We didn't need to hear the Doctor's theme song when Clara was hanging out of the TARDIS this week. That was completely out of place and took me out of it. Murray still has the problem of being way too loud and bombastic at times, even with the toned down Doctor theme song.

Half of the time I felt like Murray's music was taking me out of a scene because it was too loud, too epic, for what was actually going on. Sometimes it worked but a lot of the time it didn't. Finally got round to watching my preview copy of Heaven Sent. All of the people (that I have seen) on here who have been claiming to have seen the episode are clearly lying.
The cliffhanger was very much in place - it is as followsThe Doctor breaks through the wall (pic related) which will transport him to Gallifrey (he doesn't know where it will lead). He wakes up in a dark room and slowly the lights start to come on, one by one. "Where am I" he asks before he is cut off by the voice of Donald Sumpter as the President: "Welcome Doctor" - The President walks in along with various other time lords/ladies as a stunning new rendition of This Is Gallifrey plays - the Doctor looks on in shock and I'd also say in awe, but it's not for long. The Doctor learns he is on trial for his role in the creation of the Hybrid.
I'm not going to spoil the last line from The President for you all because it's best heard when you watch the episode.

It's often said that Midnight could only be done with the Tenth Doctor, but I think there's a universe where it could have been a First Doctor episode, in that weird, slightly terrifying "What is this place we've landed in and who are these people" mold his early stuff was done. And since the First Doctor era was so rife with what we would now call Doctor Lite stories, you could maybe do it as a The Chase/Feast of Steven-esque one episode adventure in the middle of a larger adventure where the rest of the Tardis Team is off dealing with Daleks or something. Just 1, cut off from his allies and left with humans, trying to be serious, trapped between the need to blend in and the desire to take over the situation.
The more I think about it, the more I'm kinda hyping myself up for it. I just imagined 1 doing one of his trademark line flubs, and the midnight entity repeating it in perfect synch with him. That would be way, way more fucking scary than "Rose Tyler Martha Jones Donna Noble TARDIS! Shamble bobble dibble dooble."
