Avatar's visuals werent unique, generally speaking. Floating mountains, sure. But a lot fo it was taken from the ALien franchise, starship troopers, halo, a fuck ton from star wars (episode 3 in particular, and a tad bit of genndy clone wars), matrix, 2001, ect.
Not to mention the plot was rehashed shit.
Cinematography wise i guess all it did was a few flying scenes, but to be honest i think how To Train Your Dragon was better than Avatar, mostly because they consulted Roger Deakins.
oh and HTTYD did the moses plot better, ust because the characters were more likable and the plot felt less contrived or forced.
but i digress.
Avatar is a big hit, but its not an influential hit. People will try and copy it to make money, but no one will copy it because they're inspired.
