>>63516009
It makes you intoxicated, but then you can "shake it off" if you need to.
>>63516051
Braga and Berman aren't capable of doing that.
The show and its writing may have been shit, but I feel I need to give a shout out to Voyager as the comfiest ship. Had a small crew, everyone felt like family, all battling against the odds, slogging away at their one goal, to get back home. In a place full of weirdness and truly alien shit, at least you still had that 130-odd crew to hang out with and fuck around on the holodeck. Plus it had better mood-lighting, and a less 80s-tastic decor in general.
The Enterprise D may have had all its beige carpeting and overwhelming lights and the capacity to host entire families, but its hugeness makes it seem overwhelming and impersonal to me. Plus as the flagship of the Federation, if you had your actual family with you, you were potentially dragging them into crazy dangerous situations at times. Why would you do that if you had a choice?
>>63516102

Also ditto the point about impersonality.

The Intrepid class deserved a better show.
Can we get a powerlevel discussion going? It seems as though the Empire has the numbers and the force going for it, but sheer tech wise Starfleet wipes the floor with them. Starfleet also has Q to match the star wars force.
Pic related.
>>63516274
Most of the cast in general deserved a better show. People point to a lot of problems, but I think just getting rid of the 'reset button' as a singular change would have drastically improved the quality

They can cross the entire Galaxy in short order in the Star Wars universe. It takes upward of a century at max speed for the Trek universe ships to pull that off. Even though I tend to lean towards the Federation in the 1 on 1 fights, in all out war, that kind of mobility advantage is a trump card in the empire's hand.
>>63516102
>>63516138
Also, I liked this little ship too. Maybe I just like the smaller ships. I like that you can look at it and the windows and equate it to a real world size. Neither Voyager nor the Equinox are much bigger than a mid-sized cruise liner. The Enterprise D is like the biggest building ever, in space.
>>63516330

>>63516330
Pic is wrong, Star Wars ships do have shields, but if that one episode of TNG where they comment on lasers is true, 99% of Star Wars ships would be pea shooters compared to Trek ships.
As I understand it, the Star Wars side has trash weapons but great shields/infrastructure; and the Star Trek side has good weapons but weak and volatile shields/infrastructure, putting them on a relatively even footing.
There was, of course, that one scene in RotJ where a single ship flying into the bridge of an Executor Class destroyed it, but IIRC they had already lost shields or something like that.
Anyone know how hyperdrives compare to warp drives?
Shouldn't a starship have Thrusters on all sides of it? There's no way to stop in space unless you exert an equal amount of force to propel against your motion...so how do spaceships dock and stuff?
Also, how the hell do you get out of light-speed travel? How do they slow down?
>>63516420

>>63516463
I'd be willing to give some on that point, but the Federation itself is pretty tiny. The Star Wars galaxy would have to be insultingly tiny for them to ever be on any sort of even footing engine wise.
>>63516498

>>63516529

>>63516509

>>63516330
Let's leave technology aside, that's always debatable, and focus on:
>logistics
>willingness
>strategy
1) Logistics. Pretty equal, although from what I've seen ST ships seem a bit faster. They are also more apt at repairing and maintaining the vessels. SW always seemed like more chaotic, which may help them on occasion. Call it a draw.
2)Willingness to commit and fight. There is no doubt that the Empire is willing... but so would be The Cardies, Romulans and even the Federation if push comes to shove. Never mind the Klingons. Draw.
3) Strategy. So, ST has Dukat, Picard, Kirk, Martok, Worf, Sisko, Garak, Riker, Velal... I'll count Weyoun and Chang too. All brilliant in their respective fields, tactical, sabotage, strategy, diplomacy, etc.
SW has The Emperor who manages to get rekt by an inferior rebel fleet, Tarkin, who fucks up the same, The Jedi Council, which is a joke, Grievous, who is an idiot puppet, Dooku, who is also a puppet, Han Solo and Lando, both more like field officers, and Admiral Ackbar, who only notices traps when they are already sprung. They made Jar-Jar both a general and a senator, what more do you want?
Based on strategy and sheer leadership, ST wins. Quickly.

I mean it's Trek, so they're allowed to have an omega 13 device, but it was just used so irresponsibly.
I agree though that the show needed better continuity to really sell that it was traveling. I alway cite the xindi arc from Enterprise as a better season of voyager than voyager. They're effectively on their own, the ship is usually undermatched, it gets damaged, the damage sticks around, and by the end of the season it's limping around with one nacelle, chunks of the hull plating missing.
The enterprise that traveled back in time and was lost in the delphic expanse for generations was another good way to show the evolution of the ship. Retrofitted with all kinds of after market and on standard parts.
Voyager had so many opportunities to be a better show with just minor changes. Shame really.

Is Voyager as bad as people say it is?
I've finished all of the other Treks and VOY is the only one left
>>63519213
this
sometimes I like to imagine that Janeway got one of the parasites early on in the Delta Quadrant. You know, basically the entirety of Voyager is their comeback. They fuck up the entire Delta Quadrant in the name of the Federation. It also explains why she has to keep "the family" together at all costs, yet still get back to the Alpha Quadrant, where she'll eventually fuck up the Federation from within.
>>63519532
just watch it and form your own opinion, sucka
>>63519532
It's not that it's "bad" so much as its just the worse entry. But like star trek V, knowing what a train wreck it was behind the scenes makes it better on repeat viewings.
>>63519532
It's still worth a watch. I'm one of the people who generally rates it as lower than Enterprise, but I still like it. It's an overall enjoyable experience. It's just the worst Star Trek.
>>63519257
I thought the ending waspretty fun tbqh. It at least kind of tied it to the older series and helped underline that it really was a historic time in history that people remembered. It just kind of ran hollow because the show wasn't that great.
>>63519542
>implying that Janeway wants to take Voyager back to Earth
If that's true then why didn't Janeway take Voyager back to the Alpha Quadrant in Threshold, after they found a way home?
Theory rejected.

>>63519712

>>63519713
Actually, scratch that, the JJ Abrams movies are pretty much the only good Star Trek thing made in its whole 50-year life.
>>63519491
It's about 7:12-7:20. Checking back it unfortunately has opening credits over it, but it would still be an amusing thing to have if you can do it.
>>63519609
you always thought they get turned into worms because of the super warp causing some kind of evolution mumbo jumbo, right?
wrong. they get turned into worms by the warp mumbo jumbo because of the parasites they are carrying. It's the human and parasite dna getting fucked up. So why don't they use that tech to get back? Because their plan won't work if half the crew returns in mutated parasite form.
>>63519765
Without Ginger or Marry Anne... and then whats the point. But seriously, I miss a time when at any given moment in the world a gilligan's island rerun was playing. Things were better.
>as your superior officer, im telling you to leave! THATS AN ORDER!
>>63519777
>weak b8
>great trips
>>63519803
I mean seriously, no one ever wondered why 2 humans would evolve or devolve or whatever into fucking worms. These fuckers tampered with the doctor and the ship scanners so he would never reveal their secret and instead come up with bullshit explainations.
It's also why Janeway got so obsessed with 7of9. That parasite is hot for the possibility of taking over a borg drones. Or maybe at that point 7of9 is the only humanoid left on Voyager that can't be infected by the parasites?
>>63519870

I imagine she would be raised in a super redneck laissez-faire way, allowed to just roam around the ship getting into trouble. Then Insaneway would give her an 'education' that essentially indoctrinates her into supporting their genocidal adventure.
