The person they got to cut out the actors from the promo shots has obviously never used photoshop. Seriously the best part is they tried to hide the jagged edges and lack of actual hair strands by just blurring it. It's something no professional would have done, even back then.

After looking at more it seems they couldn't even be bothered to blur the edges in most of these. They are just hard cuts on top of generic backgrounds, with random light rays beaming out of everything because it looks so sweet and awesome! I don't really like the way the War Doctor refuses to take on any kind of identity. I feel like it would have been better if he chose a new name for himself, like if he called himself the Warrior or some other name. It's a bit silly to just have him respond to people calling him the Doctor with "I'm not him!" or refusing to introduce himself by any name to anyone. I feel like the whole refusal to be called the Doctor would be more believable if he was also asserting some other identity.

I want someone to capture this tone, this atmosphere. I don't know whether it's because the BBC are cheapskates or there are legitimately talent-less people behind the camera, but the look and feel of the show now is horrible. It's dated when it's aired.
Looking back at this video, Classic Who actually looks better than New Who in almost every respect. There is actually a queer feel to the sets, designs and costumes. The show currently feels like a CBBC special.

The show isn't funny, interesting, dramatic or compelling. It's so wrapped up in retarded plot threads that never get resolved that kids will zone out even quicker than I do. The only people who watch it are manchildren, old people who put any old shit on or a small group of families that force their kids to watch it because it's what they did when they were themselves kids.

Eh, it's definitely the best story of the 3, but I was still really disappointed.
*Still no action WAR War Doctor (yes there are some flashback nightmares to him shooting civilians but it's such a small part of the story)
*The War Doctor not having a separate name, like the Warrior or something, is silly - does he seriously never, ever use a name? Mantling a different identity would have been a stronger choice. Using John Smith in the 3rd story was grating.
*Briggs delivers a pretty average plot here. Could they really not try to rope Shearman, or hell anyone with a better track record than Briggs (who I don't dislike FYI, but his output is generally average)?
*Just general disappointment that for a boxset of THE WAR DOCTOR we got John Hurt drinking juice, muttering sci-fi nonsense about the Null Zone, etc. He's such a fantastic actor. He deserved Scherzo-level scripts.

The frequency of juice breaks was kind of odd, also every single time someone called him the Doctor he has to say "No I'm not," ot started to get kind of annoying. Overall a pretty weak story I think, but it's only purpose is really just setting up the characters. I thought John Hurt's voice sounded way off near the beginning but it gradually started to sound more like his DotD self.

Doing a slow, set-up-the-characters-first story first is fine in my books, but the 2nd story is just mundane plot, and the 3rd only flirts with interesting ideas.
I actually have somewhat high hopes for vol 2, 3, 4 though because Briggs isn't writing them. I have such a love/hate relationship with Briggs; he wrote my favourite Doctor Who finale of all time, and I love most of his work on Dark Eyes, but the sheer amount of his output is so repetitive and dull.
Hopefully you enjoy the next two stories more than I did senpai. If nothing else, at least the Torchwood audios are fucking great.

And I agree with you. Series 6 has some stellar individual episodes, but the arc was handled hilariously poorly. Series 7 is just a general mess. Series 2 isn't fantastic but RTD gave it a fairly solid cohesion. It holds up fairly well, apart from the obvious duds.
For the record, my favourite series' are 1, 4, 5, 8, and 9.

Was just reading the Vortex issue with The Conspiracy and apparently RTD actually plotted out a "Torchwood season 5" in audio form, but they decided for the first 1 or 2 audio seasons to just do interrelated stories set during Season 1 and 2 of Torchwood, and hold off Russel's big season idea until they thought they could do it justice.
