Taking pride in the character is fine, but Aaron also seems to place a lot of psychological weight on having him around and so I suspect any intimations that would give the people who want the character gone an ounce of leverage will always be met with denial. As for not toning him down, his latter two appearances sure were brief, and his last one had a completely different and way more passive characterisation, so I'm not sure I agree. Aaron even seems to have left himself an "out" to change the character at will, since he's recently said that there's many different versions of Marx running around.
I don't think he'll ever pull him from the comic, though. he feels like Aaron regards him as some kind of lucky charm, all other things put aside.

I was referring to the furry aspect - even before /co/, he had a high furry quotient in his fandom. Even the GoComics guys are at least 50 percent furry, to go from avatars and handles (and ones who are fellow creators of anthro comics) and a lot of them appear to be holdovers from the even older zetaboards forum fanbase. It's not embarrassing to admit you tried to make the Rhino gal pudgy-cute to furries and other people who like her anyway. Heck, Aaron's been able to steer clear of a reputation for being a complete furry anyway.

I have read the GoComics comments, so I envy you a little. Sometimes they spot useful details, but the commentary there is more often than not mind-meltingly braindead. Half of them still think Holly's "I lost the baby!" comment on the clock tower was a reference to a child of hers and Wally's that she lost while confined, for instance. Meeting his /co/ fanbase must have been a bit of a culture shock for Aaron.

I think he came to anthro late, so he's well-balanced with a furry streak alongside an appreciation for more classical beauty and an additional thing for the heavier girls. I think each of his areas of skill informs and enhances the others and that's why his character art is so appealing.
