Merry Christmas anon
>>5360605
those are nice, which troopers are they?
>>5360609
Thanks, they are Black Series Imperial Shock Troopers.
>>5360125
BB-8 is so adorable
>>5360620
Yes he is, he's pretty fun too. Makes a good cat toy.
>>5360624

>That thumbs up scene
Instantly my favorite side-character of 2015.
>>5360125
i finally got devastator.
>>5361197
>>5361199
he hardly fits in my photo area. i will have to take him outside and do photos of him like that.
>>5361197
>>5361199
>>5361203
I should have just waited for this dev instead of getting the CW ughhhh
>>5361206
he was well worth the wait.
I bought Superman awhile back, but never really toyed with him much until this month
>>5361267
I found him for $70 at Bargain Hunt, otherwise I would have waited. At that price I can just get the upgrade kits or fix his arms myself.
I got Scarabus for Christmas. He's awesome.
>>5361345
Shit man 70 bucks? Thats good. U could display the hasbro one as devy and display the takara one in bot modes
Oh i also got a bunch of black series for Christmas. Poe and TR-8R, the red head droid guy, an otyer first order trooper and i got some SHF act 4 stands that i desperately needed.
>>5361357
>>5361360
what's your favorite lens to use /toy/?
>>5361381
back when I used to take pics all the time, the canon 50mm/1.4 was my go to.
>>5360624
That is true. My cat goes crazy over that little guy
>>5361203
Ooh! Take him to a construction site!
>>5361381
camera lens is my all time fav.
>>5361357
red head droid guy?
I just use the canon 18-55mm lense that came with my t3i
>>5361506
This desu
>>5361537
I will post pics of him later. They were only in the movie for like 10 seconds.

I got a dslr for Christmas, I'm just starting to toy with it and I'm loving the results
>>5363042
I really like this one of Cyborg Ninja
>>5362880
Wait till the SJWs find out that the Finn doll is from ''the black series''. Why must Disney segregate toys by race!!!???
Also, where are all the Rey action figures!!!??

My only present, but it's a damn good one.
>>5363321
wait. does this even count as toy photography?
>>5363330
Uh, I dunno? It's a photo of an expensive toy for adults.
But by that logic I guess dragon dildoes would count...

Figuarts gold frieza, God goku, warrior awakening goku, new nes Jason, the new 1/6th qmx Malcolm Reynolds figure and a bunch of 2.5" WoN figures.
All bought for myself by myself.
>>5365492

>>5365722

More than likely Figuarts Kylo
>>5365732
He's out? I thought he wasn't supposed to be out until January/February?
>>5365876
I haven't opened mine yet, but he and the stormtrooper came out the same weekend the movie did.
Found today in the wild. Very impressed with this figure, he is going to be awesome for outdoor photo shoots! I was happy to pay the $95, only because I got a decent bonus from work this Christmas.
>>5365910
>>5365910
I love this figures and I was considering in bite a bullet and buy a Dart Vader but I fear getting a bootleg most of the sellers are from Hong Kong
>>5365956
There are reputable online vendors like amiami that still have them in stock. A bootleg of these would not be pretty..

Any tips for someone who's never done photography before?
>>5366319
>>5366323
If it's indoors, it's about lighting, lighting, and more lighting. When you think you have enough, get another lamp.
>>5366323
>Any tips for someone who's never done photography before?
Well for starters, you need to have a camera. It's pretty much essential. :^)
Moving on, it helps to have a good sense of composition, like in art.
Things not to do:
*post uncropped, original size images
*post images that are out of focus
*use filters before knowing how to shoot properly
*go crazy with effects and post processing before knowing how to shoot properly
*use a phone camera
Besides all that, try using google to search for "Macro photography guide"
>>5366323
Work with what you got, and learn how to use it.
Lighting is pretty much the most important part of any visual medium, so make sure you learn how lighting works, and make sure you have enough light sources. A light box can take you pretty far, especially when you start experimenting with new backgrounds.
>>5366333
I don't agree with everything here, though. You can do just fine with a phone if you apply yourself. I've used a phone camera and got out some really nice shots. Still, nothing can trump an actual camera, but if you can't afford it, hey, as long as it's clear, you're golden. Though, do resize your images. It's extremely helpful for sharing since giant sizes can make it a bitch for people with bad internet or small monitors. I generally divide the resolution by 4 or 2, but mess around and see what works.
>>5366325
>>5366319
>>5366317
Wow, i barely remember that guy. From one of the people that invade Han? I was hoping you were talking about one of the bounty hunter dudes, the red desperado cowboy dude that Finn meets.
>>5366365
>the red desperado cowboy dude that Finn meets.
That's Sidon Ithano aka Red Raider aka Crimson Corsair and yeah his design is awesome, his backstory seems pretty cool too.
>>5366371
Coolest design in the whole movie to me. Really hopes he gets a figuarts or something. Hell, worse comes to worse, he'll be my first black series.
>>5366365
Yeah one of the dudes that invaded hans ship had like 4 of those droids with him. There were so many cool deaigns in the movie that will probably not get toys.
>>5366389
>>5366392
im starting to like long haul alot.
>>5361675
What transformer is that on the right, and where can I get one?
>>5363281
Literally every store I've been to, I've never seen anything but Finn or Chewie.
>>5366376
It's Star Wars, they'll all get toys.
>>5367467
That lightsaber looks like a baby bazooka
>>5367473
It is.

Not really. The $30 Disney Store one has a better flicker effect, but this one's still nicer over all.

Who're the ladies on the left & middle?
>>5367498
Left to right:
Funko Legacy Evolve Maggie
Funko Legacy Firefly Zoe
WWE Kaitlyn
Each with various extras tacked on to make them more star wars-y (or, in Kaitlyn's case, give her any kind of wrist articulation).
>>5367471
There is still no articulated 4-Lom figure.
>>5367487
THANKS Just added to my order!

>>5367848
>>5367856
>>5366392
Great shot, looks like real people from the thumbnail.
This reminds me, in the Tsuburaya set thread it was mentioned that using a lower angle and keeping the ground out of the shot can make miniatures look huge. Would love to see that applied here.
>>5367967
Thanks, yeah forced perspective is neat. I would like to try it.
>>5367467
is that supposed to be jedi rihanna
>>5363042
that looks cool
>>5368303
It's a Movie Realization figure, they're not buildable kits. They're from Bandai/Tamashii Nations and they're basically better-made SHFs.
>>5368306
bigger than shf?
>>5365806
How does one take pictures like these?
>>5368924
What do you mean? Fully extend the arm and place the camera near the handl
>>5368924
It's all down to camera placement. This one was done with a phone, but a real camera is easier because you can zoom in from a distance to get the same effect.
>>5369083
I guess I should get that DLSR camera I've been looking into getting. It's very difficult with a smartphone at least for me.
>>5369093
You just have to get clever and patient. My phone is big as fuck, but if you play around with the placement of the arms, you can get it looking believable.
>>5369083
but she's called femme you dumb shit.
>>5369695
Well yeah, but the suit also has Siren for the name, and the joke doesn't work if I called her Femme, you fag ass.
>>5368912
Size-wise? No they're still 1/12th or 6-inch scale.
>>5369737
Are they the same size as the SHF Troopers?
>>5369759
They're not manlets if that's what you're asking. They're a bit taller and stockier with the armor.
>>5369689
Aw. Then they should've been used as his personal guards like Palpatine had Imperial Guards
Kylo was a Christmas present to myself
>>5363321
'A lotta people got those'
>>5370122
Nice. I lost the saber for mine so I gave him a naginata.
>>5370144
That actually fits pretty fell
>>5370148
Well*
>>5370148
Indeed, I'm rather fond of Abbot Ren. The naginata makes him much more noble and imposing looking.
>>5370144
How did you lose it? It only came out like a couple weeks ago.
>>5370144
Give him a katana of some sort instead, so he looks like a Shadow of Yharnam!
Also just got this guy in a couple days after Christmas. Swapped out the plastic for the black series cloak and now he's probably the best figure of 2015
>>5372359
how much did the SHF run ya? i kinda want one.
>>5372408
Msrp was around 45, but you're not gonna be able to find one under 65 USD now, unless you set up a figinstock alert and catch one.
>>5372415
damn it.
>>5372359
damn the Figuarts looks good with the Black Series robe and hood.
>>5372359
Literal school shooter.
>>5372805
The Kylo in the first pic is the SH Figuarts, wearing the robe of the 6" Black series Kylo.
The Kylo in the other two pics is the straight-up 6" Black series.
The Clone Trooper is the 6" Black series, and the droid is the Figuarts.
>>5372359
How'd you go about changing the cloak? The only thing I don't like about the shf is the plastic cloak
>>5373815
Slip the plastic shoulder drape on the BS Kylo over his head then snake the cloak up through his belt (you WILL struggle), then just slip it upward with his hands up - the cloak stretches a little bit, but don't leave it stretched for too long. Then you just put it over the SHF Kylo since he comes apart at the waist. Just be careful and use heat or something when you pull him apart.
You can use heat on the BS Kylo to stretch his belt and make it a little easier putting it through
>>5373929
or just cut off the belt and glue it on the body, making a knight of ren.
I like him with a katana though
>>5374598
What katana is that?
>>5374604
special nippon folded 1000 times
>>5374604
Modeling Support Goods katana set, from Kotobukiya
I wish there were figures of Star Wars Battlefront II ships

>>5375046
>>5372672
The Polynians are great
>>5365492
What Yoda is that?
>>5373929
Do you think you could use some outside fabric to achieve the same effect? That or to improve the taken fabric from the BS?
Went to the mountains yesterday. Didn't get to go where I wanted to shoot, but I took this and one other pic.
>>5375473
dude thats sick. im jelly of states that have these huge mountains. ohio has nothing like that.
>>5375596
Thanks, yeah Big Bear and Mt. Baldy out here in Cali are really nice during this time of year.
Gunna re-edit this one, I feel the colors ended up overly-done.
I made a Cybertron backdrop today. Shows up pretty well in pictures.
>>5375640
in my opinion it does not need edited.
1:21 scale Hatsune Miku.
I saw for the first time the figure of that size.

I got a little bowling set for christmas.

>>5379542
Nice
I got a photo light box for Christmas and I am pretty excited to photograph my collection. This is my first time setting up a backdrop for a photo. What do you think? Is the background too busy? What do you recommend using for a backdrop in a light box?
>>5379970
>>5379974
>>5379970
what did you get? I've been looking at getting one from amazon.
>>5379970
>Is the background too busy?
yeah. I'd say just use a solid color bg.
>>5379970
Nah, it looks good. It's properly blurred so there's a clear distinction between fg and bg, so it's not clashing.
>>5380089
I mostly do solid color backgrounds but desu I really like patterns like that. Lightbox stuff can get stale quick and it's nice to have something else going on.
>>5379990
Yep that's the one. I use to have a lot of trouble with consistent lighting and the light box was the easiest solution.
>>5380089
I tried using solid black fabric or paper but it looked off (as shown in the attached photo). I'm not sure what I should use for a solid black backdrop.
>>5380140
Thanks. I'm glad the blurred background was effective.
>>5380235
>I'm not sure what I should use for a solid black backdrop.
I haven't gotten around to it myself, but I think the most common method is a piece of acrylic plastic for the ground and fabric for the background
>>5380235
what lights are you using?
>>5380257
Two clamp lights with EG Reveal 100-Watt Incandescent A19 Reveal Clear Light Bulbs. I went into Home Depot and asked for natural light light bulbs; that's that they recommended.
finally got my Christmas buy in.
>>5380700
>>5380235
>>5379975
>>5379970
>>5379974
It's a nice backdrop but I think it's a bit too close. The blur certainly helps but the shallow focus on the figures themselves makes it a little difficult to make out the details.
I also had that lightbox a while back and honestly, you're better off making your own set-up. It ended up being far too small and really makes you have to compact your pictures together. What I did was cut up an old white shirt and taped the cloth over my lamps to act as diffusers which removes the need for the box itself. Afterwards I just got whatever backdrop I was planning to use and propped it up.
By getting rid of the box it gives you much more freedom to take your pictures. It also helps to have bright lightbulbs (I used three 4-5k lumen ones for my lamps)
Pic related was my setup (cluttered because I was just showing the stuff I normally use.
>>5381515
This extra room lets you move the backdrop further back and keeps the focus on the figure rather than drawing your eyes to the patterns behind it. But good lighting is key when taking your pictures.

Can never seem to get those pure color backgrounds without washing out the color or having it over brightened. I don't mind a bit of the gradient (if that's the right term) look however. Just always looking to make my poo poo photos less poo looking.
