Nice cockpit
>>

>maximize landing zone visibility

because cameras dont exist in SW, do they
that cockpit rationale is like putting another steering wheel in the trunk of my car so i can see better when i reverse; oops nevermind i have a camera that pops up in my read view mirror
>>

Does every transport get a Captain Phasma ?
>>
What I want to know is why every entry ramp has jets blowing dry ice when moving up and down. The transport does that at the start, and I swear I've seen the Falcon do it, too.

The pilot outfit looks cool, though.
>>
Fucking trash
>>
>>64235670
We are talking about a universe where starship bridges need to be in exposed conning towers
>>
I love all the tech mumbo jumbo they make up
>>
>>64236590
Yeah... that design is one blaster shot from about 40% of available angles away from killing the pilot and fucking over the occupants. A squad of A-wings could tear a few dozen of those things to shreds.
>>
>>64235670
Even if there's no cameras wouldn't the ship's hull just obscure the landing area from that position.

It should be under the ship's belly if they wanted to give the best view to the pilot.

That's a modern APC + WW2 landing barge

Space Hinds were so much better why didn't they go with an updated version of those considering they didn't have any problem stealing every single other thing from the prequels or the OT
>>
>>64236842
Probably because it's an ugly design that doesn't even look like it's from Star Wars.
>>
I guess it reduces the chances of a terrorist hijacking.
>>
>>64235207

Yes, what a totally fanciful and unrealistic design. It couldn't possibly be based on a real type of landing ship.

I... I just wish they would once put a CC inside the starship, or the pilot in the middle of the vessel. Give that guy a VR room and physical controls (two handed joysticks, what have you). But I guess that shit would be too much to ask.
>>

So the First Order are the Allied powers. After the jihadists killed the aging President and tried to establish galactic sharia law the First Order fought back. Makes sense.

Fuck you, gunships were the coolest ship in the PT
>>

Was that chinaman even involved in OT?

Nearly all of his shit looks like average video game designs from some late 90's playstation game.

Landing boats
1. Only move on one plane
2. Can only disembark at the frontier between their domain (water) and something completely unaccessible to them (ground)

No, the coolest one was the red ship from the beginning of TPM.

And even that one would have looked better grey/white as it was probably intended when Ralph designed it back in the 70's

I don't see why they couldn't just have these drop ships be remote control from the main ship. Would make more sense than having pilot onboard.

It was one of the discarded Tantive designs from McQuarrie IIRC. Or it could have been Falcon, don't remember. And yes grey ships is part of what makes the SW aesthetic. They probably used so much white / whitish colours because RMQ was a former NASA illustrator - NASA craft actually had practical reasons to be white and reflective.

No, it's just that America produced the most iconic amphibious landing craft of all time during WW2 in the LCMs such as the "Higgins boat". The Japanese had similar, but much less famous, designs. The Germans had basically fuck-all, which is why they abandoned their plans to invade Britain.

Because these could probably not fly in space seeing how many holes are in their hulls, and the First Order has no base of operation on Jakku or on not-Endor's moon from which they could deploy atmospheric flyers[/spoiler}
>>

In the Clone Wars show, the holes are sealed by retractable panels when they deploy in space. Once they're in atmosphere, they open up again. Webm kinda related if I think it's the one I think it is.

Short answer is because of the neimoidian operators.
Longer answer is that we only see the ships that have neimoidians aboard. The landing barges probably don't have any life support since they are monitored from orbit.
Shorter answer is because Lucas, lel

Better question yet : why do the federation's tanks have gunners and pilots? Why not make it all automated/drone?
>>

I think that was a design flaw they fixed when the Clone Wars rolled around.

But even Landing Craft today have the front door, because it is the fastest way to exist. If they went out the sides they'd be chest deep in water and could drown if they fall, plus they are a target for longer as they trey to move up the beach.

why? why would it bother you? these are fucking spacecraft, the only time you need to strap in is jumping to hyperspace

>>
>>64239515
Yeah, but as an example, the LAAT gunships have handles on the top, and the lander ship here has a similar purpose.

The way the troopers were standing as the ship rocked looked like they could fall over at any second, and they were jostled around a bit.

Plus with the falcon later on, the droid was getting thrown about.

Just seemed off.

Key things that I can remember from it:

>Resurgent-class has a redundancy for controlling the ship hidden internally to prevent another Executor disaster.

Pretty sure they were shown strapped in to seats or standing harnesses during the actual flight. They were only shown standing when the transport was landing so they could make a quick exit. It's like IRL paratrooper transport planes.

It's a shame they felt the need to have Padme use a different ship in every movie. While all three are very nice designs, it means the Prequels effectively have no equivalent of the Falcon, no singularly iconic transport for the heroes that's practically a character in its own right (even though, as it happens, you only see Han, Luke & Leia all together on the Falcon once, Han isn't seen on the Falcon again after landing at Cloud City until TFA, and only Lando is actually seen on her in RotJ).

AFAIK they use the regular freighters for business with the droids aboard, because they actually don't take up that much space on the freighter.

the one that got blown up was the control ship, which is why all the droids could think for themselves (limited) in E2/3, because they realized how vulnerable that was

it shows all the landing craft are stored dissembled in the back hanger, and the tanks are under the floor, star-fighters are hung from racks in the ceiling like TIEs. leaving you with the whole hanger volume for cargo. Multiply over the whole freighter fleet and you've got a lot of droids.

those were Mon-Calimari designed ships. It seems like you were expecting them to be designed by the same exact humans who designed all the craft used by humans throughout the series. for one thing, the rebel ships are cool as fuck and you gay if you think otherwise, even Tarkin said they were the epitome of engineering beauty, and for another the models are astoundingly difficult to vacuform so they certainly were not being lazy, they were meant to be ovoid and organic to contrast with the angular and industrial empire
>>
>>64245051
That's because the Y-wings in the movies are stripped down and heavily modified.
>>
>>64244917
I like these ships. The tumours probably get built over damaged bits so they're like scar tissue. Works really well for the more organic angle.
>>
>>64240290
I really like the Acclamator-class. It and the Gladiator are my two favorite SDs.

I don't have the cutaway on hand but basically Y-wings are supposed to look like this, maintenance engineers were just tired of removing the plating every time they had to maintain them (which was basically all the time) and simply stopped putting them back on

do you have it?

apparently her armor is naboo royalty chrome. perhaps phasma is nubian?
>>
>we went from sleek, intimidating gunships bristling with gun pods; to this bland, shitty, rectangular box

I could make a better design with Legos.

Pro tip: it's the wingspan that gives ships their appeal.
>>
>>64244917
I like their design but where are the weapons. With the Star Destroyers you could guess where they are and they had a couple towers on each side but the rebel fleet capital ships look entirely weaponless.
>>
>>64245141
In the EU it's explained that Mon Calamari build all their ships to be unique, partially as an artistic thing and partially to keep people from knowing their weak spots, and as a result the rebel technicians of all the other races fucking hate working with their ships a lot.
>>
>>64245151

The Gladiator never appeared in the movies though. A lot of the best designs were in the Eu and now are questionable, like the Interdictor or the Tector.

The Y-wings had a bunch of exposed wiring and guts and stuff. X-wings had a little too but I'll give you them and the A-wings though.

Let's not even mention the B-wings.

>>
>>64245213

In Battlefront (Dice), they just hover around in the skybox, and you see red laser blasts emanating from them occasionally towards star destroyers in the skybox.

In Battlefront 2 (not Dice) they actually put turret pods of various sizes on them that could be destroyed.

I also wonder why Mon Calamari ships seem to be the most prominent. They have Corellian Blockade Runners, but basically everything else is fish tech.

I wish we could see some capital ship battles in Episode VIII with new types of Resistance ships.

>>64245943
I'm so shocked that I don't even know what to write, it feels like discovering a whole new life.

I mean, is it fanfic or cannon, was it planned while they designed ANH Y-wings?
>>
>>64240362
not true in the slightest
>>
>>64235207
Gotta love how hard they try to make the technologies seem realistic and advanced, with their ion drive thrusters and ion collision bars and yet you got space ships flying through space like there's aerodynamics in there, doing sharp turns and perpetually accelerating and it makes me cringe every time
>>
>>64246334
what is realistic about ion drive thrusters
>>
>>64246334
>you either go hard or soft scifi
flog off.
>>
>>64246137
It doesn't really have anything to do with ANH other than that Y-wings were suggested to be pretty much ancient relics from the last war, and that they used to have larger degree of armored covering, but those Clone Wars designs weren't developed until like 2009-2010 for the show, which is most certainly canon.

They exist. NASA used ion drives on at least one satellite that I know of.

They're not going to be shooting you around like a TIE fighter, they're like the more low acceleration over a long time side of propulsion.
