The figuarts Vader is quite a bit shorter than you'd like, especially since vader was pretty tall. The mafex is a good height for black series, etc. Both are good. I'm working to get the figuarts one now to go with my figuarts better.

If you like the look of the Figuarts, I think it's something you can overlook pretty easily. Should it be a taller, more imposing figure? Yes, definitely. Does it make Vader look completely off in relation to other Figuarts? Eh, not really.
I realize my comparison photo here ain't the best, with everyone facing a different angle, but it does accurately reflect each figure's relative height. Vader is noticeably taller than the Clone, while being just a smidgen taller than the Roger Roger (note that the droid has his legs the least spread apart out of all three figures due to its design, which does grant him a little bit of additional height). Again, Vader should be taller and larger, but I think he still looks good relative to other Figuarts.
My main issue with Vader is his cape. It looks cool (though it doesn't sit as nicely as I'd like around his neck), but to have absolutely no articulation whatsoever kinda stinks, especially with the cape molded in such a dynamic way. Bandai has done pose-able plastic capes before and since, so it's not like they don't know how to do it.
Ah well, I still like it and can recommend it to people who like the look. Doubly worth it if you can get the 1st release display stand!

It's definitely possible to get the poses you want from the Clonetrooper but it take a lot of effort getting there.

I didn't even realize the Clones were considered bad, I love mine. The legs are quite limited in their forward motion due to the design of the thigh armor, and Bandai definitely ought to have added drop-down hip joints to alleviate this. Moving the leg in other directions is fine.
Still, the sculpt and proportions look wonderful to me, and aside from the leg limitations the articulation is solid. If you like Clones I think you'd like the Figuarts.

Well, as much as I love the Black Series TIE, I do think the MSRP is too high. I paid $113 + tax for mine and at that price I can wholly recommend picking it up (it's huge and looks totally rad!), but at $170 I would advise against it (when you get right down to it, it's a fairly simplistic toy with no electronics or gimmicks). Definitely try to wait for a sale of some kind before grabbing one.

A great side benefit of the fact that the FO Trooper armor was actually designed to be worn, whereas every single armored Clone you see in the prequel movies was CG, haha.

I don't know if its been mentioned in any of the generals yet, but I was on the sideshow collectors forum and someone mentioned that you could get the clone troopers into the forward leg crouching pose by pulling down on the thigh swivel. Tried it out and it worked fine. I'm assuming that this was intended. They have that black, padded/cloth/whatever material on their hip (the actual character design. Not the figuarts itself), so it isn't like the armored plating would get shoved up into the pelvis if they designed it right.
Most figures with that drop down leg look kind of stupid anyway, if you're just looking at them dead on, and not in a pose that hides that joint a little bit.

The majority of the Figuarts SW figures that have been released so far are generic, faceless troopers, and masked bad guys.
Maul? I guess. His face looked good, but he was literally an alien guy with black and dark red facepaint and weird colored eyes with horns. So you really just had to transfer that, and not so much get it exactly to the actor's likeness.
So far people have complained about practically all of the heads/faces of the normal looking heads.

so you want the impossible then? You want highly posable but then you want no gaps, you can't have it both ways. if you want a figure of that version of cap with no hip gaps you're gonna have to get the hottoys otherwise you're just gonna have to get past them. It works if the figure has bare legs like kinnikuman because then they can add those ass cheek hip covers to fill in the gap when the hips are moved, with clothed figures there's always a shortcoming some where.

Not impossible at all, look at the new FO stormtrooper and Awakening Goku hips. Fantastic design that allows just as much range of motion and retains proper shaping. Bandai could've put in the effort of updating the new figure, but instead repaint it, slap on a new head, and call it a day.

Finally got to try this out today, and anon I could kiss ya! Huge improvement to the hips' range of motion, making crouching poses a snap. Thank you again for the public service announcement.
Enjoying the hell out of the FO Stormtrooper too. Love the gloss painted finish on him, can't wait for my second one to show up. His ankle are rather limited as another anon pointed out though, and he could have used an extra accessory (pistol!). Still, a lovely figure.
Kylo is pretty rad as well, really like how the robes were done (though the Black Series' soft goods has its charms).
