Seriously, if you have watched Akira, you'd realize just how sophisticated anime is and it blows away anything Star Wars would have to offer.
A lot of people mention Ghost In The Shell, which has just enough of sexuality in the mix to draw in the western audience I suppose but I must say that Ghost In The Shell is not even in my top 10 anime, not even close, that's just how deep the world of anime is.
Some anime is so disturbingly mature like Fractale that I wish it would challenge the system and submit it as a Drama category in the Oscars just to bitchslap the snotty Academy.
It's not just the level of maturity and sophistication anime has, it's also quite original, entertaining, and visually fantastic. I would regard anime as the highest form of cinema art-form.
But hey, me preaching about anime won't do you any good, you gotta go out and see it for yourself just how much you are missing.
The recent one I would recommend to check out is Sword Art Online which is light and easy to get into anime for the first time yet appreciate it as much, but if you want the heavy stuff right off the line check out Guilty Crown in which the plot is so complex and twisted that you'll need extra oxygen pumped into your brain in order to comprehend everything, and if you want amazing visuals and a gripping drama that also has awesome mecha battles Aldnoah.Zero is the shit.

In Empire Luke trains with Yoda only in the force. They run, jump, meditate and lift things. There is no sabre training. But he manages to contend with Vader even if Vader is just toying with him. It's implied that Luke's ability to fight comes from his training in the force.
In this one Rey already has a bit of melee training and when she touches the lighsabre and has a force vision I understood that this was kind of a catalyst to her feeling the force. Then under pressure she realizes that she can feel Kylo's fear and starts to understand that she has some control over the force and uses it on the Stormtrooper.
So when it comes to her fight with Kylo she is being bested (even when he is wounded) because he has the force on his side. In her moment of desperation she calls on the force to aid her, just like how Luke called on the force to help him shoot the death star and she manages to over power and injured and emotionally unstable Kylo for enough time to save her life.

I'm not trying to be an apologist here because by no means was it a perfect movie but I thought Rey beating Kylo in the force pull match was pretty well explained.
He just killed his father, he's in breakdown mode and he's got a fucked up wound. Whereas Rey has come to terms with her ability in the force and that the lightsabre "belongs to her" like that little alien said, plus Finn is on the ground after heroically facing off against him so the power of friendship is there etc. etc.
The impression I got from the whole ending scene was tha Kylo was basically a mess mentally and physically at that point and in no shape to be hunting down two pretty gung ho heroes with the righteous power of goodness on their side.

I just got back from a midnight screening. How the fuck is this film being labelled a classic already? It was a shallow rehash of ANH with so many plot and character problems. I was really looking forward to this and I have come away disappointed.

And why would you want to make a Star Wars villain (who wears a mask. No, this is not a banepost) more human? When he took off his mask with Han, that was good. That made sense. At first I thought Abrams was even more shit and that Ren would actually turn to the light again, then "that bit" happens. I'm kindof glad it did. He lost any chance at being intimidating in this movie, they were doing a good job with that in the first scene where he blocks the blaster shot but after the first time he removes the mask he started going lower and lower until he became pathetic

They hadn't encountered something like that before. So they couldn't of expected it. You'd think the higher ups of the rebellion would take a close look at any big, familiar projects the First Order might've been working on. And why are the rebellion in the shit again? The empire's had to start itself up again after their two main leaders died, and were only replaced decades later. Surely they should be a little more disorganised. It was also weird how little impact the destruction of Coruscant seems to have. No one really references it afterwards. Obi-Wan felt Alderaan's destruction and remarks on it, why not in this?

He's really the link between Rey/Finn and the Resistance, since BB8 is his droid. He's also the ace pilot character for the space battles.
