In a weird way I actually dont get mad at people who prioritize taking photos of themselves or their friends while traveling as long as they arent missing out on account of it.

When you are older, sure you will always have the memories of those places, but you always seem to regret not having more photos of you and the people you care about in those moments.

Obviously this doesnt mean every self absorbed selfie douche is justified. Just my thought process.
>>
>>1084782
I've thought about this more recently. I usually travel alone and theres no much in terms of memory there, but when ypure with people you should capture that. When i look back at my photos of beautiful or exrraordinary things its like hey this is neat, nice place. But you dont feel or remember anything, you could just as easily look up that thing on google. Also, natural wonders and old architecture, etc arent going anywhere in your lifetime, but people and moments with them go. Photos with people will help you remember that time.

I'm not good at writing but i hope i explained my thoughts well enough
>>

Hey guys, even though I am only 19, my year travelling around South East Asia with a bunch of other white people, getting drunk, having promiscuous sex and basically being seen by the locals as a cash cow really opened my minds eye.

>>1085076
That's because the OP used that formula
>>
>>1084782
Yeah I've had a bit of a u-turn on taking photos too. When I did my first few trips I took a really moralistic stance and refused to take any photos at all because I thought that somehow that would detract from actually 'experiencing' whatever it was I was doing. Then, even just one year later I'd try and remember the trip and found that I was missing huge chunks of it because I had nothing to trigger the memories.

Now I try and take at least one picture of every landmark, beautiful view, or anything I encounter that I think is cool/different. If I've made some friends and gone for a day out it's nice to take a group picture too, because we inevitably part ways and don't stay in touch. That said, once you've got the photo you should put your phone/camera away and return to the experience itself. It's about finding a balance.
>>
>>1084932
>tfw I unironically slept in a bathroom cubicle for six hours because my flight arrived at midnight and I didn't want to pay for a hotel room for that night

Uncomfortable experience 2bh, kept thinking that if I fell asleep the cleaners would think someone had died in there and break the door down or something like that.

Not that guy but isn't this the norm? Usually when get it out of your system you want to settle down a little. Or you've seen that it isn't that much of a lifestyle. It's the worst for the people who haven't done it when they were young for whatever reason and now when they're older they want to do all of the stuff they missed out on.

I thought most airport would just let you sleep out in the open at the gate. Just pretend you got there really early for your flight.

side note as a hotel manager anytime someone was in a public bathroom for a long time they were always masturbating. if it makes you feel weirder they just assumed you were in there for a marathon session.

I met a guy in a hotel in Tokyo

>I was in India for the last 3 years and this is the first time seeing a white person since then
>I was living with the locals in some obscure villages
>Oh wow a TV, I haven't seen one of those in years
>I feel like traveling has made me so much of a better person
>this is my 17th consecutive year of traveling

I mean, he was an okay guy after a while but holy shit, that was the first time I met one of those real travelers IRL and it was exactly like those descriptions in the threads
>>
>>1085391
They actually had signs up saying no sleeping, which surprised me because it was in tolerant Iceland. That said, I'm pretty certain that I would have been fine and they wouldn't have moved me on or anything like that, there were other people who did it. The reason I went for the bathroom is because I was travelling alone and I'm a bit paranoid about my security - if any one of my bags had been stolen then I'd have been completely fucked, and I was uncomfortable taking the risk.
>>
>>1085591

I like taking a lot of photos when I travel. I also go back and look at them a lot. For me, seeing a photo brings me right back to that place, whether it's of a famous monument, a pretty flower or a friend.
>>
>>1086053
Yea but it's quite obvious what they were trying to get at.
>Being the only tourist there.
Or at least not as much.
>>1086062
Not that guy, I just find the best thing is to find a balance. The one thing I try not to do is trying to get the "perfect" picture. Wasting too much time thinking about it. I'd rather just get a few pictures here and there and try to take a few of everyone in it. Just so I can remember who was in the trip and if I can bring forward what I felt than and there.
