You have to remember, these CMF sets are probably like $5-$7 for the ENTIRE SET. MUCH cheaper than what lego has to offer. Thats why, no matter how much the purist may REEEEEE about it, usually these are equal to lego in my opinion. Sure, there might be a few oddities here and there (like the thin waists), but usually some thing like that can be fixed with a part swap or two.

Shit anon, that's pretty well-done!

The only complaint I have (besides the speed) is that moving the camera upward at the end is pretty jarring. It might look better if the anim was longer and it led to something, but as it is, it just looks like you picked up the camera at the end and forgot it was still recording.
>>
>>5630506
You're improving.

Work on maintaining a constant rate of fps, that will probably really hard but practice makes perfect.

is the Aliexpress REALLY that ok? Some of their paint apps look like absolute trash.

Yes, the Revan figure is just fine. Only things that might be off are the color of his saber blade (easy swap) and his cape is actual cloth instead of that fake paper cloth shit lego used for a long time.

This guy gets it, I just did that with my movie style Deadpool, one of his kneepad prints is off, so I ordered another one, and if that one isnt good, im ordering five more so I can frankenfig a good one.

For about 80 cents a fig, its not that bad.
>>
>>5630529
If you just pack bunch of pictures to video, you may simply copy same frame several times.
>>
>>5630531
>Any other purchases worth recommending from there?

EVERYTHING from the Enlighten Pirates series is fucking beautiful. Theres a ship thats a giant turtle, undead pirate ships that are HUGE, a water ski powered by two sharks pulling it, and some great waifigs (and enlighten is willing to print the cleavage on them.).

Most of the single superhero figures are great except for a few exceptions (any of the iron man figures are good EXCEPT for tonys face, they print it too high on his head, easy swap though.), they are doing what look like some OK nexo knights knockoffs right now, and for SOME REASON, they released knockoffs of the ninjago sky pirates shit like a MONTH before lego did.

Mostly just keep in mind that the stuff is cheap enough you can take a couple risks to see if they are stuff you might like. Also keep an eye on shipping costs and delivery time. The good stores have free shipping, but definitely expect the shit to take a couple weeks to a month to get to you. Good thing is they have protection so if it take longer than 60-90 days at the most, you get a full refund AND get to keep the shit if and when it comes.
>>
>>5630537
Thats a good idea. I was going to try and convert single images to video by telling ffmpeg to use a really low fps then stitching them all together with the higher fps stuff when I was done.
>>
so bootlegs are acceptable now? are the plastic quality on par with lego?
>>
>>5630543
Yeah I saw the purple waifu with the pirate set and the badass skull guy, I need to check if they sell them separately.
>>
>>5630499
I know they are cheaper, but I wont buy the entire set for just one or two pieces that interest me, that still $5 to $7 that I'm not using to buy other pieces.

Most of those figs are simply too specific, and I don't like the head prints. That being said if anyone is willing to start a BL store that sells certain bootleg parts as "custom items" I'd totally buy from you.
>>
>>5630546
Yeah for the most part. Sometimes the clutch is a little loose, but I've bought multiple non-lego sets off aliexpress and they're all fine.
>>
>>5630546
They are improving
>>
>>5630546
Bootlegs are acceptable as long as you just ignore people bitching about it. And yes, the quality is really good, sure, theres a few mistakes here and there, but it seems like its getting better by the month, so give it a shot if ya want, buy a figure for 80 cents, what do you lose?

Well actually no, I was wrong, for some reason I thought it was different. Only difference from a regular figure is one of the legs is a tad bit loose and there isn't any "LEGO" mold mark anywhere.

I wonder what the lego company thinks about this

Enlighten for sure for sets, some of the others are ok.

Sheng Yuan (I think thats how its spelled, abbreviated to SY and then a number for looking for specific figures, IE: SY223) and Decool are pretty much the top dogs for super hero figures (although decools can be hit or miss.)

Bela makes some pretty good knockoffs of full sets, like star wars and capeshit.

Pretty much just do your research and look for reviews, heres a good place to start, this guy reviews a lot of this stuff and even does side by side comparisons between lego and the knockoffs.

http://mybrickstore.blogspot.com/
>>
>>5630650
We have one from one of those house sets that they sell, its pretty much same as lego. Pegs fit nice and snug. Plastic feels a little different, but who cares how it feels.

Also you can buy different baseplates, which im guessing are these chink ones, on amazon if you dont want to deal with ALI, but its STILL coming out of china, so the shipping times will probably be about the same.

>>5630648
That would be neat as fuck, but I bet the plastic would feel pretty brittle. Chinese transparent parts are definitely a little off. I bought a set of blank transparent minifigs and they definitely are not up to snuff compared to lego. I have a trans nick fury though which is really good, so it may just be hit and miss.
>>
>>5630657
And reading through this, I think we have out first review of one of the Star Wars TFA knock off sets, Kylo Rens shuttle.

Guy says its spot fucking on, solid construction, even the figures look good.

and it only costs $41.
>>
>>5630671
Actually, scratch that, looking at the closeups of the figures, theres definitely some issues and he even says that, but still, compared to $120, easy enough to replace a few first order troops.

i'm having a little trouble photographing black parts with my one lamp and phone camera.
The rocketlauncher i built is barely visible for example, but when i up the exposure the bright colours tent to overexposure and oversaturate. But when i don't the black has very little gradients you can discipher. I think the camera does some weird contrast fuckery even though i turned auto contrast off.

Yeah the suicide doors were a bit of a necessity, but now i just imagine it being modded a lot.

The hood/windscreen assembly is the trickiest part, but the two squares on the hood kind of spoil how it was done. Event though it's attached with just a few studs, the backs of those headlightbricks clutch like a motherfucker. Also i ran out of 1x1 plates with studs when i took this picture on one side, but those fit snugly on the inside of the windscreen piece too for stability.

For axles i use modified 1 x 4 plates with wheelholders on the side placed. Then i place them on jumpers. The plate has hollow studs so you can use the tubes of a plate to "un-offset" it so to speak and the wheelarches allign again.

Sup /lg/ I've been lurking these threads for about a week now and decided to get into the hobby after cashing out of MtG.
My question is: What would you recommend to buy to someone who never got to play with lego as a child and is just starting out his collection? I'm mostly interested in building mechs a la MF0 and maybe some cars to build with my nephew. This past weekend I checked some local stores and these sets catched my eye:
>http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?S=31033#T=S&O={}
I can get this for $21. I liked this one because the amount of wheels, wheel brackets and mudguards seemed amazing for the prize.
I can get this one for $8. I liked two of the three designs, the third one just swaps the tail with the wings and that seems like cheating to me, but hey at $.08 per piece can't really complain.
I can get this one for $5. I liked it mostly for the cheap price, the designs are samey but not much can be done with 65 pieces half of which goes to the chassis . Might get this for the nephew anyway.
>http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?S=31041#T=S&O={}
Again, $5 for this one. Seems like it has some interesting and useful pieces for later use in building mechs, and also comes with the "car chassis" pieces which I like.
>http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?S=10695#T=S&O={}
$28 for this. I don't have any bricks and less than five cents per piece seems like an awesome deal to me. I could build some shit with the nephew with this and use it later as terrain fodder for MF0.
>http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?S=10693#T=S&O={}
$18 for this. Same deal as the last one but it consumes less of my current budget which I can spend on other sets.

TL;DR: You have $50 bucks, you have no bricks, what sets would you buy?

Your design is brilliant, it is so simple and easily modifiable that I couldn't help but make variants. Utility is my favorite capability of a design and yours was just asking for tinkering! I didn't think to use jumper plates, I just wanted what looked the nicest haha Expect more in the future because I am sure I'll be up all night fiddling with these.
>>
>>5632074
If you want to build minifig scale cars those wheels might be a little on the small side, unless you really like the 80s 4-wide town look.

Also consider what colour parts you'd be interested in as the creative buckets tend to have all kinds of colours in small quanities.

Unless you don't mind going full rainbow warriors.

As for mechs, do they have mixels around your place? (Here they don't unfortunately.) They tend to have rather coherent colourschemes and lots of joints and such handy for robutts.
>>
>>5632058
>That tickle your itch?
it is a beautiful thing, thank you
>>
>>5632080
No, no. I cashed out, then I put aside $50 (which coincidentlly is what I sold each of my SP Tiagos at) just for buying lego. The rest of the money is on a bank account until I decide what to do with it.

>>5632088
While I wouldn't mind the rainbow warriors look while starting it does seem like a good idea to pick some colors and stick to them. They didn't carry mixels at the stores I went to, but it seems like a good idea to hunt those down, lots of useful pieces, I got thrown off by the goofy design on the bags at first glance. About the cars now that I look at them again they do seems to be on the small side, never bothered to check them with a minifig side by side. I'm liking these >>5631911 >>5632044 designs, could you guys post some step-by-steps please? I'm mostly interested in the chassis or skeleton of the builds.

The stores seemed to have mostly recent stuff:
>Ninjago
I liked the minifigs and some of the sets but they seemed to be way overpriced when I checked the prices online.
>City
This line looks too bland for me, there may be some useful sets but they were a bit on the expensive side.
>Chima
I would like the line but it is a bit too furry for me even if it has some interesting designs that were on discount.
>Super Heroes
>Overpriced Capeshit

Only bitch is the thing is so heavy and right now we have it on our fireplace mantle. When doing fires in the winter I took it down each time, scared as fuck of dropping it. Fuck, his cat must be so used to his train shenanigans. Our cats went nuts when I set up my meager tracks into a circle and ran my trains around it. They chased it and slammed into it and pawed it until it derailed.

Buses are literally boxes on wheels. This one is just stacking bricks, except for some upside down slopes on the rear. The hardest part is fitting all the seats inside, which is jumper plates.
It is 8 studs wide, which probably triggers scale layout autism. You do need 8 studs to get two rows of seats and an aisle.
I want to make an articulated light rail train to go along with it, but I don't have a good sliding door design

Holy shit, a use for minifig plates!

Have you tried making one 2 more studs wider? I'd image it would give a lot more room to work with

Man, I wish I could own the helicarrier, but it's extremely big, and I don't have a place to put it.

I think 8 is the sweet spot. Right now the number of seats maps nicely to a real bus, where every pair of seats is one seat. Adding two studs is enough for 3 seats per row, but still only room for two fat little minifigs.
7 studs wide would be nice visually but fucking disgusting to build, and I can't have two seats face the aisle at once.

misplacing lego is the worst. I have no idea where some minifigs like the ufo guy or jango fett and general grievous went, or if they were pocketed by visiting kids who I let play with my lego

This will always be my biggest fear

You mean the big Marvel one with all the neat minimodels? I was tempted to get that myself, but yeah, no where to put that thing cus it's a huge brick essentially. Was also a bit disappointed with how the bottom/back looks when checking it out, and the lack of any real colour contrast combined with stickers saved my wallet that day. If I had more disposable income I'd still cave though.

Ever since I was a kid I've been paranoid of this. One day the babysiter invited the whole neighbourhood over to play with our lego dioramas when me and my brother were "grounded" and so many minifigs and parts went missing (not to mention other toys I'm sure) before parents came home. To this day I'm still not sure what exactly got swipped.
