A pokémon should have an identifiable texture. Scales, fur, metal, slime, doesn't matter, so long as it has one. Bruxish does this. Tapu Koko does not.
A pokémon should not look like it's constantly angry. Bruxish is ugly, but not angry. Contrast Tapu Koko.
A pokémon should be something you can chill out and have fun with. Bruxish might not be the most pleasant-looking thing, but you can imagine keeping one in a tank in your room. Contrast Tapu Koko, which doesn't exactly look like it understands the concept of love.
But, most importantly of all? A pokémon should have an identifiable 3D shape. You should be able to tell whether one part is in front of or behind another, and what it would look like from a different angle. Bruxish looks like it could exist in 3D space, whereas Tapu Koko is just a goddamned scribble.
