Let's say Companion A dies. The Doctor sees her die, which we're told "locks it in." But in reality, all that should be locked in is that he saw the image of her dying.
Why can't he rescue her and replace her with a hologram to deceive his own past self, thereby ensuring that his past self does everything that lead to him eventually rescuing her (thereby avoiding paradox)?

It makes sense that if the event (say, the death of a loved one) that provoked me to go back in time (to try and save them) were prevented, I wouldn't go back in time (and thus it wouldn't be prevented, which would mean I would go back in time, which would mean it would...). So there is a paradox there.

I think the Doctor knows he will outlive everyone he travels with, he can prolong life but sooner or later he will have to move on. I think depending on circumstance he might take things a bit far to save his friends like with Clara, but all in all he appreciates the time he spent with them and is glad he at least got that opportunity.

Has anyone else been seeing random Doctor Who hate? I haven't experienced much since this week, and maybe since the 90s when people were hating on Star Trek. Now I guess its cool to like Trek. Saying Clara is the worst companion is pretty hilarious. Everyone knows its Martha. She only had one season to herself. They took her from medical student to general of the universe. Like in the US you can have a masters degree in just about anything, and you can always be a teacher barring any legal fuck ups on your part. I got a job fixing computers and doing remote and on-site technical support for an industrial computer manufacturer. I did that for a few years, but then a job with an insurance company came along that offered better pay and benefits so I went with them. It's not in computers, but it's still customer support and still requires a lot of critical thinking and problem solving (hence the high pay compared to other jobs in the field), which are two things I really enjoy. Once I put in some time at the entry level I'll be on track for moving up.
So yeah, not having a degree means you have to start a career more slowly and put in a few years to get exactly where you want to be, but I think it helped me figure out exactly what I like doing for a job and what I'm good at. Plus, people with degrees have to start somewhere, too, they just don't usually "count" the 4+ years they spent in college.
You can spend 4 years in college not earning money and trying to figure out your future, or you can spend 4 years earning money and gaining job experience while you figure out where you want to go. I'll admit going without college does take more work and effort because you have to prove yourself to get where you need to go, whereas a degree does offer a higher starting point in the career world.
As for what are good insutries, I'd say STEM and healthcare industries are two that won't miss. They're both huge and offer lots of variety in their opportunities.
