This will probably be a trend soon. Barely altering screenplays to loosely associate them with a big franchise. Keep in mind that at least half of the posters are toddlers. That said, these days with all of the leaked scripts and three teasers a year before the movie and the Star Wars marketing blitzkrieg it's hard for people to see this sideswipe marketing as plausible.
I also find it neat how different this announcement is to Cloverfield's, because that marketing campaign was really engrossing if you hopped on board

Experimenting within a series is all fine and good, but Cloverfield isn't a masterpiece with huge lore to draw on. It's a basic monster movie, so why not have the sequel within the same genre at least. It's going to be formulaic either way.
