I went with feathers. It was a tough choice, but feathers really make burd cuddling work. Dem soft warm downy and oh-so-ruffleable feathers underneath the top layer of silky smooth and colorful feathers.
Second was wings, followed by beak, then claws/talons. All of them are fairly close though. Imo birds are best as a complete package.

It's not really a cop out since I have well defined reasons for why I say the feathers are the most important feature. Wings are also an extremely close second. It took me some thought to put feathers on top.

I chose wings. When it comes to my favorite avian character art, the wings have not been replaced by arms. Wings drive home the fact that that is a bird. I would love a me-sized bird squeezing me with its pillowy goodness.

Drawing it correctly, on the other hand... Artists like to draw it flat and vertical, or horizontal and the whole body width wide like a joker smile. It's rare to find art where the artist clearly used a good reference.
