For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Just finished assembly on my first FAG gourai. Pretty quick to build and super cute. There's some nice engineering to try and hide seams with overlapping parts too which is nice. It's a bit annoying to pose though since the arm and leg parts that are just on pegs like to come apart as you try to move them around. The MSG pistol looks great in her hand, but the MSG lance is too big sadly.
>>
>>5631093
Yeah, I've been looking through pictures of stylet and the engineering is pretty good on her too.

Dengeki Hobby shows off some improvements you can make, like redoing the head assembly to seam weld the hair and such together.

Have any of you used/seen copic markers on gunpla? They have an airbrush system that uses the markers, and I've seen video tutorials of people decorating fishing lures with them (which implies they're durable) but since they're not paint I'm not sure if they'd magnify flaws in the plastic or some other ill effect?
>>
>>5631779
BTW I've seen people use them for panel lines, I'm talking more generally about using them with their airbrush attachment.

>It's a bit annoying to pose though since the arm and leg parts that are just on pegs like to come apart as you try to move them around.

I had a problem with joints being TOO tight, actually. The ankle joints on both my Gourai and Stylet; one of Stylet's ankles actually exploded when I was trying to put it in and I had thread the whole damn thing with wire and cement it. Ended up needing to dremel the sockets out a bit so the pegs would fit.

As for weapons, the rinky-dink shoulder turret Gourai comes with is pretty pathetic so I bought a second big gun, and a belt-fed gatling cannon. The ammo drum and the two big guns on her back don't fit at the same time, though. It's a shame. Also gave her Stylet's gun, since that little blue bitch is rockin' a sniper rifle bigger than she is now.

Sorry about my potato camera.

It's kawaii ~uguu, mecha and pretty customizable with the female form allowing for more dress ups.
So it makes sense that they are popular, aside from that on guy on both /gpg/ who birches about them.

Been thinking a little lately, I wonder what Bandai's pipeline capacity regarding what they can R&D, produce and drip feed to us while not over saturating the market. IE The star Wars plamo kits seem to have dried up after the April Kylo Ren release (or perhaps there will be more announcements at Shizuoka) and I'm thinking it might be because of the imminent release of the Macross Delta 1/72 kits
>>
>>5631991
That could work as the sheriff ace custom.

I think the origin Guntank or a Zaku 1 could work well for a police unit.

My mind set for how UC police mobile suits would work out, is that they would not have the latest suits and would have old hand me downs from the military or old captured suits.
>>
>>5632056
I think the most likely one is hand me down units, I wouldn't be surprised if we See the First production type gm as police units by UC 93 in colonies.
>>
>>5632065
I also figured that they would have plenty of Zakus of both sorts kicking around even with taking a few for reverse engineering.

You would also have the fear factor with the Zakus.

You could also have the Zaku 1 carrying the colony gassing equipment converted for tear gas for something morbidly amusing and more fear factor.
>>
>>5632065
>>5632170
I think they'd swap the heads on the GMs and Zakus.

Its because they can only sell SW stuff in the JDM, so I guess they're pushing out the final few projects in progress and leaving the line for a while. The amount of work they have to put into a SW kit is stupid high, unless they happen to have references to schematics, thanks to needing close to 100% accuracy to the movies.
>>
>>5632490
The SW kits really show just how ahead of everyone Bandai is. Seriously, the amount of details on the ship is something.

I thought about it, but I ship my stuff RSAL most of the time since I already have so much crap to build. I still haven't even touched Stylet, and I'm probably going to box up Gourai's weapons because they're not done and I'm lazy.
>>
>>5632839
Bandai consistently has proven that they can't do animu-girl faces well. I'm not just talking about Super Fumina either.
>>
>>5632839
Koto is really getting a head start, i hope Bandai jumps in and starts getting good soon, Super Fumina was laughable but at least it was an attempt, make Girl Grade happen, Bandai.

At least they can make all their mistakes with the RX-78, Zaku, Ashtray, etc and then really nail the important girls

>>
>>5632846
That's just a problem of choice of artist/sculptor. That's the easiest part to fix.
>>
>>5632848
I don't think its gundam designs, its just no creative artists.

All things considered baselard is really and excuse to make a bunny girl first and an implementation of the original second, they just threw on a pair of robot arms on the side and did all the could to keep the pristine, vanilla bunny girl an option. Not like that's a bad thing mind you, the plain bunny girl is what sold me on her.
>>
>>5632846
It really shouldn't be that hard.

They just don't really look good for some reason.

I would say the Baselard is the one that inspired a bunny girl, not that they wanted to make one. Also the design makes sense and is literally perfect.
>>
>>5632858
That's why baselard doesn't do anything for me. It's a "bunny girl next to some mech stuff" rather than a "bunnygirlmech". Seems I'm in the minority though.
>>
>>5632888
Honestly the simpler design of the main body is probably better for us, since it wont complicate the model kit design.

>>
So in my endless quest to find the perfect clear paints to do my ancient Unit 01 in metallic colours with (with Unit 02 legs because I fucked up the kit's original legs. Don't ask.) I now have 3 potential candidates for the purple.

1: Mr. Clear Colour Clear Purple. Probably won't use this one as it's a fucking nightmare to work with and expensive as fuck to get hold of. Maybe I'm just a retard who's spent too long working with 40K models but I hate this stuff with a vengeance. It's gloopy as fuck, needs a tonne of thinner (the thinner in question being expensive cancer in a bottle) and IIRC it will burn anything off that isn't hardwearing lacquer paint.
2: Badger Minitaire Ghost Tint Purple. Went to Salute! recently and the bloke at the stand recommended it to me. He gave me lots of advice on it actually, notably that it doesn't require thinning before running it through an airbrush, and it's water based (which is neat). Also it come in a dropper bottle, which is cool.
3: Forge World Eidolon Purple. I can't find any reviews or information about the FW paints but in my limited experience with them (which was by hand on 28mm scale miniatures) they're great to work with. I managed to get a reasonably convincing metallic teal effect on a Vampire Lord's armour with them with a paintbrush. I don't THINK they need thinning through an airbrush either, though I have the thinner just to be on the safe side.

Regarding the metallic coat, I'm probably going for Tamiya Chrome Silver as I like the flake it has, or Mr. Colour Chrome Silver as it has a very nice finish when it's buffed, and is much less of a pain to work with than the clear paints.

Of course I need to buy myself a new airbrush first as my ancient jar-feed is falling apart.

Wait, you can get metallic purple/green/orange? The only metallic paints I've ever seen have been in "normal" metal colours (brass, bronze, silver, steel, gold etc). As for why go for a candy coat, A: I didn't know you could get coloured metallic paint until now, B: whilst I do like metallic grain, there is something really nice about the depth and intensity of colour granted by candy finishes- and having a candy effect with relatively "coarse" silver would allow for a good compromise (at least AFAIK), and C: all the attempts I've made to mix my own coloured metallics have been fairly uninspiring- they've all been very washed out and pale.

Please bear in mind I'm not very experienced with painting and only really have experience with 40K minis, though I am looking to increase my proficiency.
For what it's worth, I was inspired to do a shiny Unit 01 by the SOC figure which has a GORGEOUS candy purple finish.

Is there a better socket to connect the MG Unicorn to an action base than the one provided with the Unicorn? It doesnt have a lot of clutch so the Unicorn falls off a lot when trying to pose it

Also how do you get the knee psychoframe to stay out when you put it into unicorn mode? I had to jam a piece of wood through the back of one of the knees to keep the psychoframe out,

>MG Jesta Cannon is P-Bandai only

Damn shame. The HG was probably the most fun I've had building so far, and I was really hoping to get an MG with lots of gun. I guess the Geara Doga will have to do.
>>
HobbySearch had a sale recently and I bought some decals and decided to get the NXedge Schwalbee Graze since it was cheap and holy shit is it a mess. Admitedly its one of my first toys of the kind from japan, I usually stick to gunpla, but no wonder people don't give a shit when building gunpla when bandai doesn't with their prebuilt toys, this thing has some pretty nasty nubs and gouges. I had to clean up the elbow joints since nubs limited its intended articulation. Guess that's mass produced toys for you, still pretty neat toy but it reinforced my preference for gunpla, where I only have myself to blame for shit looks.

On another note one of my decal sheets has a bunch of decals mostly, well, frosted over? Not sure how to describe it, one sheet (same decals, different color) looks perfect but the other sheet is all fucked like this. It almost looks like they're bubbled or not sticking to the sheet from certain angles, are they screwed up or will it make no difference?
>>
>>5633305
You call that a backlog? I am disappoint.
>>
>>5635287
Once you start building gunpla you will suddenly see all the imperfection of prebuilt toys. A bad paint app here, nub marks there etc.

>>5633833
The Mr color GX line also have a metallic purple. But it needs alot of thinning but that's what I notice about the GX line.
>>
>>5635287
Disregard the decal stuff, I'm a complete retard.

I went ahead and tried opening the bag/sleeve and realized it was just the decals sticking to the plastic and giving it a weird look, they're intact, here u was ready to test them out.

I got a couple of the frame arm kits and they're pretty fun and neat looking, only thing that bothers me is that the prebuilt inner frame has cuts where there might have been nubs or something. most of is covered by other stuff but they can sometimes be visible on joints so you end having to sand it.

So last night I tried seeing how simple the regular gusion parts could be modded to fit over the 1/100 barbatos frame since the gusion doesn't use several of the frame parts the rebake does.

Torso and head were simple, they fit right over the cheast parts and connect the same way as rebake. The waist parts needed a small bit of plastic trimmed (due to barbatos having a different crotch piece on the frame) but nothing major.

Then you get to the legs, which is what kills it. On barbatos the knee joint is sort of a circle piece fixed in place by the lower leg. On gusion and rebake it's more of a half circle and peg so you can pull it out of the lower leg frame and stick it in the gusion leg joint.

So that was the end of that. I figured I could simply clip the pegs and glue anything like the bicep or thigh armor on, but heavily modding an actual joint is further than I'm looking to do.

I'm a VFX artist for films and one project I'm working on requires large-ish, custom built, spaceship models. Scale isn't too important as long as the models are very detailed.

What I need are lots and lots of "model kits", you know the plastic ones with all the individual pieces you glue together, so that I can kitbash something together.

I have absolutely no idea where to find said model kits, I live in london but i'm guessing it would be cheaper to buy them online. As cheap as possible would be good because then I can buy a shitload.

Does anyone here have any recommendations regarding where to look?
