The books were always mediocre fantasy drives from Tolkien. So it wasn't exactly strong source material, but holy fuck MTV did such a bad job with this. It's not even camp bad or CW bad where it's actually okay because it's on CW.
Elfstones is also one of the stronger books too. They should have just done Word & Void if they wanted teenagers running around.

You can tell what audience they are after. The opening scene wasn't in the books and could have been copied from The Hunger Games.
Some bad acting and writing, but to be fair the books weren't that well written either. Usual teen show bullshit.
But on the positive side it definitely has a decent budget. Really good SFX and sets, action scenes were mostly well shot. dat elf and dat ass.

I just finished 1-4 eps and it is good enough to continue watching. I love how rich the environment is. Everything feels solid and real. There's a fair share of tropes though.
