I can somewhat understand killing the poisonous snakes on your property if you have livestock, dogs, small children, or feeble folk, or if you relocate one and it keeps coming back to live under your porch or something, but naw. People in the last town I lived in hated the jackrabbits that ate up their flowers and plants, but also killed the shit out of the rattlers and coyotes that ate them, so the jackrabbit population was absurd. Some people will at least skin and eat the rattlers they kill, so it's not a total waste but that's unfortunately very rare.
Me and a buddy went golfing one day and we saw a youngish rattler stretched out sunning himself all hunky-dory on the back side of a teebox. We alternated watching it while the other teed off and called it in to the clubhouse. The groundskeeper came out and killed it, but the group behind mine took it home to clean and cook up. Sad that they killed it, but as nice and healthy as it looked, it was probably good eating.
My dad is one of those "kill all the snakes" people and has been scared shitless of all snakes since childhood. I, on the other hand, think they're neat. I wouldn't mind keeping a little corn snake or something but I think my cat would break into the enclosure and try to eat the thing. She's cray.
