I feel the same, but I also feel like S9's main shortcoming compared to other series comes from the two-parter motif. S8 simply has larger variety with its episodes.
Although for different reasons, I'd go as far to say that's its greatest strength too. All the stories this series are far more fleshed out, and it's great to have room for rewarding dialogue.
I've thought every second act this far in has been better than their preceding halves. It makes me wonder how they would have ended up with a standard timeslot.
And I think it says something when the worst episode so far has been the only stand-alone entry.

Honestly I thought Sleep No More was decent. Had a lot of stupid shit, such as the monsters literally being made out of eye gunk, but it also had clever themes that worked well. Ending was legitimately amazing. I don't have a big problem with it being finished without a resolution either, it adds to the atmosphereand I'm sure some Companion Chronicle will wrap it up in the near future.
As far as I'm concerned, Girl Who Died has been the worst episode by a large margin. Sleep No More is just very up and down, which results in a kinda lukewarm 'ehhh'.

Every setup in UtL had a well executed result in BtF. I think the two together have become one of my favorite Twelve stories. My one gripe is I wish they did more with the Fisher King himself.

Well my Trout rankings go 6>4>5 but I can't agree with the rest. Ben and Polly were pretty alright, last time for a while that the companions were modern day down to earth average joes.
