Hello SAS general! I've been working my way through the JoJo anime, and now I feel a mighty need for plastic representations of those sexy bastards. I have zero experience with Medicos, but I gather that they're more fragile than figuarts. So tell me, what's solid and what will crumble in my ham hands? I'm currently up to ep 26 of stardust crusaders, so that's the group I'm currently eyeing.
So the SAS Tsukiyama (Tokyo Ghoul) seems to have been changed a little. The kagune is now a bit smaller, the waist cut looks a bit less jarring, and he looks less broad/wide.

Old Joseph's original release has some bad legs that can break. Try to get your hands on the reissue since it fixes that and adds a few details on Hermit Purple.
If you want punch effects then Dio Black ver. is up your alley but he has a bad batch of poor QC with stuff like legs snapping easily or rough paintwork. You can get lucky on grabbing a good one but you expect the worst when you get him out the box and for posing. Dio has other color ways also and a "Awakened ver." at the end of Part 3.
Also I hear some odd coloring issues on Abdul or Avdol for the reissue but that mostly slipped my mind.
Jotaro is a little rougher to pose since his sculpt will limit things but he's a doable SAS and you got 3 color choices to choose from with one packing green punch effects. Try to get the 1.5 version of regular Jotaro since he packs a soundplate versus the original 1st.
Star Platinum is a solid SAS but after messing around with Star Platinum Part IV it's hard to go back given his better articulation. You got 3 options with SP2nd being the most expensive option hitting an upwards of 9k but it's possible to find a 6k tag. He packs a "OraOraOra" soundplate. Posed him and SPIV a lot and rarely I feel any breakage will happen.
The World has 3 variations and for some reason the 2nd release is vastly cheaper than SP2nd since they both offer large soundplates. The 1st release of The World has the eye issue since some had an eye painted off point. Another thing I noticed from a few anon's is the extended peg may have issues connected to his back with the airtanks attached so shave or sand it down to get a proper fit. Another way was layering with tape if it's too small and the peg hole is larger.
Don't have the rest but generally that's my experience with the Stardust line. I do reccomend to move on to the manga later seeing each part gets longer and you would love the later offerings in this line.

Super Action Statues are actually not bad at all. There are just a few bad eggs, like Black Dio, which are known for their QC issues (most chance of being bad, but not 100%; you can get a good one, technically)
If I were to suggest a SAS, I'd say part 2 Joseph is pretty sweet. Comes with nice accessories, has nice articulation and looks great, although his colour scheme may be a bit odd.

Agreed. The kagune's new size is actually more accurate as well. I hope he comes with the "knife" version of his kagune as well, which would fit being the size the old regular kagune was.
Still no idea how they'll do the leg articulation. Will the lower part of the suit be a softer material, because if it's a hard plastic, unless they give him a SHFiguarts like system of pulling the legs out, the leg articulation will be impeded quite a bit.

Thanks for the info guys. Now that you bring up reissues, say I'm searching on mandy, is there a way to tell if the version I'm looking at of said figure is the reissue? I noticed that some of the releases include (Hirohiko Araki Specified Color) in the title. Is this a dead giveaway that it's a reissue? Also, if I have this correct, releases that have 'Second' added to their name means it's the OVA coloring.
Currently I have Jonathan incoming, so I'm hyped for that. Eventually I want to at least complete parts one and two. Part three Joseph was definitely top of my list until I saw that break in the last thread, followed by Polnareff and Silver Chariot. I'll just have to settle for silver chariot for now since Polnareff seems to have suffered a lot from being released so early in the line.

The main telltale sign of reissues is the box is glossy. That's it. Mandy's translations are pretty nutty.
2nd/3rd just means a different colorway. Araki goes through so many colorways that there are basically no canon colors. The "Hirohiko Araki Specified Color" just means he chose the colors for the figure. I'm pretty sure almost all of them have that.
Additionally, WF = WonderFest exclusives, which, as it sounds, are sold only at WonderFest and usually in limited numbers. This is where they get the clear variant/swarovski versions, too.

The manga, not the anime. The anime is pretty embarrassing as far as adaptations go.
The manga art style is not really good at the start, but it changes quite drastically. The story also starts a bit slow, but when it picks up, it really picks up.
I'd say give it a try. It's a great manga, but there's always the chance that it's just not your thing.

You just search Mandarake and click the English option for the international site. Use the OP's keywords (超像可動) since Manda searches off the Japanese characters rather than the English translation for the listings.
I've given the explanation a ton but Mandarake is largely 2nd hand items sold from various storefronts in Japan. Quality will vary but collectors are super anal and the stores will deduct the cost if even a bump on the box is there and even more of there's an apparent mark or tobacco smell on the figure.
Usually there's a waiting period for them to check the stock but SAHRA calculates the costs off the bat versus the other fronts.
If you're in the UK you should probably anticipate customs going into your costs for a figure so mind that.
Also it seems Tremendo is tackling a neat custom for Johnathan from one of his other outfits from the Manga.

Sorry but that's the current one out right now. SAS's usually have a 2nd and even a 3rd release but most of the time it's recolors of the current sculpt of the character with added items. Only case of outfit variants I remember is Rohan and Jotaro for the Part 4 releases.
I'm in the US so usually if a package somehow lands in customs it's just a delay on time and no costs(in my experience since I shop a ton on Mandarake)

How well do these scale with the average Revoltech? I love both FotNS and JJBA and I already have the FotNS Revoltechs and was wondering about these. Also, is there a chance of getting different outfit variations for certain characters in this line? I haven't researched it thoroughly but the Joseph one in particular has him in what I personally thought was the least cool of his outfits. Sorry if these questions are a bother to anyone.

Depends. Part 3 SAS are older than, say, part 2 ones and part 1 ones, and for that reason, Jotaro is smaller than Joseph (part 2, not 3) and Joseph is smaller than Jonathan.
In general, though, they all fall in the same basic range, which is the 6 inch or 1:12 range, which should be just fine for your Revoltech or potential Figma/SH Figuarts.

Well, the FotNS revoltechs are a little on the small side of 1:12, so they might work well enough with the smaller ones. I'm a little more wary of Joseph and Jonathan now though, which is a shame since they're my favorite two. It'd be a little odd to see them around Raoh's height rather than Kenshiro's, if the height difference is as far as I'm guessing from your post. I'd have probably got a few anyway, but it helps to know where I'd want to put them in relation.

Depends who you aim for. I'm touching on nearly 40 so far with the protags+stands/villians+stands combo with one side character+stand from each part. Also adding the general 2nd/3rd/WF releases. Any more characters from each part or if I stick to the user+stand combo then the price will really skyrocket.
If you can wait it out and just pick out ones you will stick to and not buy from cons or overpriced Ebay/Amazon sellers then it isn't nearly as bad. And if anything, general toy space is something you should be watching for if you really get serious on collecting these things.

I'm basically going for characters I like. I'm on volume 4 of Vento and luckily I have yet to find a character I'd want a figure of.

Part 1- 2 figures that have been recently released so the isn't stupid high.
Part 2- 7 figures. The Pillar Men and Wonfes Joseph may be harder to find.
Part 3- 24 figures. The most expensive is Star Platinum 1st, everything else is different colors that are reasonably priced. Be careful with Dio Black Ver, he is a QC nightmare.
Part 4- 18 figures. Probably the hardest to collect, unless you only like Rohan. Things might change since the anime was announced. Josuke and Crazy Diamond are being re-released. Most expensive is Killer Queen 3rd.
Part 5- 23 figures. Probably the easiest. Most expensive is Giorno Wonfes. Giorno 1st may be the hardest to find.
Part 6- 9 figures. Also easy, arguably easier because of less figures. Ermes is kinda uncommon but not expensive. Most expensive is Jolyne Wonfes but she might drop.
Part 7- None
Part 8- Gappy and Soft & Wet. The cheapest SAS in terms of individual figures.
All of this was taken from the Jojo wikia and the top of my head so some stuff I left out like the Super Expensive Exclusive stuff like the Clear Versions and so on. Feel free to correct any mistakes.

They covered Jotaro, Josuke, and Crazy Diamond, Kira 1st, and Killer Queen 1st recently.
All they have to refer to is Okuyasu, The Hand, Koichi, Echoes Acts, Rohan, and Star Platinum Part IV for reissue status. I highly doubt they would reissue the more sought after color ways like KQ2nd or Kira 2nd so there's that.

That's really odd, releasing him before the protag. Also kinda sad that their release schedule basically means their usual one-per-month, regardless of series, meaning we will have to be a little more patient for future Jojo SAS. Had they been releasing exclusively Jojo characters, we could have seen Part 7 characters as early as Q1/2 2016, but at this rate it'll probably be late 2016 before we see any.

Looks great aside from the torso cut, which, if the bottom part of the suit isn't a soft material, will still be kind of useless.
But he looks good. Looks accurate. Kinda disappointed he comes with only one type of kagune. Had hoped he would have come with his buffed up kagune.
I'm more hyped for Kaneki, but with me intending to buy anything SAS Tokyo Ghoul related with the same severity most people here collect JoJo SAS, he's definitely one I'll enjoy adding to my collection.
Kaneki is definitely more hype a release for me, though.
Also, as expected, Tsukiyama's release date was changed. It was January 2016 at first.

As an addendum: something very blatantly sucks here: I get the mask addition, and I'm grateful for it, but even more so than an extra kagune, I wish it would've come with an extra head with the kakugan (black sclera, red irises) activated.
If only it was the regular head with differently painted eyes.
It will differently look off having him use his kagune without the mask, as using the kagune immediately activates the kakugan for ghouls.
This, like Kaneki, is one of those figures that, more so than having an alternate head, would have greatly benefited from having that otherwise gimmicky movable eye-thing. That way, you could have interchanged between human and ghoul eyes.

To be honest...I am sorta pissed off about it because Tsukiyama doesn't even make a good articulated figure. His design just doesn't work with articulation and looks ugly. Kaneki probably won't be as bad though. The Ajin looked neat and Shinichi came out ok.
I'd just rather have more Jojo stuff. I know they are looking toward the future because there is only so many Jojo figures that'd actually sell well enough to justify tooling for an action figure. I just don't want to be an old man before they reach stuff I want.

Disagree. Fundamentally, SAS is pretty okay for Tokyo Ghoul. The only thing is that, if SAS wasn't so traditionalist about their engineering, they could have greatly improved it.
Doing something like the interchangeable eye gimmick, or having the mask be a part that can be pegged in if you take off the front hairpart would've been much better.
Still, I'm glad Medicos has Tokyo Ghoul rather than GoodSmile. I like their general sculpting style much more for Tokyo Ghoul. Figma is just too moe. I can't imagine them pegging characters like Takizawa or Yoshimura, which I hope will become figures as well.
It's also disconcerting that they've gone with the anime designs, both for Tsukiyama's suit and for Kaneki's kagune. The suit isn't that atrocious, but Kaneki's anime kagune is the worst design there exists. Would've much preferred the Shachi fight kagune.
Still hoping most for kakuja Kaneki and Eto getting a figure.

It's how they deal with colorways for releases. The desirable ones are often 2nd, 3rd, or WF releases(though Jolyne is a letdown since use she has better color choices from Araki artworks)
Just lube up and hope for a solid deal on 2nd hand sites and sometimes Ebay(some guy sold his WF Gio for about $90

Funnily with Giorno his WF colors are usually best paired with 1st release Gold Experience and Gold Experience Requiem and Giorno 1st is paired often with WF Gold Experience and WF Gold Experience Requiem.

MFC is a bit odd to navigate but you should see the link to the related figure on the photo and you should land on the figures info page. From there you can check out the user gallery and pick out photos from there granted that's from various users. Check your browser if some pages aren't loading right.

By copyright sticker, they're referring to those foil stickers you typically find on licensed products; they let you know that said product was licensed and distributed under supervision of the license holder. No sticker possibly means that it's a knock-off. Though, I am new to JoJo and not yet aware of the possible KO's.

If you're talking SAS, unlikely; especially on side characters like that. Part 2 only got anime-colored variants of already existing figures and part 3 got mostly vanilla re-releases with a few new colorways thrown in.
At best, you're probably looking at standard color part 4 re-releases and a few new colorways.

You're going for GER's most iconic pose, right? Rotate his lower torso slightly to the left so it's at an angle to Giorno. Right now, he's too much in profile.
Rotate the neck and tilt the head down slightly; you may need to take it just a little off the balljoint to keep line of sight with where Giorno's looking and still have it at an angle. Currently, the way his head is twisted makes him look all alert, like he got caught in headlights.
His left hand should be bent down, not straight with his arm. Right arm should actually be straight, but if you're working with just one stand then go ahead and use it to hold onto the other figures for balance if you need to.

Default: Very limited in movement, comes with a ton of stuff and Heaven's Door to compensate. HD is as flexible as Echoes 2 and honestly pretty boring.
Pink: Pink.
Highway Star: More flexible, comes with cool Highway Star patches and smugger alt head.
HS Black: Special version that looks the best,
comes with a glow in the dark version HD plate, I think. The most expensive, but sexiest.
Depends on which you want, I'd say HS Black if you like Rohan and have the cash. HD is very bland.

So, I need a bit of help. I got my first SAS from HLJ, being Magician's Red. I liked the look and always wanted to pick up an SAS to give it a go. To be honest I'm quite disappointed. The legs are giving me a hard time as the ball is awkwardly done and hits stops at times. But anyways, the main issue is the shoulders. One arm can raise higher than the other, which is odd, but are they really supposed to be spinning at such an angle that facing the arms outwards then pushing them to the side (having a hard time explaining, but imagine a wide hug) isn't even possible? I've been messing around with the shoulders but they seem to turn at a really awkward angle which seems to heavily hinder the arms. Am I horribly wrong or is this just how they are?

I don't have any other SAS to compare to but I like him. I'm not that great at posing but he has double jointed knees and elbows. His shoulders are a touch limited but his neck and torso are really well articulated. His head pops off really easily but it doesn't take much to put it back on. The fact that he can cross his legs is pretty cool. He comes with a lot of different hands that would make fighting poses work.
Maybe I'll look up a reference and take a better photo.
