I'm...guessing there was an original version of this?

Yeah, Kabaya's Transformers Gum Fortress Maximus was originally released in 2012.

He's around Voyager size if you're interested, with a functioning Cerebros (but Cerebros's head doesn't transform).
>>
How likely is MP Shockwave to get a reissue if/when the current run sells out? I'd like to get him, but can't quite afford it right now, but I'm also afraid of how much more I won't be able to afford him if my only option for getting him is paying rape prices on eBay later on.

Likely, along with a black repaint and maybe something else.

not at all, if you dont like how you stuck them, you can always try again. Unlike Gundam stickers which get ruined if you didnt nail the first try

So I have really kind of hated the Combiner Wars line since it started. I think the figures are all cheaply designed, engineered, painted, and produced and I'm bitter as fuck that the glory days of CHUG have been replaced by gimmick lines like this. I'm also upset that thy l not only is Hasbro cutting costs on these things, they're jacking up the prices for us. Because of this, I have largely been ignoring the line, save for a few that I was hoping could fit my CHUG collection but sadly, I just can't justify them being on the shelf with them. I even bought a Perfect Effect kit to make the Gestalt articulation actually worth a damn but it just didn't help. They stick out like a sore thumb with how different the aesthetics feel to me and how cheap they look by comparison. I recognize they're meant to be more for fun and not for collecting and they are kind of neat in that respect but I just couldn't get into the line.

Until last night. I was making room on my CHUG shelf and saw Skylynx there. I was gonna take him and the rest of my CW guys off the shelf anyway so I decided to actually try out his gestalt. I never actually did because everybody said it was floppy and shitty. I grabbed the Aerialbots as they were the only limb bots I had and had an epiphany. The line finally clicked with me and I realized just how fun these guys are, cheap and shitty as they may be. I still feel the same bitterness toward the line but I'm actually finding myself wanting to start buying a bunch more and having them on a different shelf. It took one of the shittiest figures in the line to make me realize how fun they are and now I want more. I even ordered G2 Menasor. God help my wallet now because my hatred for the line was helping me save money...

So, when the fuck is G2 Bruticus coming out? I want it.
>>
>>5624057
Wow... thanks phone for borking my post...

Anyway, I also actually kind of really like Skylynx's big floppy ugly gestalt. Really, QC is the big reason it sucks but some of Skylynx's joints actually add some extra articulation thanks to them not really tabbing in. His rear leg swivels can be used for a butterfly joint in gestalt mode and the hip joints actually add extra movement to the shoulders. It's actually pretty neat. It's just a shame the QC sucks and makes his legs want to fall apart and flop around.

Would it be cheaper/better to get the rerelease in August or try to hope/haggle for cheaper prices of the original at TFcon in July?
>>
>>5624057
Considering the history of combiners past Beast Wars, I didn't have much faith in CW.
>Micromaster Combiners are almost entirely kibble
>Energon was minmaxed to put out more teams rather than have unique team compositions and had minimal articulation
>PCC was a disaster that shelfwarmed into forever
>RotF had a giant waste of money and a tiny miracle
>FoC hit during a budget crunch that made sure Bruticus suffered
>Beast Hunters Abominus was more an easter egg than anything

Turns out the pressure to make an entire line of the fuckers instead of just having one or two waves dedicated to it makes sure the system works better than anything we've had before.

They gave up trying to have dedicated engineering for the limbs to be arms or legs aside from some ports on the feet. The arm mode is just the legs, and the leg is mostly just the vehicle with the front folded up. And that's all they ever needed to be.

The torsos revolve around locking into place solidly and don't try to intrude upon the job the limbs have (That being said you miiight wanna look into an add-on for that G2 menasor's shoulders)
And the legends class companions can be a bit intrusive but are ultimately harmless. That being said, I love the idea of Powerglide on the Aerialbots and Shockwave on the Combaticons.

Ultimately the line is definitely doing more right than it has wrong.
>>
>>5623656

God I fucking hate both major 3P Computron lookalikes on the market simply because they have too much shit carved into them to look like anything other than jagged hunks of plastic.
Not to mention both of them take on enough artistic liberty for the CW computron to be screen-accurate in comparison.
>>
>>5624121

>And the legends class companions can be a bit intrusive but are ultimately harmless.

I fucking love Shockwave. I went out and bought a full team of Decepti-limbs and Cyclonus just so I'd have someone to wield him.
>>
>>5623694

I'd be all over this if I hadn't just gotten a good deal on an Infinitor.
>>
>>5624057

Honestly Anon, CW was literally the best line of combiners we've ever had.

The aesthetics hit that G1/CHUG feel that people want. The figures themselves are solid enough in every mode except for Menasor's torso and Skylynx's fucked ratchets, one of which is a design issue and the other is QC.

Yeah, theres heavy mold re-use, but if you only grab the G1 combiners with their original loadouts, there actually isn't much mold reuse.

I doodled a little design for Oil Slick today. I know, I'm not great at drawing.
>>
>>5624134
Most of the line is pretty good. Some molds definitely could've been designed better but every line has bad apples.

My Blades doesn't have a cracked port like many other people here, but it does have worrisome stress marks on those thin walls and I had to shave down the hfg peg just to be on the safe side. My Sunstreaker has a hairline crack in its hand because the gun-handle of its weapon is far too thick for hands. Now I just have him hold the sword-handle with his other unbroken hand.

My Brawl is actually perfect though.
>>
>>5624222
>My Brawl is actually perfect though.
Considering its missing an actual midsection and all.
>>
>>5624106
Make Toys is an interesting beast, to say the least. I don't mind that they don't go for screen accuracy, really, the problem I have is they often go for completely off the goddamn wall. Their Computron is a good example of that, as is their Skorponok. With the exception of Super Robot Hot Spot who is kind of love him or hate him, the Protecobots at least don't go as far out of whack as the Technobots. Not screen accurate at all but at least less of a total mess and can fit on a CHUG shelf.
>>
>>5624222

Yeah, my Blades and Vortex both have stress marks. This is looking more and more like a design flaw that might bite people in the ass later on, but only time will tell.

And luckily, my Brawl's fine as well.
>>
>>5624222
I just wish the Helicopter mold had been fixed at some point. The hand/foot port tends to break, or end up with stress, and the combiner port is at a weird angle, so using it as a leg is a disaster unless you plan on using 2 helicopters for legs.
>>
>>5624233
I wonder if one could take the hinged port piece from the Dead End/Streetwise mold to replace the copter mold's one? Cut out space for it to fit between the legs in the various molds?

Please, I love G1 but let's be honest here, you could hardly call any of that commentary on real issues because of how watered down it all was.

Also, G1 cartoons and comics were about selling toys first and foremost, not world building and character development. See massive armies was great and all and lent credibility to that this was a massive war going on but it also meant that many characters got little to no focus and who was important depended entirely on what toys were coming out at the time. It's still fine to include all of these characters but if they're not going to properly flesh out a character, I'd prefer that they stop pretending that character is important while the toy is on shelves and drop them like they never existed as soon as the next wave comes out.

It upsets me that Brave aesthetics are probably my favorite mecha designs in general yet we get so few articulated, fully transforming toys. SoC GaoGaiGar is one of my favorite things I own, and I'd gladly buy a whole line of SoC Brave stuff. Part of me even wishes death on some part of the TF line, just so takara might do their own line of brave style toys without Hasbro's limited budget.

funny though, Takara's Unite Warriors seems to not be selling that well, while CW is selling like hotcakes. It amazes me how some things like Aerialbot limbs sell for half the price a takara superion would cost. Maybe such a thing would make Takara shy away from combining figures in the future.

This current design team gets a lot of flak, and the budget issues mean they're not quite up to the 2010 stuff; but I feel like that era's design team would've massively fucked up and given us something nowhere near as faithful as what we got in the last year. Like, yeah people complain about Alpha Bravo and Offroad replacing old team memebers, but the old design team would always say things like (paraphrasing, of course) "We can't sell too many designs with the same kind of vehicle mode in the same sizeclass" or "we can't have too many toys be the same color". Like a 2010 Superion probably would've had a helicopter AND a bomber and a commercial airliner and an F-22, with a torso that's a non-Concorde. while that isn't the worst sounding thing and could've been kinda cool, a lot of people would've preferred a proper Superion update first. Devastator probably would've been colored like his movie self. And the whole line would've probably had some odd overlapping gimmick that caused some hinderance to the sculpts.

So honestly I think CW came at a perfect time; tis team basically wants to do G1 toy updates and this line fit them well.

Well, it'd have to be made of engineering magic, for one. The Voyager is a pretty great update of both the original toy and show model, but it does have some big differences from the show model. Notably the head;the show model had a thing where the mouth line went across the whole head, with full, human-like lips; the Gen figure's head is more traditional Transformers-y. The showmodel has huge shoulderpads the gen toy hints at with green between the torso and arms. The show model also had a bigger "kilt"" (owing to the original toy's massive kibble). Most notably, the whole gen toy's torso is based more on the toy, with the show model's wide proportions. It has the detailing on the jaw and the loincloth flap of the original, while the show model had a massive, blank rhino jaw taking up the whole torso, and no loincloth.

The Hardhero statue is a good example of a perfectly on-point show Rhinox. Doing the lower jaw on an MP would probably mean a huge fake piece of kibble; maybe the chest houses a giant fake jaw.

>i picked up fortmax.

I'm not even a G1 collector and I bought him back when he was released nonetheless. Totally worth it. Titan Fort Max has a really good head sculp and better proportions and articulation, but nothing beats the city mode and 16 deployable cannons of the G1 toy. Even the spaceship mode look cooler than any of the shitty alt modes of the Titan.

I'll give the titan one thing, his space cruiser mode is close enough, the city mode is crap and a fault of the gen metroplex design.

That said it mirrors the alt city configuration gen1 fort max can infact do, which is how hasbro justifys it

It's just not going to happen. If Hasbro had planned for a Voy TW from Sentinel/Astrotrain, they would never have okayed the Thunderwing Combiner that Funpub designed. It's the same reason why the Thundertron Alpha Trion got changed to the Cheetor Alpha Trizer (because of the Titans returns Alpha Trion).

>the Thundertron Alpha Trion got changed to the Cheetor Alpha Trizer
What is this? I never paid attention to FunPub.

It doesn't effect the toy at all since its still effectively Alpha Trion visually, but fictionwise this exclusive, which was planned to be a homage to the unreleased BM Snarl as AT, was explained in the fiction as being Cheetor, way off in the future, who just adopted this form.

The idea is that sinc eHasbro was designing their own lion Alpha Trion, they asked that fP make it so this was a different character.

Oh. Was he released in like, 2014? That would be the earliest point in time where HasTak may have started working on Titans Return.

God damnit Takara

They're show exclusives like the black repaint of generations g2 optimus and armada leader megatron, they get no numbers.

Should I buy their upcoming Rhinox? I never got the mold.

Did Takara fix the loose knees last time?
