it went against conventional choice to cast someone like Keaton. the studio wanted somone like mel gibson or peirce borsnan, but Keaton was able to tap into that darker side of his personality to shine.

>We will never see the Batman movie with Mel Gibson and Willem Dafoe.
>>62645336
it was also Jon Peters who wanted Keaton cause he has the eyes of a killer, Burton wanted Sammy Davis jr for the Joker but based Peters wanteed Nicholson
Ed Wood was his best film to be honest.
Burton tried to redo beetlejuice formula where the titular character isn't in it that much but how he's the driving force behind all the characters but Jack really overshadows him
Keaton now could play joker. His manic energy would be a good match for the character
Why didn't Keaton played both the Batman and Joker?
It could have been wonderful.

shit, sammy davis could have been really good actually
>>62645459
>we will never see Jim Carrey play the Joker
Such a waste.

Ed Wood and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure are flawless films. Batman, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice and Mars Attacks are all great.
Crazy to think about how hard he's fallen when you look at all of his great works in a row.
>>62645677
he basically played the Joker in Batman Forever and poor Tommy Lee could not estand his buffonery
>>62645573
>>62645692
>forgetting about Big Fish
>>62645750
He could not sanction his buffoonery.
>>62645692
>Pee-Wee
>Flawless
Haven't seen that one, sounds like kiddie/nostalgia shit to me so I never saw it as a movie that could be considered "great".
Then again, South Park BLU is one of my favorite films ever, so I could be wrong about my judgement of the cover.

It's what I like most about Keaton's version of Batman. He's comfortable and smooth as Batman, but is socially awkward as fuck when he has to pose as Bruce Wayne.

You're wrong. It's not a kid's movie, it was written by Phil Hartman. It's literally flawless and if you do end up seeing it and want to debate that I gladly would.
Ed Wood is a hipster choice. It's not too great, just 'cool.' It has a serious tone that makes people respect it more.
>>62646005
I take it you're not an aspiring filmmaker.
>>62645750
>tommy lee not standing anyone elses buffoonery in that fucking movie
>>62646005
>Ed Wood
>Serious tone

I didn't forget about Big Fish.
That movie fucking blew chunks.

>Sammy Davis jr for the Joker
good thing /pol/ didn't exist yet in 1989, they would have lost their shit
>>62646578
Racial tensions weren't as high or bad back then.
I have a pet theory most of /pol/ isn't really racist, but probably internet-libertarian/utopian/colorblind more than anything else, which explains why they get annoyed by SJW's increasibly visible reverse fascism in general.
>>62646415
Thank you. I don't understand why everyone on /tv/ praises it so highly, I feel like I must have watched a different movie.
>>62645336
you dont have to be based to know Nicholson will be amazing
>>62645279
Batman 89 > Batman Begins > TDK > Batman Returns > TDKR
>Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter as Thomas and Martha Wayne
>Based
>>62645677
>we will never see young mark hamill play the joker

I think he could still do it today honestly
I'm kind of hoping this new Star Wars movie revives his film career
