Most times, when its not this season, reviewers get DVD's of the film so they dont have to see it in theaters and can watch it from the comfort of their own home and then they (actually, usually their friends, family, etc) rip said DVD and release it. Most of the time, this shits heavily regulated. They know how many DVD's went out, watermark the DVD with a number watermark, etc.
But this time of the year? Its award nomination time. They send out tons of DVD's to the voters. Its only suppose to be seen by the industry voters, but like the reviewers, their family and friends get to them and rip them. But because theres so many copies out there, its to much work to watermark every single one.

So, the possibility of watching in a hd quality is now a guarantee for something like 90% or higher of the nominees and contenders. There's still a waiting of course, but now, in the window until the awards season ends, it's filled with ever better qualities. And to think that were 3 or 4 that were out on dvdscr on a year like 2009.

It's a safe bet when you have the most profitable franchise in the history of everything backing you up. You don't depend on reviews because the movie is going to make record numbers regardless. No so true. I work as a lowly extra but got bumped up to SAG years ago by getting a few lines in a movie. As long as I'm good standing with the union, I get 3-5 screeners a year for voting in the SAG awards. My buddy who got lines in a Depp movie 7 years ago also gets screeners as well. It's great when he gets different movies so we can see more things.
