The enchantress' hand falls away from your shoulder, a fact for which you're immensely grateful. Ever since you watched her incapacitate a Vatis with barely any effort at all on her part, you must admit you've been feeling a degree of wariness regarding her touch. Slowly she stalks forward, stepping up to the pedestal upon which her crown sits and delicately running an emaciated hand across its golden surface. “I have labored for what in truth feels the majority of my undoubtedly long life, and now I find myself now so close to the culmination of my hard work that I can't but hardly wait.”
She turns her head towards you, smiling genuinely and without malice. “Were it not for the fact that the device is occupied, I would have already subdued you for my purposes. You appear to be a sandesta of remarkable skill, considering your age. No doubt your divine spark would have made a fine addition to my collection.” A portion of the wall melts away, revealing yet another hallway beyond. You think you might be able to faintly make out the sound of screaming, but you're not sure. “Would you like a tour of my facilities? You know, it's so rare that I get to discuss these things with a peer.”
The air in the room seems progressively harder to breath, the weight upon your shoulders bearing down heavier with each passing second. It wills you to kneel, to bow before a force far beyond your comprehension and accept your fate as its servant. You need only channel a touch of Metal magic to stave off the desperate cries for your obedience, but nonetheless you have little desire to stay here any longer than you must. Nor do you particular want a detailed explanation of how it is she tortures the souls out of her victims, though you admit a purely academic curiosity.

No, more than anything you want to drive your dagger through her eye, to see it rip through flesh and shatter bone. To put an end to this woman before she can further endanger either you or society. However, part of you questions whether these thoughts are your own, or if perhaps the same forces which urge you to submit drive you towards violence.

You resist the urge to breathe a sigh of relief as the wall reforms, once again stifling the sounds of screaming. You step aside to allow her passage and follow behind her as she leads you through the same hallway you passed through previously, into the throne room. With each step away from that horrid crown the burden upon your shoulders grows lighter, your thoughts clearer, and your desire for violence lesser.
She leads you through the palace and out onto her island in the sea of fog. Above the sky vanishes into indistinguishable white, and below sinks into impenetrable black. She stops finally at the top of the grand staircase which wraps its way endlessly around the immense stone pillar upon which her palace sits. Turning to you, she smiles pleasantly. “You'll find your way out just down these steps, though you'll wish to avoid my pets. Do come back and visit sometime soon, it's so rare anyone stumbles upon my little palace here.”

Passive emotions like depression and contentment are connected with the inverse, a repression of the soul.”
“I haven't yet been able to ascertain whether these phenomenon are the cause of emotions, or if emotions are the cause of the inflammation, but either way during moments of rage or excitement we are more readily able to affect the world around us. Thus whenever I seek to assert my dominance over reality I focus first upon memories of betrayal and violence. These offer me the most potent benefit. For you it may be different.”
Well it wasn't exactly what you were hoping for, you were hoping for runes, but it may prove useful nonetheless. Emotions, a condition of the mind, being in some way connected to the nature of the soul makes sense considering the mind results form the weight one's soul exerts upon reality. You'll need to attempt to excite your emotions next time you bother to enchant something.
You bow low. “My thanks, and I wish you the best of luck with your various projects. Perhaps once I have more time to spare we'll be able to complete our tour of the grounds.” You really hope this woman can't pick up on your thoughts, because if she can she'll know you're lying through your teeth.

She dismisses you with a gesture, and you begin your long descent. It isn't long before you need to manifest a ball of light over your shoulder just to prevent yourself from walking off the edge of staircase, and the deeper you venture into the fog the smaller the area illuminated by your spell seems to grow. Even just channeling vys to maintain the spell grows more taxing, as though this place resist your efforts to shift it to your will.

Structures begin to emerge out of the fog, their appearance strange and fleshy. One even seems to be bleeding, though you cannot be certain that your eyes aren't simply playing tricks on you. When you pause your descent to try and ascertain just what it is they're made of and notice, much to your concern, that the echo of your footsteps against the stone stairs does not stop when you do. It seems you're being followed.
Channeling vys, you urge the light hovering above your shoulder to grow brighter. Your efforts reveal on the stairs above you a corpse, or what was likely once a corpse. Skin is stretched taught across a muscular frame, its long, sharp teeth gleaming dimly in the light. The creature has no ears and where its eyes ought to be it has only empty sockets covered by a thin film of skin. Where its nose ought to be there is a hole, and upon its brow is carved a complex runic array you cannot even begin to guess the purpose of.
Despite its threatening appearance, the creature does not seem hostile. It just stands upon the steps, staring at you with its face locked in a rictus grin.

There's a momentary standoff as you and the creature stare at one another. You try moving the ball of light a little closer to the creature, but it has no reaction. It's similarly nonplussed by your stepping closer to inspect it. In the end you decide that whatever the creature is, it doesn't seem hostile so you have little reason to waste vys attacking it.
You resume your descent, though at a markedly faster pace than previously. The creature continues to follow behind you, its movements surprisingly fluid and graceful considering its appearance. After another few minutes of walking you pass another creature similar to the one following you standing in the middle of the stairs, though this one is markedly more inhuman than the other. Instead of a mouth it seems to possess odd, muscular protrusions which connect to its cheeks.
Stepping around the creature draws its attention, its empty sockets boring into you while you try to navigate around it, but once your past it resumes staring out into the blackness that fills the lower reaches of this place. However, the creature that's been following you burst into sudden motion, leaping upon the other, mutated creature and sinking its teeth into its shoulder. Black blood oozes from the creature's wounds as it's torn apart, but it makes no attempt to fight back.
Deciding not to interfere, you carry on. Hopefully you'll be able to escape your stalker now that it's occupied eating its kin. At the center, instead of a gleaming opal housed atop a thin pillar of stone, there is simply a runic array carved upon the floor. The relief you feel at the prospect of finally leaving this place is immeasurable.
