The entire Avery family. They are an inbred mass murder cult. That's why they went to jail for sacrificing animals.
>>

We'll never know because the police somehow never considered either of them to be a suspect
>>
>>64632702
Yeah probably. Guy was giving off serious psychopath vibes. Also just listen to how he answers when the detective asks if Theresa was romantically involved with her roommate in the interview. Spurned lover is one of the most common motives for murder. Would at least have been worth looking into, but shitty cops gonna shit.
>>
>>64632702
Not exactly. She was killed because she crossed paths with a psychopath named Steven Avery, a violent criminal and rapist, and a child molester.

>No crime scene
>No murder weapon
>No direct physical evidence linking suspect and victim
>No motive
>Preposterously slim window of opportunity
>Suspect spends five days cleaning the impossibly cluttered murder scene with flawless forensic precision but forgets that his victim's car, with his blood in it, is 50 meters away on his lot and that he has several key evidence items just lying around his house, when he has a convenient and accessible means of disposing of both on his lot

Steven Avery is a shitty person, but he is the only person in history to apparently achieve being both a complete fucking moron and a dastardly criminal mastermind of Hannibal Lecter tier abilities at the same time.
>>
>>64633127

>>
>>64633190
Right, it could have happened that way, but you do realize this is just the shoddy story that the prosecution presented and not 100% factual truth
>>
>>64633221
Yeah but they found remains at multiple sites correct? Why would Steven burn the body at the quarry and then take the remains back to his house? It makes no sense.
>>
>>64633278
Many things about the case make no sense. Honestly we're all just speculating. The only person that really knows what happened is Theresa and she's obviously not going to tell anyone about it now.
>>
>>64633341
Yeah it's frustrating, just like Serial. I'm just surprised the defense didn't seem to stress the multiple burn sites thing as much as they showed.
>>
So wait, did they prove that Colburn found the Rav-4 or not? That whole segment was confusing because that seemed pretty conclusively to be proof of a setup. How did the police explain that one?
>>
>>64632717
IT LOOKS AT THE RIBBON ON THE DESK OR IT GETS THE POLYGRAPH AGAIN

>Steven's cousin and in-law stories about time also don't match

>Fat crying girl admits her story was an invention on trial

>Retard gets convicted because they call him a liar until he says something completely out of line with scene evidence that he also later recants and despite coercion being filmed and presented as evidence - no one bats an eye

>Episode 4 was directed by M Night Shymalala

What's the point of being a lawyer if the cognitive level of the courtroom is that low?

And I thought Paradise Lost was bad, at least there you could make some sort of presumption despite those kids not being strong enough to do such deep wounds. This shit is gaping hole: the trial.

I'd say that likely culprits are Steven's cousin (other nepphew, right?) and in-law guy + the 'hacker' that 'guessed' her password. I have no idea whether someone investigated a connection between them and I think Lenk and co. simply exploited the turn of events without bothering to find the guilty.

I suggest everyone that liked this to play Phoenix Wright, it won't feel like a caricature of legal proceedings anymore. Have a priest of chaos to set the tone for the remainder of the thread.

He was hired to defend Avery but yeah, he probably didn't really like him much. It really seemed like he felt for Brendan's situation though.

Seriously though, his strategy was so fucking dumb. There was no possible way that Brendan would be able to string enough sentences together in court to testify against Steven. My personal vote for most hated character goes to this piece of shit right here.
>>
Question: how was Brenden convicted of mutilating a corpse or whatever yet Steven was found not guilty for the exact same charge?
>>
>>64634810
I believe Steven's lawyers convinced the state to drop that charge.
>>
>>64634810
if brendan paid more money and hired better lawyers they would've done the same as steven's
>>
>>64634769
Kind of got the feeling that ginger weasel lawyer wasn't really interested in the case and just wanted it wrapped up as quickly and painlessly as possible.
>>
Was it just me or did the Avery matriarch not give a fuck about Brendan? Seems she only cared about Steven.
>>
>>64634999
Well it was her (firstborn?) son vs. her estranged grandson. Also Brendan was socially retard so I can't imagine him having much of a relationship with his grandparents.
>>
>>64634850
Yes, on the basis of the fact that it simply couldn't be proved the body was mutilated in the first place.
>>
>>64635074
Yeah but still, it IS her grandson. I just cant believe there is such a disconnect there. Also, they lived on the same compound. It was just weird seeing her being that indifferent to him.

How long did a voicemail password have to be back then? I know mine could have probably been easily figured out as I used it for everything and it was only 4 digits.

>>64635121
I think she did care, she was there at most of the trials from what I could see. But she looked emotionally and mentally exhausted, so there's only so much you can care and genuinely show it. Also she probably blamed Brendan for incriminating himself and putting Steven deeper in the shit pit, especially with regards to the media.

Same guy. The ex-boyfriend. The same one who 'guessed' her voicemail password and deleted the messages. I'm guessing they were in some way incriminating to him and proved that he was stalking/harassing her. Also it's a classic serial killer move to put yourself at the centre of a missing persons search when you have no real reason to be involved.

>No Crime Scene
Yes this part is true.
>No Murder Weapon
How about the gun hanging above Avery's bed? The bullet found in the garage had her blood on it, she died of a bullet wound, and the bullet was fired from that gun.
>No direct physical evidence linking suspect and victim
If you ignore the key and the blood, there's still DNA found under the hood of the RAV4 that is Steven Avery's and which was found AFTER Brendan Dassey told the police that him and Steven removed the battery from the RAV4 (a fact in the case). That and his gun was the murder weapon.
>No motive
He called her three times the day she was murdered, including from a *67 phone number. He once went out to see her wearing nothing but a towel. Teresa told her boss she felt uncomfortable going to the Avery farm because of Steven. Steven bought rope and handcuffs the day before Teresa went missing (His fiance was in prison, so it's kinda hard to link it to her). He has a history of sexual abuse against women, and while in prison, you can see all of the horrible notes he wrote to his ex wife even in the documentary.
>Preposterously slim window of opportunity
He had all Halloween night.
>Your last point
The prosecution didn't know where the murder scene was. The garage and bedroom were clearly guesses and were wrong. And Steven Avery is extremely stupid, his whole family is.

Guilty or not, let's get some fucking facts straight here.

Those are classic criminal interrogation techniques used across the country to great effect. Investigators can lie to you, and frequently do, which is why if you are questioned by the police in any kind of situation, you CLAM THE FUCK UP, and the only words out of your mouth are the ones that ask for a lawyer.

That's my biggest complaint, especially in Brendan's case, as juveniles are often given greater rights in such cases due to their limited age and experience. Like I said in a thread a few days back, in the state of Massachusetts for example, juveniles can be questioned by investigative authorities, but AS SOON AS THE JUVENILE BECOMES A SUSPECT the questioning must STOP, a parent or guardian contacted, and then the juvenile is mirandized ON TAPE in the presence of the parent or guardian. THEN the parent/guardian gets time alone OFF TAPE with the juvenile and they can decide if they want to talk/not talk with the police, and if they want to have a lawyer present or not, neither of which was done for brenbren. Now, that's in Massachussetts, I don't know how the juvenile criminal code is in Wisconsin, but it's still really scummy to not contact the parent/guardian and not have a lawyer present.
>>

>>
>>64639638
Lawyers, be they defense or prosecution, are always trying to shoot holes in the opposition's evidence to further their own goals (conviction/acquittal of the defendand) and one major way to do that is by cross-examining the witnesses. They'll have the witness tell their story/what they saw, and then pull out the records and say "but it's fucking documented here that you weren't here until 6 PM, so how the fuck were you there at 12 PM?" and then stop them from trying to explain anything to accentuate the contradiction. It's all about discrediting the witness. If they lied about that, what else did they lie about? It's purely manipulation tactics on the part of the attorneys towards the jury.

In high profile cases, judges are scrutinized carefully and face political opposition if they appear "soft on crime."

That said, many judges in America are former prosecutors who show heavy favortism toward the government in every case.

>How about the gun hanging above Avery's bed? The bullet found in the garage had her blood on it, she died of a bullet wound, and the bullet was fired from that gun.

The cops were 8 days inside his house, it's not hard to fire a bullet from his gun.

>If you ignore the key and the blood, there's still DNA found under the hood of the RAV4 that is Steven Avery's and which was found AFTER Brendan Dassey told the police that him and Steven removed the battery from the RAV4 (a fact in the case). That and his gun was the murder weapon.

If police has blood of you, they have your saliva too.

>>64638501
>He called her three times the day she was murdered, including from a *67 phone number. He once went out to see her wearing nothing but a towel. Teresa told her boss she felt uncomfortable going to the Avery farm because of Steven. Steven bought rope and handcuffs the day before Teresa went missing (His fiance was in prison, so it's kinda hard to link it to her). He has a history of sexual abuse against women, and while in prison, you can see all of the horrible notes he wrote to his ex wife even in the documentary.

BDSM is a fucking up fetish but it's there. Maybe he was a kinky guy, who the fuck knows.
Calling from a private number doesn't mean shit, maybe he was a pervert too.

>The prosecution didn't know where the murder scene was. The garage and bedroom were clearly guesses and were wrong. And Steven Avery is extremely stupid, his whole family is.

Took them a real fucking long time until they accepted the fact that the murder scene was not there.
Then they claimed it happened in the garage and didn't find the tiniest droplet of blood ANYWHERE.

Also pretty fucking strange they found her car in 10 minutes when his junkyard is 3000 yards big, and he had a car demolisher too. Why didn't he use that to get rid off evidence?

This is coming from a video editor, I know how to tell stories, but those trial videos are literally what happened. You can't falsify that stuff without it becoming incredibly jarring.

Do I think the Manitowoc police is in the clear? No. I think the key was a plant, and I think there's a decent chance the blood was a plant. What's your point? Some cops are corrupt and plant evidence to ensure convictions. This isn't a new story. It's awful but reality.

>>64644019
Wow, so if you tell half of the story, and ignore the other half, then it's not biased? You must work for MSNBC. How about the other 3 hours of Brenden Dassey's interview that they didn't show you or didn't even mention? Where he corroborated physical evidence like Avery's DNA underneath the RAV4 hood and the missing battery WITHOUT police telling him that?
>>
>>64644151
automatic mistrial then, based on your own assumptions. what are you arguing about?
>>
>>64644292
You have to convince a judge that the key and blood were a plant, I'm not a judge. I'm a guy who spent less than 15 hours looking at this thing, mostly from a biased documentary.

Also, mistrial doesn't get you off the hook. All it does is toss out that evidence, and get a new jury. People have been convicted of worse crimes on less information, even without the key or the blood.

Why don't the police and the justice department want to remove the corruption and cancerous members of their system? Why do they always go full nuclear instead of admitting the possibility of guilt? Wouldn't they have more integrity if they showed a little transparency? For that matter, why can't these authoritarian pricks EVER admit that they are only human and that they make mistakes? They would rather kill or take away someone's freedom FOREVER that admit any wrongdoing? Isn't there just one good cop out there who has the balls to take a stand?
