That isn't how it works at all. Square-Enix publishes a number of American games in Japan (especially Activision titles), but the merchandising rights are completely separate from the publishing of the games. For example, they published the last few Spider-Man games in Japan, but plenty of Japanese companies have made Spidey figures (even ones based on the ASM movies like the games). As with any future American-made Overwatch figures, the ball is entirely in Blizzard's court as far as who gets to make Overwatch figures.

Honestly none due to the mechanical nature of most of the designs I would probably give it to Sentinel. Even though they're new to the game and would probably never get such a big IP but after seeing the engineering of the Truforce X I wouldn't mind if they tried to tackle it as well.

I'm not saying it's bad, just pointing it out. Blizzard did make a good game, it's just not original. It's mechanics are solid, the game's style is fun and colorful, and the characters are all very engaging and endearing. Blizzard put a lot of work into the game, everything turned out well with no glaring problems and the marketing juggernaut worked like a charm. I'm not faulting Blizzard for making a very successful clone of Tf2, in fact a lot of other companies should learn by example on how it should be done.

Oh I'm aware of that, and again I'm not faulting them or complaining. The game is highly over hyped, but it's in no way bad. That said, it is a very far cry from the original idea of a full on fantasy mmofps they started with. But again, the game still has it's good points, especially in the cool characters.

I don't get why anyone is surprised, shocked, offended or didn't immediately notice or expect Overwatch to be a ripoff/reference fest. It's Blizzard's whole modus operandi. Even Warcraft was originally supposed to be a Warhammer game until GW got cold feet and called it off.
Overwatch is just a mashup of TF2 and generic MOBA games clogged full of concepts from all over the place.
All the harping on Neca for TF2 and L4D is pretty unfair. At least on the TF2 side, Valve are notoriously hard to deal with, something Neca has said time and time again. I'd have loved a full TF2 set, but it's just not happening, and that's down to Valve wanting to promote their own line of figures, the little blind boxed ones. I'm sure if Neca got Overwatch we'd not get every hero, but it's unreasonable to expect that from any company. So long as we get Tracer, Winston, Reaper, Widowmaker and Soldier 76, I'd be content as they're probably the most important characters in the story. However, I'd happily take a Roadhog and Mccree figure given I play them both more than anyone. I'd even take Funko making them in their new 1/18th line or their 6' scale line which seems to be failing at the moment.
