It sort of depends on what counts as a grail. There's plenty of stuff that's 3-4 times it's original price, but still isn't expensive or rare enough to be considered a grail. I'd love to pick up a set of robot damashii EVAs, for instance, but they're in that weird area where they're not THAT expensive but still expensive enough that they wouldn't be worth it.
Closest thing I've got my eye on is MP-10, but he's getting a reasonable reissue so that'll take care of itself soon enough.

As for me, well...hmm. I don't think I have any anymore. All of my actual hard-to-find ones have been found and bought. Now I just have a list of stuff that is out of reach for financial reasons. Same here. Do This Pose and Best ROM threads always give me the hankering to get my hands on one, and I've never even seen Evangelion. Hopefully they'll reissue or at least release another remold for whatever the franchise is currently doing because I've read nothing but great things about their posability.

My current holy grail is this Digimental of Miracles toy. I have Vmon, Hawkmon and Armadillomon from that line. I bought a Hawkmon last year and I never thought I'd be able to find them all but I've been lucky the last few months. I only saw the Digimental of Miracles on Mandarake once for 5000 yen and never again. I regret not buying it so much.

I actually was curious about this once and did a lot of research regarding this trope. I found pretty much that except for a few recent western film examples, it is strictly a eastern only thing.
I basically came to a little pet theory, the japanese got the idea of sword being stored in shields because everytime they saw them hung up in some western home, they were set up like a coat of arms. Shield in front with swords crossed behind it. The japanese not familiar with western sense of decorating one's home with weaponry simply assumed that the shield is how westerners stored swords.
sure it is a far fetched theory, but it is amusing.
