June Challenges:
>Build a minifigure of a Star Wars character that doesn't already have one.
>Build a robot command centre. You figure out what it's supposed to be a robot or command them!
>Build something that's mostly Lego but uses some third party/off brand pieces.
>Build a brick-built wheelchair that looks better than the one in 60134.
>Build something based off of another anon's MOC.
>Fenimiminismninimism- Give your female figs something BADASS to ride around in! Bonus points for minidolls.
>Make a Fighting arena for your two most badass minifigs!
>Go to the Lego aisle at Walmart and startle someone
>Home Sweet Home - In honor of Captain Rex's AT-TE, rebuild a vehicle into a mobile home for your favorite figs.

Mr. T, Adventure Time, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Goonies, and a bunch of other media properties are getting Dimensions packs. See last thread for details and videos.

adding to this the June bride challenge that was forgotten a few threads ago:
>June Bride. Set up an impromptu wedding between your sig fig and another fig, or your waifig/husbafig and another. Bonus points for celebrity guests, full musical acts and ultimate points for treating her/him like a princess/prince with a "fairytale wedding" (fancier the better).

Let me get this M O T H E R F U C K I N G straight
So I did a quick bricklink search, I clicked elves I saw Farran (the elf guy) goes for 2$??
Is this for real?
Is this the same generally? Wow eBay sure looks fucking stupid now.
>>
>>5724982
friends and elves figs are cheap in BL, sometimes the entire fig is cheaper than buying the hairpiece it comes with.
>>
Does anyone else wish Lego would release more buildings in there themes? I'd rather buy a section of the batcave rather than a bat-dune buggy. I feel like the only series that has a good building to vehicle ratio right now is Nexo Knights.
>>
>>5725010
Kind of. I like set pieces with substance to them. Picked up my first modular and will be building it tomorrow. It'll be the first major building set I've had since I was a wee kid.

Also let's say I buy a couple of things from different stores do they all come at the same time or one at a time? How does shipping work?

Summer's here, and that means

THE GREAT LEGO QUEST SUMMER SPOOKY GIRL GIVEAWAY CONTEST

is happening right now!

Everyone in the Lego General has the chance to win their very own mint-in-bag Spooky Girl! Just make a summer-related MOC and take a picture of it (with timestamp) and post it in this thread along with an email. Once ten people have entered or it's June 15, the one that makes me laugh the most will win a free Spooky Girl!

This contest is open to everyone in the world, but it's only for people who don't already have a Spooky Girl of their own! If you already have one, please be nice and let someone else have a chance!

Offer ends June 15, 2016.

top right
>>5725161
>>
>>5725486
Why do they consistently choose the shittiest ones?
>>
>>5725496
digital zoom is basically auto cropping, right?
it lets you zoom in and out using the physical zoom while keeping the minifig the same size.
that way, the background changes in size/blur
>>
>>5725458
I also hope that.
>>
File: zoom.png (58 KB, 800x800) Image search: [Google]
zoom.png
58 KB, 800x800
>>5725501
No. Digital zoom is a crop of the middle (usually) of the image on the sensor, which is then upscaled to fit the full image size and usually has a blur filter applied. Changing the digital zoom won't change the appearance of the tower relative to Lego guy's head.

Actual physical zoom will change the perspective of a photo as well- distant objects will appear closer and a scene will appear "flatter" the longer your focal length, which is what you describe with
>it lets you zoom in and out using the physical zoom while keeping the minifig the same size.
>that way, the background changes in size/blur

Why would a setting named digital zoom change the physical zoom?
>>
>>5725508
Also, keep in mind that Googling for examples of this will never give you good results- everyone just crops part of a full image and edits it to simulate digital vs optical zoom, but none of them take into account the difference in perspective that your optical zoom makes.
>>
>>5725509
*difference in perspective that your zoom forces you to make yourself by getting closer to the subject, which will change how everythinge else looks.

Fuck it, I'm no /p/otato, this stuff is hard to put into werds.
>>
>>5725486

Still waiting for them to do that
>>
>>5725508
no i meant you use the physical zoom to zoom in and out, and then you use digital zoom to reframe the minifig.

imagine you're far away from the minifig:
-if you zoom in physically, the background will look more blurry and closer to the foreground.
-if you zoom in digitally, the background will look more in focus and slightly farther away
>>
>>5725530
Background blur is dependent on aperture, not just zoom. Raise the aperture far enough and the background will be as sharp as the foreground regardless of zoom.
>>
>>5725535
*ackhually* you have to lower aperture to be more in focus, but even then there are constraints because of light. if you don't have enough light you gotta keep it wide open to get more light in and stuff will get more blurry. but i guess that with lego you can just increase exposure time. unless you have a cheap point and shoot that doesn't let you do that.

I have a strong feeling that a majority of these characters are gonna be released -- all of the villains for sure. Whether it'll be in regular sets, polybags, DVD pack-ins or SDCC is to be seen. The LEGO Movie was really good at releasing all of the new and unique characters as real plastic, with few exceptions (pic related).

I don't claim to be a photography expert, but my potato calls it "digital zoom", it changes the depth of field (?) in a different way than the manual zoom does, and these three pics were taken without moving the camera's position. But like I said, I am not an expert at this.
>>
>>5725626
in those 3 pics the physical zoom changes, that's what changes the depth of field.
digital zoom can only crop the picture.
>>
>>5725629
Well, my camera calls it digital zoom, and I made the guide based on my potato, so I assume anyone (like you) who actually knows anything about it won't need as much hand-holding and probably won't be using a potato.

Good to know, though.
>>
>>5725633
yup-
basically the top picture is zoomed out physically and zoomed in digitally.
the bottom picture is zoomed in physically without any digital zoom.

The general idea is that with physical zoom, when you zoom in you make everything "flatter" (BG looks closer to FG) and when you zoom out you make everything "deeper" (BG looks farther away than FG). so with physical zoom you control how the BG looks in relation to the FG.
Then, to frame the subject properly, you can 1) move closer/further away 2) crop the shot in post 3) zoom in/out with digital zoom - the result should be pretty much the same (correct me if i'm wrong)

All /p/ wankery aside, i think ultimately the guide makes sense and works anyways.
>>
All this photography talk makes me want to get a proper camera to take some pics. I'm currently working my phone's camera (xperia Z3) but I would love to improve my pics with non-digital zoom.

It's a good guide, but I don't think you should tell people to just "lower the ISO" without explaining what it does, and that you have to either increase the aperture or add more lights to balance it out.
Still, nice guide, wish I had anything summery here to enter the competition.

The speed champions and regular mudguards work pretty well in six-wide scale, yes. But other techniques are possible as well (will post in a followup post)
>How hard is it to get all the shit to line up right like that in the first place?

>How detailed can you make an interior at minifig scale without it getting cramped?
My interiors only have room for a steeringwheel and two studs next to it that you can use for a console or something.

7 wide is definitely possible, however I would learn to crawl before running a marathon. Lego gets way more complex when working with odd widths, though I see plenty of nice models on Eurobricks and similar.
8 wide I'd steer away from, unless it's a really heavy duty truck or something.
Here's a 6-wide 4 seater I made, it's got a lot of room in the back for luggage and stuff without looking disproportionately huge.
Also, once again, without mudguards. It's not difficult, if anything, it makes it easier since you don't have to reserve so much space for the mudguards.

Thank you.

I've been trying to put the jumper plates reaching to the outside with doors right above that, which leaves an empty peg in the middle for a center console (which can look pretty alright but makes everything super cramped and makes the doors a big flustercuck that can't even be solved with the tall tile things).

ex. of jumper confusion and trying to make things too detailed and having no simple way to make the windshield play nice (other than not using a solid windshield but that's lame).

I guess no one uses those seats anymore, huh? Shame, I liked them.

>>5725692
I can see the appeal for sure, and it blew my mind that they even existed (something that I hope happens to everyone who gets back into Lego after over a decade when they discover all the new pieces), but I guess I just dig big square sealed beams and the types of cars that have them. 1x1 round flats are nice, too- why aren't those used more often instead of pegs?

Hmm, with some more space between the rows, I think there would be a way to make that work. But yeah, I don't use the seats, but that doesn't mean you can't use them.
As for making the windshield fit, you could try a 3x6x2 windshield, like the one I use in >>5725681

There's probably a way to make it work, but I'm a shitter and can't figure it out. The 3x windshield has little curve parts taken out so it'll fit on top of the tall doors, but the 2x doesn't, oddly; the 2x can be made to work just fine without the tall doors, but that means building the shorter doors up height wise or making a big ol' gap above them that would look weird.

I never had this much trouble when I was a kid making four by seven vehicles on the designated vehicle base with 2x4 windshields. For want of a nail I've stabbed myself in the foot!

7-wide is my preferred scale, at least when building SUVs and trucks. Give it a shot sometime, though you'll certainly have to get comfortable with offsets.

>>5725725 The problem I have with those seats is that not only do they raise your fig by a plate (which can screw up design dimensions) but they also take up a lot of room due to the back of the chair. I just sit my figs directly on the jumper plates, taking care of both those issues. Sure the interior might look a little bare, but that can be overcome to some degree. Plus functionality is a bit more important than aesthetics in this case (imo).

Not that anon, but is it reasonable to go 6-wide for coupes, sedans, wagons, etc; 7-wide for SUVs and trucks; 8-wide for semi trucks and oversized utility trucks, ambulances (rear), anything else bigger than standard; and 4-wide can go fuck right off?

I think if you're just starting to delve into vehicle making, that's a pretty good rule of thumb. Of course, everything is subject to opinion, and depending on the scale you're working in one size might be more viable than another. Personally I find 7-wide to be quite versatile, and build quite a few things in that scale (pic related).

>Not sure why Lego continues to use the standard chunky wheels, come to think of it.
Probably so there's more flexibility when kids are rebuilding them? That, and they look, well, more like wheels- big cartoony ones that a kid playing with Lego will draw. They don't want steelie wheels and thin tires- they're building the toy car of their dreams (or the last ten minutes of their imagination), not a '92 Honda Civic.

It's almost funny, 'cause in my opinion quite a few of their own vehicles (especially the smaller City ones) look way, way better with the non-chunky wheels.

93594. There's multiple wheels in that size with two different tire types- the tire you want is 51011 (17.5mm), the other tire type is so small it makes the whole assembly the same size as the dinky tiny wheels you see on go-karts and shit (you know the one).

There's also 5 and 8 spoke wheels in that size, but they look worse than the steelies IMO. All of them look kind of dinky if you're using mudguards most of the time, but leave 'em off and they'll look good.

The game is made by Warner Bros. Disney is notorious for not wanting to work with them. Shit like this is why the Gen 13 animated movie is tied up in legal red tape.

Even the Lego Movie had barely any SW presence and you get the feeling Disney felt they were being "generous" with that cameo.

Finally put my purple bricklink parts to use and made another monstertruck out of it.

I like it anon

btw this isn't your fault but these narrow roadplates really bother me when so many vehicles are in 6 or 8 wide configuration

Maybe, but it makes more sense than Spongebob and Angry Birds.

yeah i know that, the cars just cross over the green lines. But i have a lot of nostalgic value attached to them, so not sure if i'm gonna change them out. But i think the newer ones don't have the green line and would fit better.

Where in that pic did you get LEGO City from?
>>
>>5726082
WB Games literally JUST released LEGO:The Force Awakens.

>Even the Lego Movie had barely any SW presence and you get the feeling Disney felt they were being "generous" with that cameo.
The LEGO movie was made pre-buy out. Like, the ink was still wet when it was released.

First row on the left appears to be a rebuilt Police vehicle.

Ok quality but design wise- they are very fragile.

I believe they actualy closed Infinity to focus on Dimensions. And I'm sure we will get SW and Disney Characters.
>>

Source on that?
I wanna believe
>>
>>5726466
I'd expect Marvel to join up as well, if Disney really did close Infinity for that. To be honest, I highly doubt that's the case, seeing as Dimensions is produced by Warner Bros, one of Disney's long-standing rivals.

I learned one - Noone will care as long it will make enough money.

On the other hand we wouldn't expect to have all these new IPs having a Lego presence 2 years ago.

Apparently the only non-viable addition would be Marvel since they are highly autistic over sharing their presence with DC, but I have yet to find a source that confirms this.
Disney, on the other hand, would not pass the chance to stay in the TTL market and get an additional profit thanks to the Lego tax.
