They were planned for Divinity 2 Eco Draaconis along with some others as starting races, but due to time constraints, only human was used. As well an an entire city and a major ending segment with RTS elements if I remember right.

So, how many of you guys played Lair, and what did you guys think of it? I remember being pretty hype for it initially, but that was with really limited info and a very non-indicative trailer. Until they showed other stuff I thought it was going to just be about dragons, but then it turned out they tacked on a whole bunch of bullshit along with the awful controls that made me really hate it by the time I played.

Your first dragon gets killed, and then you get a new dragon minutes later like it isn't even a big deal, even though the game says you are meant to have had a strong, life-long bond. The controls were the topper that just made me dislike it, even though I had finished it, as it wasn't that long anyway.

From what I've read, legless lizard are different from snakes in that they have visible earholes, an unforked tongue, and tiny vestigial legs/leg flaps. They're also genetically more related to geckos and skinks than they are to snakes.

"Quick" progress report before I fall over from exhaustion. Maybe this time the thread will still be alive when I wake up again (thanks to whoever reposted last time).
Honestly didn't get as far as I was hoping to, and wasted a lot of time in regex hell, but at least now the back end should be "fully" operational. It now supports multiple checks for flags, with simple AND and OR, showing the value of a flag as text, setting and showing notes (think naming stuff), a roll for random events, loading/saving games, with a bunch more code for what's to come. If all goes to plan I should have image support and user content up and running tomorrow.
Then I just need to finish the damn story I keep putting off.

I don't know how long I spent trying to split a string before and after every word that started with a special character. Figured I could use look around, variable length and the end-of-previous-match boundary, but apparently they just don't work together. Look around in general seems way more fiddly that I originally though. It's like having a huge toolbox where half of the tools just refuse to work together.
Ended up splitting the string on " " and punctuation instead, and just checking it word for word. Not like performance is an issue in a text-based game anyway.
Off to sleep now, just needed to backup the code for my peace of mind. Scaly dreams.

While I'd love to see it finished and fully fleshed out, I have very little faith in these Kickstarter / early access / support the continuing development of X with no guarantees of X ever being finished or even released. Doesn't Breeding Ground (Breeding something, anyway) pull in like $25k a month or more on Patreon, with the game having had pretty much 0 progress in over a year? I played it a bit waaay back, and then when I tried it out again recently it actually had less scenes (with new animations, but still) that before. There are so many grande projects out there, very few of which will ever see the light of day. Hell, not a single 3D survival game on Steam early access has been finished yet, and many of those have proper, experienced developers behind them.

With both graphical fidelity and laziness of game devs ever increasing, I'm honestly surprised that Bethesda and ZeniMax haven't yet turned the beast races into glorified humans in both Skyrim & Scrollocaust, so there's one thing they can still do right at least. Though some proper claws would be nice, I honestly couldn't give a fuck about the lack of Morrowind legs. Clawed feet will do.
Really though, going by pic related I'd implore more people to go outside their comfort zone when it comes to fantasy.

They all make good points there, but I can't help but see a split between fans on what kind of fantasy elder scrolls game they want.
There's a camp that wants a gritty, robust fantasy game where everyday is a life and death struggle, think Skyrim 100X.
Then there's people who want a high fantasy "hero" type game where there's magical cities, crazy wizards and awesome artifacts.
I don't think the Elder scrolls alone can make everyone happy.

If anything I got the idea that those people in the screenshots came more from a Game of Thrones background or something. In fact I'd say the game came out at the right time to secure that kind of audience.
Given that Skyrim was practically mainstream, but a lot of the established lore is pretty batshit crazy, I'm wondering what's going to happen to the overall tone of TES. In every game so far it's been quite different, but at least you can attribute that to the various provinces of Tamriel and the state they're in at the time.

Knowing Beth the latter would be the "evil" choice and she'd just run out the closest door, teleport back to her spawnpoint, and refuse to speak the the player again.
Whereas the former, the "good" option, would have her give you an item as a reward, run out the closest door, teleport back to her spawnpoint, after which speaking to her would just repeat a thank you dialog.
Unless I can go Shrek and convince her to stay argonian and marry me, I'm out.

Like there were a few non-blatantly evil quests in skyrim where all of your options to actually complete it are grey or evil. It kind of annoyed me as a good character, but I appreciated it.

Beth lost it after Oblivion, in my opinion. FO3, Skyrim, FO4 are all fun from the fucking-around perspective, but the writing is pretty awful for most of it. I've stopped holding out hope for anything better.

You can only spend so long trying to dumb down your writing until it becomes the norm. Oblivion actually had me invested in the quests, and I kept playing because I wanted to see what would happen next. There were also unique quests that kept surprising me, like the village invaded by "trolls". But in Skyrim I felt like I was playing an MMO - get quest, go kill X / fetch Y, turn in quest for reward. I got bored so quickly.

In Skyrim, there's cultural bias against magic. It was a lot more prevalent in Oblivion and Morrowind because those cultures are more permissive of it.
I'm actually thinking that a quest mod involving a woman transformed into an Argonian wouldn't be too hard to make, you could essentially partner up with her to make it through some dungeon or something, and then at the end you get the choice of whether to give her the cure or sabotage the cure.
If you sabotage the cure she shows up outside of Windhelm at the Assemblage and says something really flustered trying to hide the fact that she's been sleeping around with Argonian guys.

Sooner, even. Since iron dagger spam got patched, all it takes is getting transmutation (iron to gold to gold rings) from an iron mine ran by bandits that's very close to Whiterun.
Fucking hell, Smithing was a mistake. You should not be able to craft top-tier gear or upgrade mere Steel gear even beyond that. It takes a ton of fun out of getting the good stuff of the boss chest at the end of a dungeon.

I will always insist that Oblivion has the best sidequests in the series, or at least it had some fun ideas. It's a shame it runs like ass even after all the performance/stability mods, problems like potato faces and level scaling were remedied by mods.

I had some ideas for TF mods for Skyrim, like slowly turning into an animated wooden mannequin by mages for their use, but I don't have the technical know-how, especially if the player's race data and body/head shape is to be preserved

While I haven't played Daggerfall (or Arena), Oblivion absolutely wins out in the quest department. Morrowind had a more fantastical world, but that wasn't so much down to the writing as the environmental and creature design. The only thing Skyrim has going for it is a slightly less buggy engine.

Skyrim's engine is still really the same thing though, and some little bits like adding in custom animations now pretty much requires Fore's framework. And it's been what, ten years since Oblivion was released? They're really going to have to let go for something else at some stage.
What Skyrim does have going for it though is an art direction that allows modders to help achieve vastly superior visual fidelity. It's just that, after all of these mods which try their best to make something out of the game's melee FPS combat and add all these other nice touches and additions, it's the 'actually doing shit in the game' part in Skyrim which snuffs me out every time. Modders won't dare touch vanilla quests or seamlessly add in new ones that are Oblivion-tier entertaining, with very few exceptions. I think it's so much more of an offline MMO than even Xenoblade Chronicles.
