Well, they got one chance at found footage and this is what they wasted it at. For shame.
>>
I dunno, I kinda liked it.
>>
>>62739055

The opening of the episode gave me really high hopes for what it would be like. The way the guy said he'd "try" to get most of the footage in the right order and how some of it might be missing. I was expecting some nonlinear storytelling and gaps between scenes you'd have to fill in with information from other scenes. It didn't live up to any of that.
>>
>>62739080
It wasn't all bad. Was geniunely surprised by twist in the end, although I should've seen it coming.
But it was pretty boring. Monster explaination was just plain stupid. Design was uninspired. And monsters born of accelerate sleep deserves more.

Doctor Who, no matter how soft, is science fiction. It should not dip into just-so stories aethetics.

Yeah, they're not 21st century movie paced like nuWho, but they're interesting. It's weird how Ian and Susan are the main characters more often than the Doctor. The Doctor doesn't seem to know much or he doesn't want to share. He's not the guy who always has a trick up his sleeve yet. I love how unpretentious it is.

Pandorica Opens and Dark Water were shit.

The Doctor's enemies all combine for the first time in the show and all they can do is a box to trap him in that as it later turn out can be easily opened by a sonic screwdriver anyway. And that's all they do besides luring him there.

Dark Water has dark water exist for no other reason than for "spooky" reveal, Unit is retarded again as apparently even though there's inspections being done by some government office, they later didn't know that 3W was bigger. And tries to make you care about Danny, who's a shit, and her relationship with Clara, that's forced.
>>
So let me get this straight because it's 3 AM and I have no fucking idea what's going on

The scientist guy isn't actually the scientist, but one of the Sandmen that takes his form. Sand-scientists creates a video that can send impulses to activate your eye-boogers to turn them into more Sandmen and uses the Doctor, Clara, and the rescue team as characters in the video to captivate you into watching the entire thing. So that means that nothing in the video actually happened, correct?

But how did the Sandmen know about 12 and Clara? How did they know about the psychic paper, sonic sunglasses, and TARDIS?

That episode sucked. This series has been great but come on. 3/10 for uninspired monster design, lazy storytelling, meaningless sequences. Ambiance and direction were on point, as was Chopra's acting, but this script and monster design couldn't be saved.
>>
>>62740554
They don't need to have merged (although that may be what Gatiss was trying to imply). Anything could happen to their cultures in two millenia.
>>
>>62740373
if the video was enough why did he need to kill anyone and go through all the shit.
Just send out the video through space.
>>
I just think Gatiss is just unnecessarily romanticizing sleep. It's literally a biochemical process. Keeping yourself awake with coffee is one thing, but if there was a machine that could replicate all the functions of sleep in a shorter period of time there wouldn't be anything inherently wrong with that.
You might as well say that people who take vitamin supplements have created an "abomination" because they didn't get their vitamins from food which is just as romanticizable as sleep.

>>
So, just asking for confirmation...
Everything actually happened, some events were manipulated by Rassmussen to captivate the viewers' attention(like turning off the gravity shields or something), right?
So, this was only the first part of the invasion of the Sandmen?
Rassmussen had everything planned out, I have only one question.
How was the found-footage explained in the episode?
I didn't get that part, I understood the Sandmen were blind, but how did that fit in with the others' viewpoints?

i would think that speeding up the process of the sleep cycle could effectivley burn the body out. maybe the body could degrade as well.
I guess it all depends with the explaination on how the machine and it's processes work
>>
For anyone who didn't fully understood what happened(copy-pasted, credits to some guy)
Okay, so a lot of people seem very confused by the plot to this one. Perhaps it's the found footage material that's throwing people off? It's actually fairly straightforward when laid out linearly, but you're only given enough information to solve it towards the end. Anyway, I hope people will give this a squiz and stop getting confused over the plot of the thing.

To whit: The Neptunian scientists were doing some mad science and accidentally sped up the rate of biological development while trying to upgrade their sleep machine. This sped-evolved a race of carnivorous monsters that were made up of human waste -- shed skin and mucous, mostly. The monsters were transmitted by visual devices, represented by a kind of visual glitch.

The monsters killed everyone, and then they kept evolving.

A rescue mission is sent out to the space station, but they've walked into a trap. Some of the dust has taken on the form of Rassmunssen, the lead scientist and the most likely object of the retrieval team. Its aim is to propagate its species.

The Rassmunssen copy is implied to have a psychic connection with the rest of the dust, and an ability to control and shape it. Some of it he uses to record the rescue team, and the rest he uses to terrify and kill them. (The dust seems to be made of whatever was left of the crew, so I'm going to wildly conjecture that the "dust mote cameras" are made up of whatever was left of their eyes.) He does all this in order to create a video that he hopes will go viral -- a "last will and testament" of the crew type of thing that has the hidden activation signal for the dust hidden inside it. Anyone who watches the video while also having been in the sleep machine will become a monster.

He then runs off to compile all this data into a believable form -- but part way through the recording he's interrupted. He confesses to what he's done, partly, and then Commander Nagata of the rescue team shoots him. As he's actually a dust monster this has no effect on him, so he instead pretends to be dead, and then gets up and finishes the recording after they've left. The Rassmunssen gestalt creature dissolves into nothing when the gravity shield fade but manages to send out his message just in time. The end.

Ditch all of the gimmicks to explain how there can be cameras, just play it straight with security cameras and camera helmets

If the sleep machines have to stay a thing, just make the machines convert people into some kind of undead zombie thing instead (no crazy scifi gimmick, just lifeless and aggressive with some kind of super strength to overpower people with)

that's it really. Maybe a scene about airlocks failing so someone dies by being sucked out into the vacuum of space

It's very straightforward. Gender describes your biological equipment to reproduce. It's not about some sort of social conformity.

People who feel they must mutilate their own genitals to fit in or be accepted are unwell and should be helped.

>>
>>62742217

Not in modern terms they aren't
Sex is biological, gender is societal and you get to choose whether you identify as a male or female regardless of what your genitals are

It's bullshit since really biological sex is the only thing that matters, but what can you do
>>
>>62742145

This isn't true. Stop with the fake spoilers.
This is what really happens:
Heaven Sent takes place in a castle called the Genesis Orbit, which is the promised land/garden from Series 8. It's a Gallifreyan space vessel. Because of time distortions, there are three twelfth Doctor's present. One in his velvet, one in his hoodie costume, and one in his series 8 costume. Gallifrey is found at the end of episode 11, and the Time Lords intend to sentence the Doctor to the chronolock chamber, which is the death sentence on Gallifrey, a device capable of erasing the accused from existence. He gets out of the punishment by revealing what the hybrid is, and it was him who created it when he was trying to break the regeneration cycle on Trenzalore. The "no sir, all 13" scene is also in episode 12. Clara does die in Episode 10, but she's in Ep12 as one of the doctors hallucinations, pretending she's still there. Ep12 ends with Gallifrey being restored, and the doctor being made president. But he runs away again. The final shot is the doctor in the tardis remembering Clara as he hears her voice. She says "run you clever boy, and remember" in relation to The Doctor running from Gallifrey once more. He smiles to himself tearfully before saying "oh, Clara, my Clara. How could I possibly forget?". The credits play with Clara's theme over them
>>
Oh boy, is it "make up fake spoilers" time again?

>>
>>62743338
No you stop, because Clara doesn't die in Face the Raven. She's leaving the Doctor behind because the Raven got him. That's why she's asking herself to to be brave. But she can't, breaks into tears runs back to the Doctor to tell him a final goodbye and Rigsy takes her out of the street.

There's a dilemma at the end of the episode in which The Doctor is trapped in the trap street. The only way to get him back is to use the eye of hades from episode 6 again, to re-open the portal. But it requires a death to activate. Ashildr taunts Clara with "what would the doctor do?" which results in Clara giving her own life. Clara becoming so much like the Doctor is her tragedy.

Despite her shock festive return, Doctor Who , played by Peter Capaldi, still faces being lonely this Christmas because River doesn’t recognise his new reincarnation and keeps romancing other fellas.

The lovelorn Timelord ends up chasing River around the universe in a vain bid to to win over her affections.

Show-runner Steven Moffat admitted that the Christmas special wasn’t very festive - but there’d be “lots of kissing” and flirting as Doctor Who turns into a saucy romcom.

Peter said: “It is a lighthearted fun thing River doesn’t recognise the Doctor and he gets upset because she is flirting and doing all sort of stuff with people.“

“She simply cannot be persuaded that he is the former Matt Smith/David Tennant/Christopher Eccleston - so there is lots of kissing, but not between River and the doctor!

But when we first meet River in the library, she talks about "Her" Doctor looking 'so much older'. I would have presumed that was Capaldi.

I think she meant his eyes. Matt maybe looks younger but he had older eyes. At least in the BS sense. Also when Moffat wrote that scene with River Tennant was still suppose to be The Doctor for 5th series.

Aaaalso, she probably met Tennant off screen ;)

None of these reasons are very convincing. But I don't necessarily think they had a full arc plotted out for her at that stage anyway. They certainly can't have foreshadowed the casting of a new Doctor. Even so - it would've been something very easy to have worked around, had they felt like it.
>>
>>62744055
According to moffat, picnicking at asgard was with Ten. I always took that to mean she'd had at least one doctor, but I can see how it would fit that she'd still think it was Ten, since she wouldn't know how much Ten knew about their past when they actually did get around to picnicking at asgard, so she wouldn't necessarily have asked him about the Byzantium.

So this week was just Dead Space:Doctor Who edition agreed?

3 bro. Karn, wherever the Maldovarium is and Skaro.

That's exactly what I thought when they were going towards the abandoned ship. Opening scene was pretty much exactly the same as the Dead Space opening scene.

Last night's episode is probably going to be the weakest in the series

Take that bait back to /g/ you know there is not nearly enough good TV to fill most peoples free time

Like fucking what? What could I possibly do between work that won't make me tired for work other than TV and video games?

And don't say read cause a good book has not come out in almost a decade its all slice of life and romance bullshit
>>
>>62744313
the found footage was the one bad spot on this episode. I appreciate that they tried to write it into the story itself, but it didn't work. They just missed the boat on that idea because Found Footage has already entered into cliché and doesn't really work any more (Only smart use of FF in last 5 years has been the film "Unfriended").

But even despite that, it was good. The pacing was spot on, the cinematography was brilliantly low key and a throwback to classic Who. The doctor wasn't being led around by the cockchain by Clara nor pratfalling and clowning his way through agonising forced anachronisms ("I has sunglasses! In the dark ages! Hurrr!"). He was the most Docterly yet.

Also, men in shitty rubber suits as the bad guys.

Take up whittling, play music, read a book (you've not read all the good ones so shut up), shoot guns and cook and eat the thing you hit, make a shack in the mountains, become a rapper, do stock car racing, make a potato clock, train your dog to do neat tricks, take up contract bridge, join a yoga class, become a hypnotist.

When is Neil Cross writing another episode? I rewatched Rings of Akhaten and Hide today, and realized that I had forgotten how they're full of exactly the kind of weird stuff I would like to see more of in Doctor Who.
Akhaten wasn't great, but it was better than what could have been, considering that it was a rush job written because another script had fallen through at the last moment.

Fan service is fan service. You can giggle into your onesie and reblog your e-friends' tumblrs about it if you want. But it doesn't make any of it actually witty.

It's the equivalent of a stand-up doing a hack routine about the next town over.

"So, I was in SHELBYVILLE last night..."
"BOOO!"
"....What's THAT place all about?!"
"HAHAHHAHAHAHHA! It's so true!!"

It gets a Pavlovian reaction out of you. But it's still hack.

If they had to be pitted against each other, which NuWho Doctor would come out on top?

Hard mode: do this for every Doctor.
