra infiltrated SHIELD. It shouldn't be enough to kill/die for. My fear is this is all going to hinge on Bucky, and that's a problem because he just kind of sucks major weiners and I don't much care for him.
>>
>>67693492

Why doesn't Ironman just give a bunch of Ironman suits to people that are loyal to him and just overwhelm the other side that way. I mean fucking easy to win this shit but noooooo.

bad writing.
>>
>>67699561
I'm just saying, in a real world context, if there was an organization like the Avengers running around a causing billions of dollars in collateral damage and what must amount to thousands of casualties, I would hope they would be accountable to someone.
>>
>>67699561
...but he does that in the previews iirc. Didn't he imply they all need to be watched including him? Isn't he trying to do that by having a watcher group oversee? He feels responsible and parts are his fault, but that would be like blaming the car dealer for someone drinking and driving and killing someone. Responsibilities and all that jazz

I'm just not looking forward to all the Civil War and BvS comparisons. They're going to go on for months, aren't they?

But they'll have so little in common aside from the main heroes fighting each other, and maybe two of the heroes die at the end of the movie.

>>67699561

>>67699646

The writing and production for this movie began before Sony agreed to sharing the rights of Spiderman.

As the Russo brothers themselves tell it, they were not sure how the Spiderman thing was going to end up, and after they got the rights they were sure to make him pivotal to the central plot.

I wonder if the reshoots had to do with that.

Also, this is a much more distant possibility, but I read far fetched rumors that they wanted to include the silverscreen Marvel characters in some capacity (Daredevil, JJ, Luke Cage).

This last idea is really a stretch, but the success of the shows has been resounding. Being confirmed as part of the overall Marvel continuity, it would be a really awesome fan service to get some cameos.

One of the biggest complaints about "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" from critics and comics fans alike is that it's simply too miserable. The Zack Snyder-directed blockbuster is missing the fun element that draws readers to the comic books and masses to Marvel's lighter-toned movies like "The Avengers" and "Guardians of the Galaxy."

If you're not paying attention:
Steve was friends with Howard and at least acknowledges that Tony is Howard's son and makes honest efforts to respect Tony when he can.

Tony has made explicitly clear in IM2 that he had issues with his father when he spoke to Nick Fury and in The Avengers, he let slip that the reason for it is because Howard seemed more obsessed with Steve than him even though "this so-called-Steve" was never around.

>"That's the guy my dad never shut up about?" -Stark, about Steve after he left the helicarrier lab when the hacking of Shield was discussed.

Steve is effectively some mythical older brother figure who always has praises sung about him and Stark is envious of as Steve always had Howard's full attention from Tony's PoV.

>This initial conflict is the whole thing that kicked off the "Civil War" Meme in the first place.

Tony came to meet Steve and let all his resentment towards him out in Avengers already and grew to understand him and respect him more than just a brother-in-arms, but as a friend.

it's typicul for Tony to think Cap is his friend, because he has no friends... maybe Rhodes, but i doubt even he likes him

Because there's more personality in a single episode of Agents of Shield than in any of the 2 DCCU films combined.

The fact that they keep attempting to trivialize three-dimensional characters, personality and growth/evolution of the characters by focusing all of their attention on the humorous aspects, with "Le totally not forced quip meme" should say a lot.

Instead of trying to tell an even half-decent story the current DCCU films are just full of blatant exposition dumping or speeches on morality and what constitutes good or evil.

There is no narrative of any kind in MoS other than Clark being Fellated by everybody that speaks TO him. BvS is 5 stories of comic-continuity-lockout fanservice rolled into one without any logical story cohesion.

>Dark Knight Returns
>Doomsday
>Death of Superman
>Justice League
>Flashpoint

Lois is:
>Never told the importance of Kryptonite.
>Not told to touch the spear, but she does attempt to dospose of it despite batman having already thrown it despite it being no immediate threat to superman to her knowledge.
>Never told to go back to get the spear and is given no logical reason to do so as she cannot see the fight or know what is going on. This is entirely a psychic event.

Lex:
Somehow knows who Superman is (Which could be excused in theory. There are plausible methods.)
>Somehow planned all of the events in the film from the beginning to bait superman which lines up perfectly with batman's fight against him.
>Plotted to create Doomsday, but for no logical ends that would serve him. If Doomsday did Kill Superman, then what? Doomsday is not under Lex's control.

Clark/Superman:
>Knew Lois was in danger three times and save her in each instance. The first instance, Lois was halfway around the world and Clark heard her in danger. Swift rescue then, but somehow didn't hear/rescue Martha Kent when she was kidnapped.
>Conflict with Batman was not over an Ideological difference and thus entirely moot.

>>67693492

This Superman is barely concealed - Lois figured out his identity with ease, the people of Smallville undoubtedly know who he is, and even the military aren't far from the truth since Clark told them where he grew up and asked them to look the other way instead of trying to track down exactly who he is.

As I said. It's plausible. Lex is already by default supposed to be incredibly intelligent. This is just now screwed simply because by technicality of Lex still being alive, the Clark Kent persona is pretty much at risk of being destroyed in the current universe.

Since Lex knows, he can pretty much Ruin Clark's life without repercussion. Lois will never be safe if his identity is public knowledge and Lex not using that would but absolute bullshit.

It almost seems like they wrote themselves into a corner on that and scrubbed the liability clean by killing superman off even though the conceit of Lex knowing is infinitely better a selling point than the rest of the contrived events in the movie.

(Other than the court bombing. That was a ballsy, but smart as fuck move on Lex's part.)

If they didn't cop out, Lex knowing Clark's identity honestly should have been addressed better as it's a plot point that pretty much writes it's own movie.

It's not, it completely fits Tony's personality.
He's so full of himself that he thinks Cap was his friend, he thinks everyone considers a privilege to be near him, and that everyone likes him.

But none of those were to completely change the tone of the entire movie because the previous one had awful reception.
They are talking about tens of millions in reshoots, even though the budget for SS was 30 million.

Lois:
>Is not a moron and can see it's hurting him.
>Had every reason to want a weapon that was dangerous to Superman out of anyone's hands.
>Lois knew something had been going on with the ship, then a monster shows up. Not a huge leap of logic.

Lex:
>Like you said, plausible.
>The timer was just the deadline, he didn't plan for Superman to be back right then, it's just coincidence.
>LUTHOR KNEW DARKSIED WAS COMING, the Cyborg footage had a mother box, he wanted weapons that could defend the planet, Superman was just fodder for his beta test.

Clark:
>Super hearing

Bullshit on all counts.

Lois:
>Had no context to go on. In order for her to know that Kryptonite was weakening him, she had to see the whole fight to determine that. The fight was already over when she arrived.
>Again, Batman Already threw the spear well and long after Lois arrived and was out of Lois's reach. She voluntarily went out of her way after both Batman and superman Left to retrieve and cast it further away when Superman was well and far gone when her main priority should have been having Superman take her to a safe location from Lex's schemes after having already been endangered by him TWICE.
>That IS a leap in Logic to assume she knew anything about Kryptonite at all. Nothing of any sort was explained to her. She does not Know it's properties or of the existence of Doomsday, nor does she know anything other than the fact that destruction is occurring in the distance. Her actions are simply not supported.

Lex:
>Timer has nothing to do with what I mean. Batman stole Lex's Kryptonite, Which was not planned for, but his plan continued exactly as scheduled. Quick Question: What was his plan? Triggering Doomsday or Getting Batman to Kill Superman? Or was Superman Supposed to Kill Batman? Judging by what Lex says and his implied motives, it could have been any of those three and it's unknown if the Kryptonite Really had further purpose in Lex's hands aside extracating Zod's fingerprints.
>Doomsday's literal first course of action was to kill LEX the moment after it hatched. Superman defended LEX from being killed. Lex gave absolutely zero fucks about preparing any sort of security measures.

Clark:
>Exactly. So why the fuck didn't he hear Martha and come to her aid when she was captured? He should have been on that. There's zero excuse for why he saved Lois 3 times and couldn't save his mother once.
>I'm referring to the finale. Clark wanted no fight, but still did just because the plot demanded it. Bruce ignored him for the same exact reason
