What he is expecting is some kind of realist, gritty, Shakespeare version of the show which never existed. The B-level characters on this show don't create much drama but they are there for fun and friendship. Having an episode without a ton of characters can be exciting and scary. Not "epic", simply stories that are less about the doctor's own personal drama and enemies (Think"Missy gifts me a cyberman army for my birthday" or "My own confession dial is also my own personal hell and the only way back to MY long lost home planet") and more stuff like the stolen earth or the the battle of the trenzalore. Admittedly the doctor is the cause or a large influence in many of those, but it also feels like the universe at large is in his hands, these last two series have really been an exploration of the doctor's inner self, we have hardly seen anything of whatever the fuck the daleks, the cybermen, the sontarans or any of the other countless alien races with giant space armadas have been up to. I'm also not hating on the current arc, I do think the return to Gallifrey was long overdue and it had to be a personal story, I'm just hoping that the next series explores a bit more the whoniverse at large instead of being so focused on the doctor's own internal struggles, which I think have been far too prevalent since Tennant's final series.

From how the confession dial worked, he's only experienced a few days of torture at most, even if he's aware it's actually been far, far longer, he shouldn't be that broken psychologically. I really hate how Moffat shat all over the Time War just for this underwhelming bullshit. The Gallifrey reveal at the end of Heaven Sent was so casual. Like they just expected you to already know the Time Lords set the Doctor up and that he's now on Gallifrey. There was just zero mystery or fanfare, the Doctor never even looked slightly surprised by being back on Gallifrey for the first time in hundreds, possibly thousands, of years after being convinced it's 100% gone for good and unreachable by any means or technology. I hate the idea of her becoming a Time Lord - because it implies a level of importance that Clara doesn't have. She's not a Universal Powerhouse like the Doctor, nor does she have the wit and cunning required to do so.
It's precisely that mindset that finally got her killed. She's just an emotional crutch and motivative factor for The Doctor - she always was, and Moffat's not fooling anyone.
She's just another companion, even with the residual temporal echo thing she has going on. The Tenth Doctor and Rose. I think Rose is one of the most believable characters we've had so far in New Who, with just enough warmth to offset her flaws. Her interactions with 10 felt genuine in series 2, which made for comfy viewing, even when the quality of writing wasn't particularly good. In series 4, though, the whole thing seemed forced, and Rose didn't seem like the same character any more. Not sure what went wrong.
River always annoyed me. I think she's an interesting character in concept, but written very badly, and made even worse by Alex Kingston's pantomine performances (although, to be fair, she had basically nothing to work with). River is basically Moffat's sex fantasy instead of a proper character, and I can't shake that impression whenever she pops up. I didn't buy her increasingly personal relationship with the Eleventh Doctor for one second. Alex Kingston and Matt Smith have no chemistry whatsoever.

Moffat stated that Hell Bent would feature something that would easily divide the fanbase in two.
Something so polarizing would have to have pre-established hints and undertones.
i.e. The Doctor can't be the hybrid - rabid Whovians would go mad with anger, almost as much as Moffat canonically recognizing The Doctor as the Other's Loom.
Clara on the other hand was the self-insert for every teenage girl who watched the show for Tennant and Smith. If Clara is immortalized as a Time Lady, this reaffirms their personal feelings regarding the show - they have an excuse for not liking Capaldi because he's "old" and dropping the show because he's not a young stud. It's because Clara's still there to fawn over.
That's the "big twist", even more so than whatever Moffat has in store with the Time Lords and Rassilon. It's always about Clara with him, and this upcomming episode won't be any different.
To make matters worse, Gallifrey will probably be shunted away again in traditional RTD/Moffat fashion as a one-time thing.
The Golden Age will die just as quickly as it began, and we'll all be here weeping for its return.

They realize that their longest running Sci-Fi series has a consistent gallery of White Men in the lead position.
This is a simple product of the time, and is not racist. However, the BBC are too sensitive about it.
This has been discussed before, but IIRC The BBC wanted to cast either a "Coloured" Man (Most likely Black) or a Woman as the next Doctor after Matt Smith.
However, Moffat loved Capaldi's audition so much, he didn't accept anyone else.

Shit, that's true. Still that or a Black guy automatically opens the floodgates, assuming NuWho survives as a TV series.
I still think the best thing for them to do is to Introduce more fellow Rogue Time Lords for the Doctor to interact with. they can be different races of men and women. They could periodically appear in different episodes with glimpses into their own TARDISes and other technology.
This allows for the diversity encouraged by modern society, while still retaining the core elements of The Doctor as a character.
Hell, we could even have some kind of conflict like a Universal Rat Race between all the Rogue Time Lords as a Series Finale or something.
