Oof, hmm, I guess I'd just base it on my real personality. Kinda of an aloof loner, the kind of person who goes to work at some big business firm every day then comes home and shitposts online, but also wishes he had more friends.
I started researching stoats since that's what I rolled.
>The stoat reputedly immobilises prey such as rabbits by mesmerising them with a "dance"
I kinda already wanted to fuck the bunny. I guess I'm destined for it now.
>>2711445
I rolled again and got antelope! It seems that long-horned ungulate is my fate; so I went with the gembok I first got.

>>2711524

Stoats are about a tenth the size of a rabbit. I don't think rape is a practical possibility.
>>2711529
how would the ladies NOT fall for that
>>2711529
I think I saw something about too, but the word it used was "confuse" rather than "mesmerize." Still though, it's pretty neat that that actually worked well enough to become an evolutionary trait.
"Hey Frank! Why the hell aren't you starving like the rest of us? Those rabbits are way too fast!"
"Oh yeah, man, I just sorta dance for them before I go for the kill. Works every time."

ITT: Weaver continues to seduce us all with his mysterious, antelope ways
>>2711633

>>2711603
Stoats used to hunt bunnies by just chasing them until they got too tired to keep out of distance, then they just leaped aboard and went to work, since stoats have hugely more stamina than rabbits. I guess the same approach could work in modern times. Though I think sexy dancing, bottomless stamina, and that sexy belly fur would be enough of a draw that it wouldn't be necessary.

I love the sense of depth it can convey with the varying opacity, but I feel it makes everything too messy, and it plays into my inability to know when to stop detailing. I'm trying to move toward a more minimalist, purposeful techniques than "scribble until something comes out".

I know how it feels man, I spent hours writing a short pointless story about Nick and Judy snuggling and got a single comment in response. Weaver waggles his dick in the general direction of a stylus and pure magic comes out and he gets a hundred responses.
But I can look at it like that or I can look at the - let's see - 119 unique viewers to the story, and assume that maybe one in ten got a smile out of it, then hey I made a dozen people happy. If I tried to achieve that the normal way my hand would have cramped up around the sixth handjob.

It is very hard to draw using a mouse. If you don't have access to a tablet, you'd likely do better scribbling on paper and photographing or scanning it.
As for software more advanced than paint, I've always been a fan of GIMP although it can be a little difficult to figure out. It is free though.
>>2711843
That makes sense. The reason I enjoy using a messier brush like that is so that i can push and pull lines more fluidly since I find it a little hard to lay down clean lines accurately but hate inking. It makes it feel more like a paint brush even though I'm using it as my main sketching brush.
But like I said, I only recently started using that brush and I've just accepted it's going to be a little messier.

I feel so guilty. I've had a drawing tablet for months and it just collects dust.
I really should figure out how to draw but I don't understand how people get their strokes to look so clean. Mine always come out jaggedy and bleh.
>>2711940
Can't help you there I'm afraid. I got an old Wacom one years ago, but I don't know what's come out since then and what is considered 'entry level' nowadays.

>>2711952
Practice. Your lines aren't going to be great the first time around, they never are. but you need to push through that. Long, quick, curved strokes and don't keep the movement at just your fingers, use your arm.
>>2711952
Practice and using a stabilizer setting if the program you have has one. Also, draw larger than you need to, since shrinking it down will reduce the look of wobbly lines.
>>2711952
You and me both. I might have lost the stylus for mine while moving too. I'll find out as soon as I unpack everything but I sure don't remember packing it.
>>2711952
I fucking know that feel, bro.
I kind of resort to stopping my drawings at the "sketchy as fuck" stage, because any time I try to actually have some sort of lineart, I feel like I lose the whole energy of the sketch and have shitty-looking lines anyway.
>>2711982
This anon speaks truth. Use your whole arm, not just your fingers or wrists. If your arm doesn't feel like hell after drawing you're doing it wrong.
>>2711871
I recommend Krita if you have a tablet, and if you have no money like me.
Before that though, if you really think your skill is lacking, and really want to improve fundamentals, then you should stick with pencil and paper.
>>217200
And thats fine anon! 'Sketchy-as-fuck' drawings as you have put it can work really well when executed properly.

>>2711940
I use a Huion 610 because it's a lot cheaper than Wacom Tablets of similar size, but the drivers that run them can be wonky. Wacom Intuos draw is a good starting place if you want to go that way though.
For drawing programs my personal favorite is Clip Studio Paint because it's super customizable but it may be intimidating for people not used to picking up new software very easy. If you know how to use Photoshop at all though it shouldn't be too hard to pick up. Sai Painter is a favorite of a lot of artists but it's abandonware and a bit more expensive than Clip Studio Paint. There's also Photoshop but despite being the standard for high end artists I don't know if I would really recommend it since it's not really meant for drawing even if it's used that way. There are so many little quality of life things that make other programs more appealing in my opinion. If money isn't a factor or you're going to pirate one anyway I'd suggest Clip Studio Paint.

>>2711952
If you're just learning to draw, don't start with a tablet. It's like drawing on glass. Shit's way harder.
Most people you see doing digital work turn on tons of stabilizer-y shit to compensate. I'd recommend against that, as it doesn't force you to improve your motor skills, but keep in mind it IS harder than paper, Ctrl+Z be damned.
>>2712112
YOU CAN DO IT
>>2712171
this is really going to make me cry... fucking hell.
thank you.
>>2712150
I don't think it's that bad of an idea to start with a tablet. The biggest hurdle in learning to draw is gaining the motivation to draw every day even when you don't really feel like it. And the skills using a tablet transfer to pen and pencil.
As for stabilization, turning on even high stabilization isn't going to make your lines look less shitty when you draw them. The only real reason that stabilization exists is because tablets are so 1 to 1 in their transfer of information to the computer you end up getting jitter that wouldn't be noticeable on paper using a pen.
The only time stabilization would make a real difference is in inking if you use that technique where you take long but slow strokes over your lines. For the purpose of just normal drawing maxed stabilizer is just going to annoy you when you're trying to draw.

I don't particularly care for the couple... but that's really quite cute.
I've been screwing around with watching 3D Blu-rays with Red/Blue glasses in VLC, and it made me think; how many of you are going to get the 3D blu-ray of Zootopia, and how many of you actually have the equipment to watch it on a 3D TV?
>>2712222
I've always thought 3D was dumb. Not counting VR stuff, that shit's cool.
>>2712222
we have a 3D BD player, with a 3D tv to boot. But I honestly don't care for it. I pre-ordered the regular BD.
I WANT TO STICK IT IN JUDY'S FOXHOLE!
>>2712222
3D has always been a meme, a pretty shit one at that.
>>2712222
I have the setup to watch it, but haven't used more than the month or so after I got it. I just came with the tv I got.

An important part of this is attitude.
You listened to advice, you're willing to learn, and you didn't just shut things down or run off. On the internet, that's not always common.

Paper has resistance though. It has an actual feedback loop. Tablet does not. It's like saying you can learn to rollerblade after learning to ice skate. You can, but why.
I value motor control over any advantages the tablet brings me. Learning to draw was hard enough, I can't imagine my babbyart self overcoming the slip and slide of the tablet's surface as well. It'd just be another obstacle I'd try to fill in with technological 'solutions'.
In short, it's more finnicky and more powerful than a stick of charcoal and a slab of regurgitated tree, and I'd argue you should wring as much skill out of the simpler medium before moving on to the persnickity one.
>>2712290
I thought it would be cool, but it wears off really quickly. Games in 3D were better, but you forget that it's even on after about half an hour. It could just be me, though.
>>2712222
I can't stand 3D. Always kinda ruins the colors, to me, and I've never seen a single film where the 3D brought anything to the story.
>>2712297
I understand what you're getting at but the important thing is to find motivation in drawing. Being part of a community like contributing in a general makes it a lot easier to get in the habit of making art. There are advantages and disadvantages of drawing in both mediums but I don't think the difference is big enough to overcome the hard part which is the motivation to draw in the first place.
Also Wacom tablets are textured so that they do give a little bit of resistance while drawing. I know it's not the same and learning to draw while looking at a screen is difficult but it's not like learning to draw on a tablet isn't going to give you transferable skills when drawing in a sketchbook. I do both regularly.

>Always kinda ruins the colors
Even the theater 3D they have now? Anaglyph sure by the theater stuff just dims things, the colors look fine (at least to me)
>>2712322
I like the depth, but I hate how it comes at the cost of only being able to focus properly on one part of the scene. Looking away from the focal point seems to cause everything to get out of whack.
Feeling like I could reach out and touch the bun isn't worth losing my ability to explore with my eyes.

I've had an intruos3 and a cintiq. The intruos didn't have texture worth a damn. Maybe they've changed things?
Regarding community: get a scanner. You'll want one anyway.

Very nice /trash/, very nice
Can't sleep, so decided to dink around on my tablet even though I shouldn't with a sharp nib. I've had a Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen and Touch for 6 or 7 years and it still works just as well as the day I got it, but I'm looking to upgrade to a Cintiq when I get the funds.

This is why I love Wacom over most other tablets, some have the same texture but most are far too smooth and the pen slips around too much for me to feel really comfortable with.
As for digital compared to traditional, I think it's important for any artist in this day and age to be familiar with both. You can have a preference but not at least being capable of both is a huge minus that you're gonna have compared to all the other artists online. Learn initially through traditional art and once you have a basic grasp on the fundamentals and know that you want to pursue more in art invest in a good quality tablet, don't skimp on it, you're gonna use it a lot! The initial disconnect (at least for the non-screen tablets since I can't really speak for the screen ones) is jarring. It takes quite some time to get used to not watching your hand but it does get better, especially if you do mechanical practice. What I've found is that when working in one form for a long stretch of time, I can switch to the other form and have learned a lot for both. The biggest problem I have with digital is that (for whatever reason) I build bad habbits a lot easier in digital, so I have to constantly be aware of any and try to actively fix them.

Brilliant.
>>2712361
I don't know really, I used a wacom bamboo from 4 or so years ago when I was first really getting into drawing regularly and it had some texture. I used it so much that by the time I bought a new one the texture was completely rubbed off. The huion tablet I use now doesn't have any texture but I never found the texture to be that appealing anyway. As for scanning stuff, that's such a pain, I've always hated scanning things in.
>>2712389
Its interesting, your digital art is a lot 'cleaner' but the shading always looks 'fake'. The pen and paper art obviously is more messy but the shading seems to give the images more depth
>>2712383
It's the whole trash thing. Everyone who doesn't fit in ends up here. Including artists and potential artists who get fed up with the mods elsewhere.

(continued)
The best ways to learn are through figure drawing, still life's, and perspective drawings. If you can learn to do all of those things then there's not really anything you can't draw or at least use the skills from those to learn how to draw it. I'm still far from being proficient in any of those things, but I like to think I have a basic understanding and it helps when you have to solve a problem and instead of just trying random stuff over and over again you can just identify the problem and understand what techniques to use to fix it.
I'd also recommend that, at least when you're starting out, construct everything, even the most basic of shapes! You might think, "Oh this characters eyes are very simple I'll just draw what I think they should look like" but I urge you to construct the full form of the eyes and sockets and everything! JUST CONSTRUCT IT ALL. Eventually you'll get to a point where you can get away with shortcuts, and I do it myself pretty often especially in sketches, but I really shouldn't!!!
>>2712409
I know what you mean, but I think it tends to be that because the shading's smoother digitally there's a lot of space that looks very similar, the sketch traditional shading makes it appear to have more depth than it really does, if that makes sense. Still something I need to work one though!

So this is what I can scribble in the little amount of time before I need to go to bed. I always pictured my squirrel as something out of animal crossing.

>>2712435
I'll definitely second constructing everything. I feel like I wasted a lot of time in retrospect because I thought that doing that stuff was a waste of time at one point. It took me way too long to realize that even artists who don't use construction lines can basically see them without drawing them because they used them so much when learning that it's become second nature.
I also think that some lessons are easier to learn at different times for people though. At the time I think I was just really not ready to learn that way yet. But if you want to actually learn how to do things you can't delude yourself into thinking that you are going to be able to eyeball things especially when you're starting out.

Definitely, you can buy a how to draw manga book, follow the directions perfectly and draw whatever character it tells you to make but you're still not a mangaka. The issue is not the final product, but rather how you got there, and whether or not you can do it consistently, so learning proper construction is a huge help in being able to consistently make the shapes you want. I definitely used shortcuts and symbols way too much for the longest time and even though I've been drawing my whole life I only really started understanding it a few years ago. I hated practicing perspective before, but now I enjoy it a lot because it's a challenge that I have to actually think about instead of just feeling it out intuitively. My current struggle is rendering things, and it doesn't help that I don't really have software like SAI or Corell Painter that work really well for it.

Don't let weaver fool you. He's a better artist than he lets on.
