I think each OP needs to make a specific topic for Star Trek so people don't think they can't enter the thread because they saw a couple reruns. Making it a general welcomes redditors. When redditors see "general" they read "subreddit". But as for criteria

Some Fed species start to consider separatism since the war showed the Fed alone might not be as safe as they thought while being directly allied with the Klingons or Romulans would be better and would leave you with much more sovereignty
Things about to fall apart
Starfleet puts out a dozen of brand new ships, à la Titan, with the mission to boldly go and get shit done. Assign some experienced captains with some fresh faces as first officers to show that the Federation still has its experienced old guard and has a promising future
Follow one of the ships while the alpha and beta quadrants pretty much fall into a galactic cold war

I'm honestly more hype for Axanar than the new movie at this point. Prelude was probably the best put together fan creation I've ever seen.
Probably the first fan creation of any series that didn't make me cringe while I watched it.

Well that's dumb. You shouldn't be comparing their reactions in STiD to their reactions in WoK; you should compare them to their reactions in Space Seed. And there's grounds for legitimate criticism there. They've all HEARD of Khan in Space Seed, the way we've all heard of Hitler, Napoleon, Alexander the Great and Caesar etc. Scotty says he has a small amount of respect for him despite the atrocities.
It's forgivable, though, because all Khan's shit was meant to happen in the 1990s, kek. So call it a retcon and reserve your criticism for the fact that STiD was a bit of a letdown.

Yah, the use of documentary style was genius. It's not particularly demanding of top-notch actors and making cool looking CGI battle scenes and motion graphics to cut away to isn't that hard.
Moving away from that might be a huge mistake, but I still think there's a better shot of it working out than Beyond being anything more than Fast and Furious in Space.
